I am hoping that the second wave dominates just as the first wave did

Executioner had a chance with or without MASC but until then all hail and worship dire whale *for clan assault.

Isolated and alone it goes down to groups of mediums or lights.
If I find a Dire Wolf I look to see if he is alone and I have support.
And then decide, run and fight it latter or fight it now.
I do not see them as a problem.

If someone wants to stay at the back and shoot long range weapons in a Gargoyle, they brought the wrong mech there are much better options for that style of play.

it can be useful as a rusher/tip of the spear, and can do some pretty decent damage, but it can not go toe to toe with another assault mech alone. it lacks the stopping power and armor to take it on. But heavies will get rekt.

No need to dethrone it. Dire Wolf, Warhawk and Gargoyle are all different chassis with different capabilities, pros and cons and, i dare say, different uses .

Warhawk can go almost as fast, has more armor, and can mount more weapons.
The Dire Wolf is the Dire Wolf.
Gargoyle's niche is in a fast assault group, but if you don't need the speed, the other 2 are better mechs.

That being said I play my Mad Dog in a support role and it works an absolute charm, try tackling anything in a similar weight class alone though and it gets shredded. It just does not have the staying power to survive a slugfest.
That also being said I would not like to be in cuddling distance of a Gargoyle Prime unless it had been softened up. Especially if it had a friend... 11 tonne of armour be damned. >.<

If it runs around like Victors used to than I can see it being very good. If it handles like a fat slug than forget it.
