Okay, so maybe the Mad Dog's ability to carry 6 SRM-6s, or 6 SSRM-6s, is a scary proposition, I'll give you that...

But how frightening are these newest Clan arrivals?

Judging by the artwork (and if the hitboxes match the art), 4 of the 5 mechs are giant walking center torsos... Seriously! If anyone thought the Dragon's giant CT was a problem, look at the Mad Dog! The side torsos are roughly 2/5 the size of the CT. The Hellbringer (oh no! Heavy Mech ECM! NERF IT!!! PTW!!! WhineWhineComplain!) has side and CTs just as bad as the dragon, and rear torsos that are just as bad as he Summoner (which is like hitting the front torsos of an Awesome). The Myst Linx and the Ice Ferret suffer from side torsos that are 1/2 the size of the CTs as well.

Add the weapons options on the Myst Linx and the Ice Ferret to the CT sizes, and these two become the most undergunned, easily hit, and slowest Light and Medium mechs on the battlefield. Yes, the Mad Dog is still scary, but the idea of the "SplatDog" will be tough to implement if an Alpha from just about any Heavy or Assault I.S. mech could core it instantly (the I.S. still rules on weapons convergence and pinpoint damage), so I'd still expect to see it used at range instead of up close.

The Gargoyle, on the other hand, has a bit of promise. It may be faster than a stock Victor, and it may have a somewhat larger weapons load, but its at a cost. Losing an arm on this mini-Atlas effectively cuts it's capabilities in half, as all it's weapons are arm mounted. The Gargoyle also lacks lower arm actuators, so the torso MUST be turned into the enemy to bring the weapons to bear. The max armor is just a tad more than a Timberwolf, and any good Assault pilot with another friendly mech covering their rear, could frontload 99% of their armor, making them almost as effective at soaking up damage as an Atlas. Personally, I think the Gargoyle will be the real headache (when commanded by good pilots) out of this next wave.

Overall, these 5 seem to be much more "balanced" than the previous Clan pack, and I think pilots fighting both against and in them, will find them a bit more fun than anything else has been for quite a while.

You say balanced, I say bad.

We should be getting two potentially good mechs, with the current hardpoints and tonnage available. Loki and Vulture.

Fenris has potential, but the B left arm would make it much better. Unknown if we get that. 9 tons of pod space is very low.

Koshi has a hardwired AP and 6.5 tons of pod space.

Gargoyle is limited. It will be able to pack limited firepower, and 16 hardwired heatsinks should keep it running acceptably. UAC10 and a battery of ERMLs should be acceptable. It lacks missile options, which is bad considering the pod space.

That and with 2 new shiny that can have ECM...one of them the first heavy with ECM.

Gonna be Mech Ninja Online

If PGI gives probes a nice buff/greater utility role, maybe even a soft counter to ECM, things may get interesting in a good way.

If not, well, i see people selling their LRMs.

Bullish seismic and TAG
Bearish LRM

I am an uneducated armchair economist after all...

I'd have to disagree. Everything about the Mad Dog indicates that NOT hitting the Center Torso will be a challenge. That means that the Mad Dog will be regulated the same way the Catapult was: Stay at the rear until your LRMs are gone, before you rush in with lasers. The CT is so large, it will be easier to pick apart than any other mech's CT in the game. The arms are tiny in comparison, which wont block weapons fire from the side, and the side torsos are, again, less than half the size of the CT. The CT is like a Dragon's with breast implants! Its HUGE! The Hellbringer, Mist Lynx, and Ice Ferret all suffer from overly large CTs. Unless PGI completely borks hitboxes, 4 of the 5 new mechs are gonna be CT-hit magnets.

Those damned, dirty P2W Adders, Summoners, Kit Foxes, and Novas. Now Men O' War and (potentially) Mist Lynxes, too!

Gods I am getting so sick of this "clanz are p2w!!" They are not, it's more like "pay to use early".

Not one clan mech in waves 1 or 2 are going to be locked behind a paywall for ever. They will all be out for C-bills by early next year. The only mechs that are locked behind a pay wall are the Hero mechs, and no-one is screaming pay to win against those.

So put your big boy pants on and play the game and wait or pony up the $ to use them early, just stop bitching p2w on something that is not p2w.
