Hey devs... this has been a bug for a few patches now. I know it's been reported but it feels like it's getting worse...

The problem is that one or more of your team mates do not have their blue dorito tag above their mechs, and don't show on radar... mousing over the mech does not show any ifno at all about them...

This causes a lot of friendly fire and team kills due to people thinking they are enemy mechs covered by ecm... It used to be that if you powered down and powered back up, it would fix it most times... that no longer seems to work at all...

I keep watching the patch notes hoping that it's fixed, but it's been at least 2 patches with no mention of it...

People get pretty upset when they take friendly fire :( Please see if we can get this fixed soon.

If you see a mech not on radar not shooting at you and not ECM capable and already knowing there is a bug that causes the "friendly" to appear that way, why shoot it? especially noticeable at the start of a game when alot of friendlies can see it, of course it is a problem devs havent fixed it but still people need to control the itchy trigger fingers.

Apparently I was bugged the other day. Less than 20 seconds into the match, I had already take 17% damage from Friendly Fire. This was on Terra Therma. It's not like some enemy mech could have closed that quick.
Sometimes people just don't think...

A few tips I've posted in the other threads regarding this:

Look to see who teammates are shooting at. Focus fire on that target. use tab to see what mechs are on your team at the beginning of the match.

Whenever I've seen this bug, it affected several mechs. When you're missing a few IFF flags, it's time to shoot cautiously.

Saw a friendly with this bug on Forest Colony a few days ago. Thankfully we were all grouped up firing at the same position, so I knew better than to rip open the mech's back. There was no other way to tell it was a friendly though, and at range this could have gone much differently.
Have to pay close attention to unidentified mechs nowadays, both to see who they are firing against, and who is firing against them.

Really hope this gets fixed soon.

Was in a Cat K2 moving in formation with my lance when all of a sudden, our Atlas starts shooting me, and I mean REALLY shooting me! Took out my left torso and one of my 2 AC20s in the process before he stopped firing.

He wasn't seeing the blue triangle over my head either. Thing is, this was in the first minute of the match on Canyon Network. There's no way a Catapult could have closed the distance that fast and gotten around the entire team.

People need to understand this bug exists and be mindful of how much time has elapsed in the match as well as whether said player missing his blue triangle is or is not shooting your teammates.

The problem here is that, while it should be fixed, it forces people to use logic and think "is that my teammate"? Which most people seem to be bad at (at least i the PUG queue) Most lower level PUG's train of thought seems to be. OH AN ENEMY = OH LOOK, DAMAGE I CAN DEAL OUT = OH I CAN GET POINTS AND MONEY EASILY, NO ONE ELSE SEES HIM.

-Obviously, an enemy Assualt mech didn't teleport next to you in the first 30 seconds of a match, hold your fire
-If the rest of your team isn't firing at him, it's probably a friendly
-If you can't target the mech, and there's no enemy ECM around, it's probably friendly
-Just ask in chat

I was playing a match where two mechs were left on our team, on HBK and one SDR, and I was spectating. To the SDR, the HBK did not have a dorito. The SDR encountered the HBK and the last enemy, a Twolf, fighting each other. Rather than LOOK (Tab) to see what other mech chassis was still alive on our team, he starting gunning for the HBK, amazing.

I can confirm same issue, but it was present prior to the latest patch and hotfix. I figured it was a "challenge accepted" scenario as the mechs not showing Friend/Foes were clanners.

Yeah, that's how it should work: When encountering a unidentified 'Mech,
> open the Battlegrid
> search for the 'Mech in question
> if not visible, remeber the whole enemy teams setup
> check, if initial enemy team setup minus kills so far includes ECM-capable 'Mech
> if answer is NO, shoot
> if answer is YES .... well. No solution on that end.

LOL.

I had posted this in general since it wasn't specific to this patch (started a month or so ago I think), but it looks like it got moved...

The bug isn't as big a deal at the start of a match if people know about the bug and think before shooting but some people still seem to freak and start to fire... once you have engaged the enemy the bug is a huge pain as hesitating to see if they are shooting at you means your giving up dmg time on them if they are actually the enemy.

#1 Bad Bug.

I have never seen a dev response to this.

Can we get one please? (Or a link to a previous one)

Thanks.

Or just fix it. =)

I don't know if this was the case before the latest patch, but I've noticed this bug taking effect halfway through a match now. Its a real problem when you have a friendly running from enemies. He looks like the spear tip of an assault and takes fire from everyone before they figure it out. It doesn't take a lot of friendly fire to cripple a mech.

The times I see this happen, the mech without the triangle is either carrying or covered by an ECM. Check the code for the ECM isn't reflecting the behaviour of the enemy IFF onto friends.

Yeah this is a bigger problem than I first though. At the end of a match it was me an two other guys. And a friendly timberwolf fell of a building with his tag missing (I was aware he had a missing tag, but thought he was still on top the building) thinking hes enemy, I unload on him until, "Friendly Fire" shows up. After all that shooting and him shooting back, he was a friendly the whole time! And screwed myself and the rest of the team! By far the worst thing ive done.
