I am reviving this post because I believe strongly that this feature is key to the successful intergration of the F2P model to multiplayer battletech and to the transition of company A to consumer B mentality to Dedicated Host and loving fanbase who will support thru anything.

Concept:

Pseudo In game radio channels dedicated to each house featuring faction based content and Advertising for F2P revenue.

* Multiple Channels, each house having a specific channel to increase maximum advertising content.

* Channels Serve to shape player behavior alerting them specifically production Attack Targets, Attack Results, production defense targets, defense results.

* Channels Serve to add MMO in game depth with specific event cannon news.

* Players of different house have opprotunity to create arbitrage by listening in on "bountiful" production or mech specific production of other houses on different channels, creating spontaneous attack bubbles and defense bubbles.

* if economics become a factor in this game then this also servers to shape in game markets.

* Radio adds to imersion of gameplay blurring reality and science fiction.

* By seperating each precorded advertisementm, cannon as a specific file on a list to play, content can be both mixed and fresh.

reoccuring In game events would only need to be recorded once as well.

By intergrating this feature the ability to specifically attack different homeworlds as featured in megamek and the intergation of Wide encompansing experience coupled with predetermined small boxed matches becomes a reality.

In essence this creates a large virtual space, while maintaining the most minimum of interfaces.

Also suggested, Specific window feature dedicated to map, and target choice, Overall statics page, I believe these features can be seperated from the main window to both satify hardcore fans and casual players.

If graphical advertisements are added, then a pseudo tv could be implimented instead.

: Orignal

This idea is based off fallout radio. Only thing is real advertisements should be mixed in with "innersphere cannon news". You could have this buzzing in the waiting rooms. It would give a very real feel to the game and be another way of making money without to much impact to the game. I wouldnt mind an occasional coke jingle other soft drink mixed in as long as its done tastefully. Everything could be prerecorded, you don't actually need a real radio.

"Bongo, bongo, bongo, I don't want to leave the jungle,
No no nononono,

Bingo, bango, bongo, I'm so happy in the jungle,
I refuse to go"

I love that tune. I don't want to set the world on fire... priceless. I could go for this.

I like this idea. If anyone watches Star Wars: The Clone Wars, in Ep.5 Rookies, there was a Grand Army of the Republic Radio. Here is a sample based on that episode:

Quote

You're listening to Grand Army of the Republic broadcast, the voice of the Outer Rim. This next one goes out to the mudjumpers of the 224th slugging it out on Mimban. Keep your heads down & your seals tight, boys.

There could be a radio station for each of the Successor States. Probably something like:

This one goes out to the 10th Lyran Guards, battling those nasty Dracs in sector 5043. Come home in one piece boys!

Just my 2 cents.

I would like that. I also don't have problems with advertising displays in cities.

Honestly I don't why the players can do something like that like that. Would be a cool way to also help MercCorps recruitment.
"This next song is brought to you by the Tikonov Strikers MercCorp. On Tikonov, Mech pilots YOU!"

I always enjoy sandbox multiplayer experiences rather than the "themepark model" that World of Warcraft and similar games have adopted.

Any game that encourages players to influence the game(within reason) is all right with me.

That is sooo 50s ala Fallout. Made me chuckle there. But Btech seems to dig the 60s more.

Evidence ?

Battlemechs
Rhonda Snord piloted a Highlander battlemech for most of her career, and was known to play Elvis Presley music over its external speakers. Earlier in her career, she piloted a Shadow Hawk.

Elvis, huh? Gimme a minute... here we go...

"It's now or never,
don't be afraid,
Eject, my darling,
your Mech is mine tonite.
Tomorrow will be too late
It's now or never,
My PPC won't wait!
..."

Only question remaining would be why they still would have radio stations around considering their tech level. I think 3D-holo broadcasts would be more common, unless you are stuck in hillbilly country somewhere in the periphery.

1947, Danny Kay and The Andrew's Sisters. Love it.

I think 'Mechs are related to the year in which they were designed for the game... not their fluff year, but the actual year they were designed.

I don't know... the tech level by 3048 is actually approaching an early 26th Century standard, I think, but still it would be funny to hear some of the music available. I think what would actually be neat is to allow players to link in Pandora, Live365, some other favorite radio station, or even the music you have on your hard drive to the game so you could continue to listen to your tunes during combat. I imagine some guy listening to Buddy Holly, another Liberace, others with Disturbed (<<<me, me, me) or Metallica "For Whom the Bell Tolls" or "One", and some even with Mozart, Beethoven, or "Slippery When Wet", tee-hee.

I'm not registered for Mega Video, so I can't watch it. Is it somewhere else to be found.

You'd definitely want one voice actor for each faction at least. If you toy around a bit with different accents, that could actually give some nice additional appeal for the international market. Out of my head... german Steiner accent, russian Marik accent, US FedCom accent, japanese Kurita accent, chinese Liao accent, etc.

And who says it could not be incorporated into a main MWO marketing campaign at some point? Sounds like a win-win scenario.

You do not have to be registered. The first time you click the video will not show, it will load. The second time you click the button should go green to indicate it has loaded. When you click again, the video will play.

Honestly I see no reason why the players themselves can't do something like that(Whats that HYPERPULSE/NGNG RADIO? they already have?). I see 3 solutions:

1)Integration of Pandora(or one of the other similar services) into the Game Engine.

OR

2)You can select a list of "Radio Channels". It would simply be a list of Radio Servers. PGI would only need to allow them to stream through, but would not be involved on supporting them(responsibility would fall to whoever manages the Channel).Channels would register themselves, be responsible for their own maintenance and operation, and be expected to follow guidelines as laid out by PGI.

OR

3) BOTH!

Now this is something that I am willing to wait for a future DLC for, but I think those who want radio stations can lay the groundwork now(As NGNG has done).

problem with 100% fan base radio is that they'll die and be forgotten if there isn't a stable dedication, nor will there be enough to cover all the bases. Also add revenue from radio adds wont neccessarly go towards the paranha, which would cover FTP cost hopefully.
