Do you sometimes take the time and spectate some of your teammates when not playing in a full group?
(Ya, sometimes I die early because I'm too aggressive and want to do too much, ending in a quick death and some time to watch others ><)

Sometimes you have to wonder if people have figured out that they can turn their legs, or that there are 2 crosshairs, or that red is enemy and blue is friend, that ML don't hit at 1500m and IS LRMs have a minimum range, or that you can even shoot at mechs without a big red square around them.
And you let such players fight against premade 9-12 man groups with voicecom and well-matched meta builds?
Just saying that the steering wheel underhive can hit everywhere. :P

Matchmaker does a good job. It's just that small groups shouldn't be matched against full 12 man premades.
Give 12 man premades their own queue, just like the solo queue.
And to help preventing abuse by creating 10-11 man groups, give them some reward only available through 12 man matches.

Regarding the restrictions for matchmaking, I don't really care about the game mode or which mech I pilot.
It should be possible to have 2 mechs with the same weight class in a team though.
Forcing players to play a weight class they don't like, just to be able to play in a group, is not a good idea.
If anything, players should be encouraged to join groups and play together.

Of course I've seen bads before. There are many it's hard to avoid them. And yeah a lot of group queue is pretty bad too. But since there are few teams than can field a 12 man worthy of note I don't mind the 12's even when I am in 2mans

Why do the small groups keep coming here and posting that large comp teams just want to mercilessly crush them time and time again? Really?

I cant speak for every team out there of course, but id guess most of them have 0 desire to just faceroll scrubs all night long.
By definition a comp team is looking for competition. A bunch of crybabies who cant put together a basic strategy isnt competition.

We dont want to roll you all night long. Its not fun. We would rather have good close games.

Poblem with that is the wait. I would say one out of every 4 or so games i was in last night was close. Should we be forced to wait 3 games worth of time just to play one match?

Because thats what it sounds like the small groups want.

We dont play the way they want to so we should be shoved out of the way.

Game already has that. Its called "Private Matches".

Ok you large groups only drop in private matches and leave the public queue for us small timers.

Oh u don't like that suggestion. Goes both ways!

I didnt single you out. All i am sayin is the general viewpoint of most small group players who have posted is that us big bad groups are out to ruin your fun.

No you didn't single me out.

And i am saying yes, you are right that all big groups are not necessarily out to ruin small groups fun but i have seen it, been on the receiving end of comments after being stomped on.

I can appreciate the fact that some large groups are looking to face off against other large groups. But quite a few groups love the stomp also.

ok..

So unlimited group size was allowed in game. Then it was removed and our players all but abandoned the game except one or 2.

Now between unlimited group size and unit creation our daily in game/comms went from 4 or 5 a night to 15-20 AT A TIME. Guys who have not spent a dime on the game in 2 years have popped on in the last couple weeks buying clan mechs, and wave 2 daily.

Now I see folks saying, put 2-3mans in solo but raised all kind of hell when 4 mans were there. Suggesting that we should be in private match, which offers no rewards and paying cash to run. Even receiving 1/100 rewards as another option.

I understand some are frustrated over wanting to play in "group que" but still want to water it down to no coordination as solo offers. But just from the perspective of our small community, the way it is now has GREATLY increased the playability of the game.

You have hours of game time, then group up with new players and expect to face opponents equal to their skill level, not yours?

Your w/l might not be that much higher or lower then an even 50/50, but I can guarantee your ELO is higher then theirs, there by causing the new players to face tougher competition. You didn't give em a fair chance. You tossed em to the wolves.

Well you don't know the specifics of my situation. My boys have No problems in the solo queue at all. They hold their own just fine.

Yeah only if you either play solo. Or in a big group.

I and my boys are more than happy to be in the group queue with other small groups facing off against other small groups. Just we are sick of being rolled by large pre made teams.

I think a simple check box giving me an option to fill group launches first (and then solo if no groups found) would be great.

I want that checkbox too. I much rather be the odd pug out in a group match. And implementing this simple checkbox might help matchmaker too I would think.

Please pardon me for asking, Dracol, but...

HOW ELSE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO INTRODUCE NEW PLAYERS/OUR BUDDIES TO THE GAME?

Shall I tell me friends to totes legit play MWO, but then tell them that I can't play with them because my Elo score is higher than theirs and it wouldn't be fair to them to play with the friend that told them to get into the game?

Really now, man - I understand where you were trying to go with that one, but the logical conclusion drawn from it is so absurd as to be laughable.

The first part of coming up with a solution for the small/casual groups problem is admitting that there is a small/casual groups problem. Half the people in this thread aren't even willing to go that far, which is just sad to see considering how incredibly vocal they were about the big groups problem back in the day. Kinda puts paid to the notion that Big Groups are in it to fight other big groups and get close-fought matches that let them hone their abilities, doesn't it?

Join a group, bring your buddies into something like an 8 man where they can contribute while experiencing the safety of a large group.

