Eh... this seems like a huge buzzkill for something that's so funny and so difficult to maintain. I've only ever done this accidentally while trying to jump jet over a teammate, but it was hilarious to see a highlander riding a stalker around for a short time. I'd love to see aerial knockdowns and DFA implemented again, but I don't think that punishing players for having fun in a video game is really something that we as a community should be doing. This tactic is so rare that I haven't seen it in a game since the stat reset.

Spoiler

It's perfectly fine in private matches, do whatever you want there. In standard queue's however it is an exploit that can be used to convey definite advantages. The amusement factor or the difficulty in accomplishing it are immaterial to this point.

Wouldn't have been so bad but it was a Direwolf sitting on top of a Timby........imagine that coming at you at 80kph or so........might think that confers an advantage of sorts.

HAHAHAHAHA i just had the funniest image of that, thats just so ****** funny.

Mega mech is more of a joke, and hard to do due to the lag that happens for the upper part. If the lower half of mega mech is blown up the upper half can be frozen in the air. Its a very dangerous tactic used in test servers a few times its seen in combat.

Ya know, Ive seen this before. I dont know how they did it but, I did see an atlas on top of a Spider once in the valley map with all the garbage. All i remember was this atlas head moving like 140 mph and was flying through the air we were like WTF... then we saw him on top of a spider and it was seriously flying with the atlas on its back. How is this even possible and how do u even do it? We were all laughing and had no clue how it happened but it made for a fun match.

most of the time the only way you can win a match is if you have more pre made players on your team. I have lost many matches playing in just groups of 2 or 3 and queueing. if you want to complain about an exploit how about all the 12 man pre-made's. but here is OP complaining about some people screwing around with stacking mechs. to be honest in the time it takes to get the stacking correct any team could have killed most of us. plus when you do stack mechs do take damage. To be honest i have not had this much fun in this game since when i was in the closed beta and in teamspeak with the devs playing with my catapult with 4 mg's and 2 gauss rifles. I liked the animations of the older gauss cannons to be honest the blue spiral was much more entertaining. Though I believe after killing Paul and Matt one too many times, they nerfed the crap out of my build. the mech stacking was done 2 times at most and here is this guy, OP complaining about losing 1 match because he and his 12 man made pre made couldn't handle defeat from people who are trying to screw around and have FUN. I guess the OP sees "FUN" as some sort of buzzword that doesn't have any meaning, especially in video games.
also I was too cheap to buy a founders pack.

Why don't you stop trying to incite arguments, proof or stop with the accusations.

It really doesn't matter how effective or ineffective it is, how fun or not fun it is, how easy or difficult it is to accomplish or anything else. The only thing that matters is that it is exploiting game mechanics in an unintended way with the potential to confer an unintended advantage. Again, in private matches it's fine. In public queue's its not.

Personally this is why I really dislike games that only allow Random Matchmaking. Those that allow player created lobbies are able to run standard rule games in the official game rooms, while players are able to create their own matches using whatever rules they come up with. I'd love the ability to make "Novelty Rooms" in MWO. Lights only, commandos only, atlas only, x weapon only, etc. These types of "just for fun" rooms have routinely been some of the most fun I've had over the years in online competitive games.

I just wanted to say I find it hilarious the very few times I've seen it happen. Unless you're getting a speed boost by being an assault landing on a light, you're basically making yourself a giant target that can't avoid a target that your ally does not notice is focused on you.
Personally I've only done it like 2 or three times for the lulz, at least until the fights start happening. I just like seeing people's comments when they see me on someone's head. You will die fast if you go on someone's head.
I saw a catapult do that in frozen city one time, I wrecked him for doing that (sorry whoever it was), it was funny. :P

Because I am in EVERY group that we have going... I am the HNIC and it is streamed and recorded everyday. You are full of BS on this one.. Not even close to the truth.. You are WAYYY the **** out of line on this one, and you know it.

Just played against a unit named [redacted] that makes use of this tactic. I was under the impression this is not allowed, has that changed?

Screenshots have been submitted to MWO in the event it is not legal. Have the names as well but will not post them.

this is not a problem. funny as hell, but not something that will make any team win faster

How bout it pisses off the community at large and is a known to be an exploit and at the least disruptive as evidenced by this thread. Its pretty easily solved stop doing it in public matches. That is all anyone is asking for.

I believe Bishop isn't posting the name and what not cause that is against MWO's naming and shaming policy. Don't be so butthurt that you got caught using something that is deemed an exploit.

but the question is did it confer an unfair advantage? I'm not so sure about that. its silly and dumb?, yes. it is game breaking?, I have my doubts to be honest. the only way to know is if in a controlled environment, this stacking trick is tested rigorously, and that it can be confirmed or denied though the proper testing methods. to simply call something an exploit without taking the time to determine it to be so, all you can do is speculate with limited information.

as for the person making accusations, i would request you prove you statements with evidence. Failure to do so would imply that you have no such evidence and that you simply wished to make false statements.

Heh, a few months(maybe a year) ago when JJ actually worked we got a tower of 10 mechs on each other. As long as the bottom had jj he could jump and lift the rest for the next to get under him.

This thread is a bad idea because now we'll see 40 meter tall DWF's zooming around at 140kph for a couple weeks. While this is exploitable, I don't think it should be removed, it's cause for some great laughs and it rarely ends well for the people doing it anyways. (That said, if a full lance of highlanders flanks behind an entire force in the first 90 seconds of a match, then they probably deserve to be banned. =P )

Case in point: I remember the first time I encountered the mechanic when I was spectating a last mech standing. It was a Raven 3L I think and it walked off a ledge and on top to the last enemy mech standing, which was a Cicada. The Cicada wondered around writhing about and shooting the sky for about 3 minutes before it finally got the idea to walk under a low ceiling which knocked the Raven off. That's quality entertainment right there and I'd be genuinely sad if it was taken away.

doubtful as a dire standing on a light will fall of fast.

lmao.. Not butthurt over anything except the fact what he said is total BS..

Like I said, I think you should read more as to the fact of if it was denied or not. And to the fact that our matches are streamed every night and often on NGNG at random times without our knowing should tell you that if it was something know to be wrong it would not have been done. I reply was to him, not you so you can step back from the sucking up.
