The Charger is the super star here that is needed...

The Cyclops and Zeus are really just cheaper Atlases.... I want to see the Charger with the speed and mobility it promises!!

And we need another in the 90t bracket instead of a lighter assault.

Come Jan we will have:

100 tons: Atlas, King Crab
95 tons: Banshee
90 tons: Highlander
85 tons: Battlemaster, Stalker (derp)
80 tons: Stalker, Victor, Awesome

We will have 4 mechs at 90+ tons, and 4 mechs 80-90 tons. So it's not like we "need" another heavy-end assault, especially not with the KGC coming out and everyone and their mother clamoring to play it. I'd much prefer the versatility of the Zeus over a 90 ton mech that will be overshadowed by the King Crab and Atlas-DDC.

The Stalker is 85 tons.

This list shows we are both bottom and top heavy already. Something in the middle like the Cyclops would be just about right!

Voted Charger, because it's dumb and I love every minute of it! Also for the insane hope this means the possibility of some kind of melee implemented. On the subject of IS Assault mechs, being people keep posting suggestions for other mechs, where's the love for the Thug, mang?

**** yeah! One of my faves since MW2 Mercs.

Plus...

Quote

THG-11ECX Thug Jose Piloted by mercenary Jose Magellan during the fall of the Star League, this Thug variant replaces the standard engine with an extralight model. The PPCs are replaced by ER Large Lasers. In the space freed by the XL Engine, Magellan installed three more SRM-6 launchers, for a total of five. The cockpit adds a Command Console to allow a Rim Worlds commander to see the entire battlefield. Four jump jets allow the Thug Jose to cover 120 meters at a time. Finally, a Null Signature System interfered with SLDF targeting systems

Never liked the Zeus, only had limited success with the Cyclops, but the Charger - man oh man. What a beauty, and what a great back-story! An 80-ton 'mech with a STD 400 engine, armed with just five small lasers!

The down-engined and up-armed/armoured variants were quite capable assaults, but that original... Zing!

So yeah, my vote goes to the Charger. Especially if you include the original CGR-1A1 variant :)

By adding endo, ferro and an XL, it's easy to max armor the 1A1, and pack on 4 Large Lasers, 1 Medium and 17 DHS without even touching the base hardpoints., or save about 8 pts of leg armor off, drop the medium and pack 18 DHS? or AMS, etc.

If it looked cool, I'd be down with it!

And the upp teched 3050 version with JJS would almost certainly have a dual missile slot for the LRM20.

I voted Zues, but they all have their merits:

Charger - Until it can actually charge, it's limited in value. It needs to be an XL Viable variant to be useful, but XL400 80 ton mech? Could be fun going just under 100 in an assault after speed tweak, but I think the Battlemaster fills most of it's role as a fast XL Assault with lots of Energy and/or missiles, and the Victor does a good job in the mobile 80 ton range without the 400 max engine. Still, with the right hit-boxes, it has some interesting potential to be somewhat unique with the 1A5 (slower but with real weapons), 3K (JJ, Energy and Missiles, 400XL) either the 1L (Liau punishment mech! No armor, but some OK weapons and the 400 Standard) or the 1A1 (original small laser build) (Heck, give it all 4 variants). Add in quirks like a better movement profile than it's size, the ability fall like a lighter mech, reduced collision damage under the current rules, and you get a mobile assault that's limited in what it can mount, but is ultimately fairly unique and best when moving fast.

Zues - Iconic, Left side loadout heavy, CT energy slot on most, maybe a command module (ECM capable variant?), and a mix of weapons. It's a mobile longer range 80 ton mixed build mech compaired to the long range boating Awesome or the short range mobile Victor. Hardpoints aren't the most exciting ones I've seen on a mech, but the lack of RT weapon mounts is different from most Assaults, and its a-symetrical loadouts would make it the Assault Griffin compaired to the Victor's assault Shadowhawk. But with the Mauler likely coming soon, and the Gargoyle, the 80 ton space starts to get crowded.

Cyclops - Ugly mech, but fairly unique look. Command mech means command console (EMC maybe) variant is likely, and lighter frame means you can go a bit faster than the Atlas, and still carry similar firepower, but you'll have less armor. Hardpoints don't look to bring much new compared to the Atlas (they're different from the Highlander in location quite a bit), and the variants look like they simply replace weapons with diffent types (SRM/LRMs for larger/smaller ones or Arty, AC20 for Gauss, etc), so hardpoint variance may be an issue. Speed wise the Banshee is similar as well, so it feels like it may not bring anything unique by itself, but it has a potential combination that could make it unique (banshee speed with an Atlas style armament and maybe ECM). But still... ugly...

Grr, now I've talked myself into the Charger vs the Zues. I'll keep my vote though.

because..... reasons, apparently? It's Russ's topic, maybe he can tell us why, in the name of balance, Pulse Lasers are still not worth it, 75% of the time. (well Clan ones are ok, or were until MPL got heat murdered...again)

I do love my LPLs, though. Mostly it's because I'm not a top-tier shot and it lets me pop the legs off circling Lights.

Most Btech mechs start Ugly. They pay Alex to fix that.

I fully expect the Mauller first before any of these. I think they're looking for a possible direction after that though.
