Working my way though leveling up my Masakari Clan pack and would just like to mention one thing.

First, with the Omnipod architecture there is no substantive difference between the variants of any Clan chassis. I can build exactly the same mech (with some minor tweak differences) out of any of the three variants of any Clan mech. So.....really, we didn't get 24 mechs for $240, we got 8. Effectively, just 8 different mechs.

Of those 8 mechs only 3 are actually playable. The Nova had a brief run but PGI wrecked it with the recent nerfs - so it is fast disappearing from the battle field. The only mechs you see consistently are; the Kitfox, the Timber Wolf, and the Dire Wolf. There's a reason for that. The other 5 mechs are sub-par at best. Even with the omnipod approach they have so many restrictions and limitations that it's impossible to build a fun, combat effective mech. Check out the Summoner if you want proof of that. Just horrible.

So....for $240 we got just 3 playable mechs.

Probably less than that soon. You just know the Timber Wolf will have to be nerfed soon. There are two or three in every match. Can't have that. They will probably be made unplayable soon just as the Nova was.

You get 24 'Mechs. By trying to say 3, you're trying to do a qualitative analysis on them.

Now, if you want to talk about unique center torsos, then we have 8 plus:
-DWF-B (CT 1E, key for the "Direstar" 9 ERPPC joke build, and the slightly less joke "Jovian Bolt" 2 Gauss 3 ERPPC)
-WHK-A (CT has missiles)
-TBR-C and -S both have unique center torsos, which are different yet from the Prime.

Thus, you can limit it to 12.

This looks like a fun Summoner...

Wont even reply to the rest of the QQ but wanted to point out that even without changing omnipods you can have fun builds made.

People just don't have any imagination, they want the easiest build to fit all of their mechs because the game has to suit them.

While I do make some use of the Omnipod system (Kitfox right arm). I try to build each chassis to fill a different role / play style...while you could replicate the same Mech, over and over.....does not mean you have to...would be kinda boring that way.

Less Cute Fox, more DoomCrow.

I'd put the Dire Whale as marginal. Too damned slow, but lots of guns.

So, two good mechs. The most recent blanket nerf killed most of my builds for the Nope-Va and Cute Fox.

As noted, you get 24 mechs.

That means if you favor Warhawks, you have three Warhawk builds readily available to you in mechlab (nice for swapping mechs in private matches, perhaps in other game modes going forward). Same goes for the other seven chassis options.

What you are saying is that there may be only 3 chassis, and more or less options on those chassis that you like/enjoy. Fair enough, there is wheat and chaff amongst the Pheonix Packages as well.

For my own part, I am only middling interested in the Locusts, and do not really enjoy the Thunderbolts at all. I still have yet to take the Griffins out to play, but that is more due to my enjoyment of the Wolverines and Shadowhawks, and not seeing much that is new or different in the Griffins. Your milage may vary.

If you choose to make every mech the same, you have CHOSEN to make the mechs boring.

Getting the Omnipods for free counts for something and a lot of free weapons you don't have to spend c-bills on.

I spent $240 on the package, leveled basics on all but the DWhales. What I have left is my Puma for solo queue and my Uller for drop queue with the occasional Stormcrow.

Did I waste money? Heck no. I got a lot of hours of fun out of the other mechs. But, that's me. I enjoy trying different things, learning the ins and outs of my competition, and with 24 mechs to level, it gave me something to work towards.

Don't really get em for free since you can't remove an omni without replacing it. There was no way for me to, for example, switch the prime arm for the A's arm without having to purchase a third omni as a place holder.

24, but yes a lot of them are crap. But that's not really out of line with other mechs that have been released, and there will always be a "best".

Come on man you don't get three mechs. Only terrible people play exclusively op mechs. Besides this game isn't competitive until community warfare comes out anyway. Just play.

I love how people call mechs crap. The mech just doesn't fit your play style or you can't figure out the play style needed to play it.
Most of us think the locust is crap, I'm one of those people but I have a unit mate that runs locusts a lot and he's a dam killer in them.
It's all about learning how to play the mech.

The Scarecrow is subpar at best? No, it's the best clan mech after the Timber Wolf.

If you choose to run every variant with the exact same loadout, that's more of an issue with you than it is a failing of the pack.

Having played every single mech, and mastered them all, there are blatantly good mechs and crap mechs. Sure, you can do well in a crap mech, especially in Rambo queue, and I have my own personal favourites amongst the crap mech variety that I like to roll in for funzies. However; the reality is, if 2 identical players played against each other, one in a good mech, and one in a crap mech, the one in the good mech will win every single time.

If you take each "role" to the very bleeding edge, there is always only one or 2 best mechs for each role. Which is why there are only a few consistent turnouts from the current clan mechs.

There are 13 unique CTs among the 24 mechs in the Masakari bundle. Only the TBR has three unique, two each for the NVA, WHK and DWF and the other four are clones.

Also, OP, the SCR is laughing at you. It's amazing.

You missed the NVA-S.

I'm entirely sure about that "after" part. Stormcrows are really, really good.

...well dang. Learn something new. So, I can unequip an omni pod and leave it without, say, an arm?