EDIT: I even know a unit that would have you among their ranks :P

We play in small groups of 2-4 until most come on. Don't think I don't understand. However, "personally" don't seem to fall victim to all of the non-stop unplayable conditions that most seem to make it out to be. It still seems to fall into the 50/50 win loose during the course of these matches. I really think "some" seem to over dramatize the situation and their experience just because some group talked smack to them or something.

Don't get me wrong, I know our group is more than happy to be placed against larger groups than smaller ones. But some of the severity of the situation really gets blow out of proportion.

It would be a shame if farmers forced us backwards with the MM but not a surprise. I would hope most would see that the problem with the 12 man team stomp should abate when they have CW to occupy themselves.

As it stands now I try to log in and play a couple matches grouped with my son and his friends and get the same result over and over. We are one of three or four small groups put up against a 12 man and we get brutalized.

No, this is not happening.

The reality is, there is no way by which you could CONSISTENTLY be getting matched against 12 man teams.... because the only way which such a thing could happen would be if the vast majority of teams playing in the group queue were full 12 man teams. And they are not.

The chances of your small team getting put up against a 12 man team is extremely small, and it happens very rarely. There simply are not that many full 12 man teams playing the game. The vast majority of teams playing in the group queue are small groups, and as such, the vast majority of games consist of small groups on both sides.

Its not always 12 man. 9+3 is as bad sometimes 6+6 as well.

Since you keep posting this allow me to translate:

"I cant stand a challenge and only want to be put against other unorganized scrubs"

We get it, you dont like you have to play us big boys. We dont like we have to play you either. The amount of whining is insane.

The last few times, that i spent any decent amount of time in the group queue is as follows.

1) Ran in a 4 and 5 man for about 6 matches. Got stomped on all but 1. Guess what the one that we won consisted of smaller groups as well. The rest had 9+ mans in them

2 Ran in a 4 man for 5 matches exact same scenario again. Won only one, against small group based team. All others were 8/9 man + stomps against us.

Yeah ur whining as much!

Its funny now how the larger groups are complaining how hard they have it, having to play against us small unorganized ah Scrubs was it.

Its so hard being on the winning team having ur stats xp and cbills boosted.

Sorry dude, you don't get to play with a group of folks in the solo queue just because you're bad. Because while you may not really be capable of capitalizing on the large advantage you get over purely ungrouped players, better players are capable of doing exactly that.

The reality is, the solo queue is better now that groups have been removed... and the group queue is better now that everyone can play in it.

The only folks who got shortchanged were bads who previously exploited the fact that they had an advantage over pugs.

And quite frankly, I don't really give a crap about them.

WHEN DID I SAY THAT I WANTED TO PLAY IN A GROUP IN THE SOLO QUEUE? Thats not what i am saying ffs. What i am saying is THE GROUP QUEUE IS BRUTAL FOR SMALL GROUPS, MOST OF THE TIME. Unless you face of against small groups.

I don't need a group in the SOLO queue. I like the randomness nature of the solo queue.

Once again the point is missed.

We are jot there to grind xp or cbills. Were not there to crush whiny little bads. Were there to have fun in tough close games. EveEvery time we go up against a group of bads is a wasted game.

Stop wasting my games.

How much do you guys wanna bet that if Russ secretly started diverting 2-4 man groups back into the solo queue, without telling a soul, that the Puglandia population wouldn't even notice.

2-4 man Beer Night casual groups were never a problem in Puglandia, no matter how much the frothing-at-the-mouth "MY LOSS IS EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING'S FAULT EXCEPT MY OWN", blame-the-evil-baby-eating-premades, blame-the-matchmaker, blame-the-Clans, blame-Paul, blame-the-alignment-of-the-stars types all wanted to use it as the latest reason why they weren't putting out the 9.4 W/L 15 KDR Super Elite performance they're truly capable of.

2-4 man Beer Night casual groups being thrown against competitive units scrimmaging their latest drop decks and league fits? More of a problem. I'd much prefer that small units be thrown into the solo queue with an Elo modifier to account for their potential Comms-unism than be constantly forced to drag my new-to-the-game buddy in his not-even-basic'd Catapult up against 9-man murderclanz every other match. To the point where he's told me that he's not sure he wants to play with me anymore because even though he got the game installed specifically to do so, the solo queue is the only place where he feels like he can meaningfully contribute to a match.

When someone barely out of his cadet bonus can see a striking difference in match quality and fairness between group and solo queues, something has gone pear-shaped. I'm all for making sure both queues are fair, and any measure to change things up like this again would have to be closely examined, but the number of mothers and fathers I've seen who say they can't play with their kids anymore is both telling and damning.

Unit tags will bust this sneak change ^^ But I guess people woul hardly recognize it, and yet 12:<4 stomps still happen regulary in Pugland

The only issue we have is when we drop with 6-8 players. Express to the rest of the team that "we are moving to this location" and in return get "YOU ARE NOT MY BOSS". Or they just run of like nothing was ever said. So in return when "we" are in anything less than 8 man we usually don't bother and just follow the small group and try to compensate for whatever the hell idea they have. And THIS is the reason why we had a couple smaller units join as to combine out of this kinda frustration.
