Light: Commando.
Medium: Trebuchet, Wolverine.
Heavy:
Assault: Awesome, Highlanders, Victors.

Shame on Wolverines, they are very good, solid mechs. Much better before the fall damage thing though; bunny hopping combat was something they excelled at.

Adder, Commando, Vindicator, Kintaro, Trebuchet, Quickdraw, Thunderbolt, Dragon, Orion, Awesome, Banshee and Highlander are probably the rarest for me to see, my own Adders don't count of course.

I *occasionally* see Hunchbacks, often enough (compared to the rest) that they don't quite make the list. Even Jenners are becoming a bit rare, though they're far more common than a Commando.

It's no coincidence they're all generally terrible mechs or severely outclassed by newer mechs in the same weight class.

I see locusts every couple of matches in solo drops. More often than not, a wasted slot, I rarely see one break 100 damage and score an assist before somebody looks at him funny.

Kintaro is not a terrible mech, you ever find me in group drop and my Kint will most likely put 400+ damage with 8+ assists on your team. All kills I get are gravy.

I play my commando's still sometimes they can really shine and hold up a large group, with fast maneuvering make the enemy team waste tons of ammo on missed shots. . Delaying their advance until they get flanked while chasing the squirrel. Did that this morning Luv this mech. Problem is without the 10% leg buff module you can leg yourself pretty quickly weaving in and out of cover and mechs. The Commando can get smacked hard in one alpha by many mechs. The Commando would be ultra perfect if I could cram another ton of ammo into it some how.
My 2 D I run with 1 small laser , 3 streak 2's and fastest engine I can fit after that. I downgraded the engine 1 time so I could fit a med laser but the slowing down of 3kph seemed to impact my play style and increase my deaths!! I then bumped it back up. In a good match I almost always run out the 2 tons of streak ammo quickly. Leaving just the 1 tiny Poker small laser.
But the Commando can be great fun to play sometimes.
I find that the commando can J jam key more often than other ECM mechs and get away with it.

Overall?

Light: Commando.
Medium: Wolverine
Heavy: Dragon
Assault: Warhawk

IS
Light:Grid Iron. Like literally never. Ever ever.
Medium: Wolver what? Cicada other than the ECM variant.
Heavy: Dragon. A remnant of the days of collision...
Assault: Everyone plays assault where they can, what you talking bout willis?

CLAN:
Light: Adder. Just cant compete
Medium: None, storm-crows and Nova seem to pop up quite regularly
Heavy: Summoner a bit, they pop up.. ..not prolific like the madcat though.
Assault: Warhawk, againt a 50/50 choice does not help but the DW is superior.

And the opposite mechs?

IS
Light: Firestarter
Medium: Shadow Hawk, always.
Heavy: This is a tough one, they IS heavies are quite diverse but think its a tie between the Cataphract and Jager.
Assault: Atlas (ECM)

CLAN - being 50/50 the above list says it.

People keep mentioning locusts. Lots of people play locusts. I think its because of the challenge and it is considered the worst mech in the game. I don't understand why some bad or average players even try to play them though.

While being an occasional Commando pilot I can confirm that Locusts are still more commmon, even if inferior in combat in almost any regard.
Regardless, Commandos still seem to be more common than the Trebuchet or Wolverine however.
Mostly 2Ds and Death Knells however.

In threads like this I almost always get the impression that many posters write what should be the least used mechs, not which are actually least used.

IS mechs.

75% of mechs played are now clan. There will ALWAYS be at least 2 timberwolves and 2 dire whales on the map between the two teams. I'm shocked if I have a match where there isn't one. Throw in a Warhawk, maybe a Kitfox. Just count the numbers at the end. You'll see that I'm unfortunately not far off.

IS mediums with the exception of Shadowhawk, Cicada and Hunchie are rare. Heavies are mostly Jagers, with Cataphracts and Catapults showing up occasionaly. I don't see many IS assaults besides Atlas and Stalkers anymore.

Out of clan mechs... I see all of them frequently except for the Summoner. Adders are probably next on the list because they have no point. They are in limbo between the KFX and Nova.

I see most mechs (at least once in a while), even Dragons, Trebuchets and Locusts.
But I haven´t seen a Victor or a Wolverina for ages.

It's funny, but I see a lot more Locusts than Commandos, and can't for the life of me figure out why. The Commando is a surprisingly decent mech for a 25-tonner; there's even a variant with ECM. It won't hold a candle to a proper 35 ton build, but I've seen some Commandos used to excellent effect, SRM damage racks up really quick, especially if it's coming in from the back, from a mech most people ignore until the end of the game.

I can't recall a single Locust ever doing well, though. I see them a lot in the solo queue, and for the life of me can't figure out why.

I haven't seen a Chimera in a decade... Really rare. Hunchbacks, Cicadas and Awesomes second.

Light: Locust (and another reason why the Flea isn't the best idea, especially with no MASC)
Medium: Kintaro or maybe Treb
Heavy: Dragon and Catapult C1s (still trying to find a build I like with the C1)
Assault: Awesome and now Victors to some extent.

Lights: Adders,

Medium: Centurions, Trebuchets, dont see many Hunchbacks or Stormcrows either. Ive only ever seen wolverines twice. I remember 'cos I didnt know what it was, I thought it was a new mech initially.

Heavy: Dont see loads of catapults, dragons or summoners

Assault: Awesomes & Banshees seem in quite short supply.

Because they are the cheapest mechs to get.

I'm not sure if quirks can save the really bad mechs like e.g. Quickdraw. I mean, what the hell are you supposed to do in a mech that has the hardpoints of a Jenner, but the size of an assault mech?

If it does get quirks, it would be cool to have universal cooldown time reduction, giving relevance to its name. But really, I think it simply has to be rescaled.

I see the Urbanmech all the time in the game, it is standing on the dashboard of my Ilya. He looks so fancy with his top hat, cigar, and spats.
