The Zeus is visually beautiful, at least its original Battletech tech-manual artwork, when compared against 99% of IS mechs in those tech readouts. The cyclops is pretty ugly, and not just compared to the Zeus

I didnt say anything about the Cyclops being beautiful. Its one fugly machine. What I said was the Cyclops is more visually unique. When the Cyclops gets put into MWO it will be beautiful looking AND look unique. Youll be able to tell its a Cyclops from several hundred meters away. While a Zeus will just look indistinguishable from other mechs.

And the Cyclops may not give that much more variety compared to the Highlander, but at least its hardpoints arnt outright worse like the Zeus. The Zeus will always have worse hardpoints than the Victor/Awesome. The Cyclops at least has a chance to be on par with the Highlander.

Quote

I'll vote Zeus but only if she gets the cooling fins. That really sets her apart from other mechs on the playground.

Those cooling fins do look cool but wouldnt be practical since it would be very easy to shoot it in the back.

Quote

The Cyclops as a whole though is a pretty bad 'Mech -- over engined, under armored.

But it can can change its engine rating and armor values, so how is that even an issue?

Russ, why don't you do us a favor and post some of Alex's conceptual art for the different choices so we have an easier way to make our selection?

The Zeus will never beat the Victor, especially with the Victor nerfs soon getting reversed.

I'd be willing to give it a run for its money :-)

the amount of c-bills required to rebuild it? Figure the Zeus would be popular against post-nerf victor pilots (we still don't know how much it will be un-nerfed) who can just transfer all of their 350XLs and weapons over to make their Zeus super cool, provided the Zeus ends up acting like a heavy heavy instead of a light assault.

Charger would just be another Awesome, wouldn't it? I don't see how it would be different from the AWS-8Q, except possibly better or worse. In either case, it leads to an obsolete mech.

I don't see what the Cyclops is adding to the game, except being 90 tons. It's a mini-Atlas, and has no unique characteristics that could lead to interesting quirks, so far as I can tell. Am I wrong?

Of course, the same can be said about the Zeus. But I'd rather play a Victor-clone than a mini-Atlas. Just my personal preference.

Tough choice.
I'd say forget Charger, bring in Hatamoto-Chi!
But as he is not in the list, choosing between Zeus and Cyclops I guess I'd prefer seeing ZEU on the battlefield. And it's 80 ton, not so tiresome to tear through...

I would pay real money for a Hatamoto-Chi.

Even as a FRR pilot.

Charger, it's the closest we're ever going to get to a Hatamoto-Chi in this game.

Well it sure adds a Zeus, doesn't it? Do we have a Zeus already? No? Fine! Go Zeus!!!

1) cyclops is visually unique, zeus is generic looking
2) cyclops has decent hardpoints, zeus has worse hardpoints than the victor in most cases

The hardpoints on most Cyclops variants are effectively clones of Atlas hardpoints, with the main difference being the addition of a CT missile slot.

FTFY

seems about as much a stretch as the Cyclops having or not having ECM. As in we just don't know.

It may have been a total failure in TT, but the Charger could have INSANE potential in MWO - with a 400 engine it can push 91 KPH after speed tweak as an assault (Probably being considered in order to keep up with the Gargoyle).

The Cyclops' loadout is so similar to the Atlas, that it feels like a faster, slightly smaller alternative (considering it's a command mech) and it does look totally boss.

The Zeus is the slowest of the crew. But she's Lyran. Therefore she gets my vote.

I think Russ actually hinted at at least a reduction in the Victor nerfs, but I can't find the thread. I'll try to keep lurking moar to see what I can turn up.

10 minute Charger concept sketch......
Posted Image
trying to keep as much "TRO" as possible in it, but accentuate the needed changes for it to have any chance at success in MWO.

Primarily, it absolutely MUST be XL friendly. The best way to do that is massive arms (which it already sported large pauldrons) and comparatively small STs. And part of the vicious circle is twist speed.... the bigger the engine, the better. Making XL use a must.

Secondary outlook was it is a large scout. It needs beefy legs to support it's mass going at the speeds it can achieve.

Anyhow, if folks like, will start cleaning up and making it into a "real" sketch.

what does or does not happen to VTR has only a passing chance of telling us what to expect with ZEU. Tis the point I am making.

Regardless of that, my lurking moar has uncovered some hope for the VTR:

About the quirks...might Victors get a reduction/removal of their previous negative agility quirks, now that they can't really poptart well anymore and they're facing the Clans?

Yes it will be flushed for the new quirks

Although, that does indirectly hurt part of my argument in favor of the ZEU (wanting an assault with pre-nerf Victor agility).

Zeus is as fast as the Cyclops. Actually a little faster with the way speed scales by weight in MWO within the same TT MP bracket.

GO ZEUS GO!!, then cyclops, and then charger.

i've wanted a Zeus since day 1.
that or the Thug...always have been my 2 faves, ever since MW2merc

(previously mentioned) as long as it feels like an overweight heavy and not a light assault, it will own.

To be exact:

Cyclops: Max engine of 400, making a maximum possible speed of 79.2 kph
Zeus: Max engine of 385 (same stock engine as Victor), making a maximum possible speed of 85.76 kph.
