Telling your kids to not follow strange links is not a viable option?

No. It's never bad parenting, it's our decadent societies corrupting influence that perverts them. Or the devil. Yeah.. it's usually the devil.

What 'Mech does the Devil pilot, and does he stream on Twitch, or Hitbox? I'd have to assume that he includes a link to his stream in the chat, otherwise, OP couldn't get upset at him....

Every time somebody spams their stream link I think 'oh yeah, lemme just alt+tab and watch that!'

oh wait

It's silly to say that spamming a twitch link should result in a ban because it's hardly that big a deal. I should be able to mute the people who spam them though.

While I think it would be funny for PGI to ban NGNG (their own media outlit) since they always say "your live on twitch" before every match..

Just no.. Publicity for the game is always good, stop being so self conscious, and i really hope this mentality doesn't spill into real life with you chasing after people that snap a photo that happens to have you caught in it.

ironically in 'real life' most countries have laws that protect your right not to have your likeness used for promotional purposes without your consent

While I'm not saying that it "couldn't" apply to online gaming, those laws are in place for real world applications in which if they didn't have them, companies and for-profit organizations could freely record you and utilize you as a means of generating money.

It's hard to make an argument that someone's gaming handle of "L337pwnz0rs" is an extension of their likeness. It's text. There's no recording of that person's image, voice, or any qualifying characteristics of them as an actual person.

In fact, the closest streaming comes to potential legal issues lies within the players you're streaming with who are on comms, as their voices (an actual extension of their likeness) are being recorded, which may require consent depending on local laws. I always make an effort before I stream to ask, "I'm about to stream, does anybody have any problems with their voices being heard in stream?"

As for the OP and the spam issue. I see it no worse than a unit advertising their webpage, which is allowed once per match IAW the CoC.

I know I wouldnt want my kids or anybody elses following strange links around the internet because some guy in a game told them to go there. Theres no telling what type of material people may be linking to. Might as well just link people to chat roulette.

You should probably teach your kids not to click on strange links then. There's not going to be someone there to babysit them forever.

Soo, some folks have an issue with their matches being streamed? Or that you are being streamed on NGNG "before" the match starts to maybe to give you a heads up not to act like a jackass?

But you agreed to this https://mwomercs.com/privacy ? hmmmm.. interesting..

Why spam that link in game? Why would I stop playing to watch you play the same game? I can't copy paste either, you seriously expect me to take a screen shot and type that in? Its not spam, its just stupid. If you want people to watch your stream, why don't you, idk, post a link in the forums of the game, you know where people who aren't playing might be visiting to see what people are talking about and would easily be able to just click on the link and watch the stream.

No, it shouldn't be reportable. It's posting a single link at the beginning of the game. Feel free to turn off your chat if you don't like it, or mute the people who do it.

The amount of people who lack self control and need every one to do everything for them. Including ignore for them, win for them, build mech 4 them, aim for them. Its like the fat people who cant stay out of mcdonnalds and want laws passed to make them stay out of mcdonnalds.

Because it's generally used as a courtesy. Nobody is expecting players to alt-tab from the game to go watch the stream. It's simply a heads up that the game might have an audience watching, as players will usually play better to try and impress the viewers.

For example, when I see the common, "Your on NGNG TV!" I know there's about 80-100 people watching the game. That's 80-100 people that could potentially go, "Wow, that Aresye guy is pretty tough," because I generally play to my utmost ability when I know there's people watching.

Smaller streams (like my own) are generally just for meeting new folks that you've met in previous matches, and it's also useful for recruitment. For example, if we're in a 4man group and I say, "Greetings from Clan Wolf Alpha Galaxy, you're live at twitch.tv/aresguy)" at the beginning of the match, then if we play well, we might have some folks interested in joining, so they'll go to the stream to watch how we play, and are able to ask questions without resorting to in-game messaging between matches.

It also comes in handy when the Lords are streaming, because you can watch them while they're in the queue and avoid dropping against them :P

The current moderation policy we have followed regarding URLs in-game is as follows:
-The URL must be to your MWO Unit website, MWO stream, MWO fanpage and so forth, or the official MWO Website/Facebook/Twitter. Otherwise, it may be regarded as advertising.
-The URL may only be used once per match. Repeating the same URL will be regarded as spamming.

Related general policy regarding use of MWO content:
-The fan content must not have any pay-barrier to access MWO-related content.

Related general policy regarding "inappropriate" content:
-We are a game with players aged 13 and up from around the world. Please be considerate of impressionable minds and respectful of different cultural values when chatting in-game or posting in the forums.

We have already had to remove several people for advertising unrelated services
(A Prime Example many may remember: A group of players who had repeatedly spammed chat with URLs to their custom Gaming PC site.)

when we will we get the ability to mute/squelch objectionable chat ingame? Even a text command would be acceptable

Well all they have to say is "You are on stream". Don't need to spam the link. When you spam the link. I'm tempted to use language that might drive away your audience out of spite. Happens to me a lot in Counter-Strike GO a lot. So I use lots of colorful language so the audience knows I am displeased with their judging eyes.

Game is in a pretty good state judging by the things people feel the need to complain about at the moment.

Of all the things on the internet, you are seriously worried about a link someone will post in chat? (As opposed to the smut that appears in chat from time to time....)

And you are smart enough to leave recorded evidence of your trollish behavior? Don't think for an instant that I'd have an issue going back and highlighting the incident and sending a link to the footage to customer service along with a complaint. I've only had to do this once, with a deliberate friendly fire/attempted TK incident, but I would not hesitate to do it again.
