forcing a 3/3/3/3 or even something that doesn't allow 8 assault, heavies, and a light?
like hard maxed something...we need some size variety.

Or
Instead of 3/3/3/3 more to 3/6/2/1 or 2/6/2/2. Mediums are supposed to be the workhorse after all.

Totally agree! 3/4/3/2 would be my optimum.
But any suppositions would be good for a Battletech game, and since in MWO we have no signs of being a part of Battletech universe anything... No BT limitations are reasonable at the time. We even fight in faction-mixed teams..
And I wonder, if the devs implemented some kind of BV, what insane numbers would the assaults have?) Maybe that's the reason they don't make BV - the system would definitely crumble without asymmetric match making)

If you want to see less assaults in the game, you have to find a way to make people want to run mediums and lights. You can't just say "HARD MATCHMAKING LOCKS PLZ" and give people guff for not piloting the lighter weight classes. if they don't want to pilot those 'Mechs, they'll either play what they want and complain about the long matchmaking time or, if the MM just flat won't let them drop in anything but Commandos, they'll go play something else and complain even louder about the matchmaker screwing them out of the 'mechs they bought and paid for.
Like it or not, Dire Whales are the new-n-shiny. people want to fly them, and the game as it stands doesn't really encourage anyone to do anything but run the fattest hulk they can get into the game with. Why shouldn't someone run their Dire Whale if they want to do so?

I don't want to play mediums right now because teams are generally 50% assaults and most of the rest heavies. This isn't really a friendly situation for anything besides More Assaults - creating a self-perpetuating problem. When we were getting regular 3/3/3/3 drops I was running around in mediums all the time and loving it.

I agree with you to a point!
PGI needs to create greater incentives to running lights and mediums. However, seeing 8-10 assaults in a match creates a domino effect whereby the weight keeps ramping up so people can slug it out. This makes for boring gameplay, which will also chase people away.
Tightening the valves a bit (not shutting them completely) may be necessary after introducing the Dire Whale to keep games at least somewhat fluid.

When were we really getting 3x4 drops? Wasn't that like four hours?
I like the idea of better balance, really, but 1453 nailed it: you need real incentives, you can't just force people who are doing something for fun to do it a way they don't find fun.

If you take your Vindicator, you know you will face 7 dire wolves. But if you take your Dire Wolf, you know you will face 8 dire wolves, but at you have 55 additional tonnage in weapons and armor.

true, coming to 2/1/5/5's is so much more fun.
Nearly no one wants to play mediums now, because everyone else can nearly one shot your sicne they don't have the speed to dodge damage.

But i hate to break it to you....if they have 7 you have 7.
I have yet to see that rule get broken, so it was still an even match you just must have had some Derp's and Leeroys on your squad or just faced a team with their stuff together.

Also what? So why is the Medium queue often 25% or more? At EST prime time at least it seems to be not to mention once the SCR comes out for C-bills this will change a lot of peoples idea of a Medium mech lol.

So since no one wants to play mediums, the solution is to make 25% of people play them anyway? That follows how? My point is not that the current situation is perfect but that the solution isn't trying to force people to play something unappealing, but to make more things appealing.

One of the big issues is tying XP gain directly to damage done, kills, assists, aka hurting the enemy. Perhaps there needs to be a bell curve. Assaults get 100% XP, Heavies get 115%, Lights get 100% (I rock some pretty amazing XP gains in my lights with NARC/TAG/UAV bonuses) and Mediums get 125% XP.
Not saying this is perfect either, but is a thought to entice without forcing or nerfing.
