Does the flame damage actually go through the wall or just the effect?
Cuz if it does, I'm begging you PGI plz don't fix. Just blame it on strange radiation issues from the HPG signal broadcast.

Just curious... but who came up with this $250k figure anyway?

Yeah, I'm also trying to find the source of this number since I keep hearing it and still don't really believe it, unless it is in Yen or something.

Maps don't cost $250,000 anymore.

Yes, let's make this about the community and how bad it is.

Not about the $250,000 map that has holes in it you can shoot a flamer through. Or, for that matter, all the other $250,000 maps with their invisible walls and myriad other issues.

The OP posted two screenshots without commentary apart from a question in the thread title, and you went on a little rant about how everyone but you is apparently a whiny kid.

The OP is not the one making the community look bad here.

The maps don't cost 250K anymore. Russ has had to say that at least 3 dozen times over the last 2 years, alone.

Iam hoping that mwo staff is reading the forum.. Am i wrong? Errr.... hopefully iam not

And the best way to get people to read your thread is ... to ridicule and mock them in the thread title? You should go back to school. Or ask your mom to tell you that she's sorry for the way she raised you.

I'm still trying to wrap my head about the "fact" (cause I don't believe everything I read on the internetz) creating a map for a game would cost $250k... seriously... was this the collaboration of like 8-9 people making between $55k-65k a year... or two really ******* lazy ***** taking their sweet time and milking some overtime to create? Or... was Russ alone making the maps and basing his yearly salary (not including bonus') on the funding development for them?

Seriously... wtf came up with $250k for a figure? And mention of Russ stating it doesn't cost that much anymore... care to link that comment here to share? I'm just utterly amazed given games with large amounts of maps plus general development of the game can only cost a few million to develop (this does not include operational costs).

The first few maps did, because they didn't have people, so it took longer, cost more, and they had no assets to work with. Not they can crank out a map for less than half that cost.

People should go look up the previous townhall meeting, and listen to the part where Russ specifically addresses this over-repeated factoid that hasn't been true for over 2 years now.

The real issue with this map is that it is plain ugly. (unless you enjoy fighting on a twisted Borg cube)
as a structure that HPG thingy makes absolutely no sense.

But that is a matter of taste, the new factory map on the other hand is very neat....

I didn't have problems with Manifold at all at this point and as long as you can't shoot an AC 20 trough that wall, I'll be fine with fixing the clipping error with a patch sometime.

New factory map has crummy fps issues though.

I enjoy HPG, dunno what you think is so ugly. Though I suppose the sky could use a face-lift, bit boring right now.

Don't worry, some planetary defense lasers can help with that lift.

As i said, thats a matter of taste. I think of it as a ugly mess of nonsensical scrap metal boxes and in contrast to other maps, where the structures used to be of intelligible design - but that is my view. I am glad that there is a certain appearance diversity

Funny thing with the fps issues on the factory map - I get much higher fps rates on that map than on others.

Maps never did cost anywhere near that figure. Once someone knows the dev toolset du jour, and taking ones time, and being as precise as possible, a month? And an additional week or two to play test/debug?

Add in the time spent on the concept.....like a cool dream, or just baking on the idea......how long? A week? If a guy can't come up with a concept after a week and a few bong hits, he needs to go.

Tops.

Good fiction is still .... fiction.

It's the learning curve of the toolset. I HAVE to assume (ruh roh) that they are hiring people who already know the toolset .......

Yup weirdness. I get about 20-30fps on factory, while HPG gives me about 60 and most other maps about 40-50. CryEngine's works in mysterious ways...

Hrrrng!

Yes, put the background shinies in!

HPG is one of my favorite maps, oddly enough. It's one of the few where you can get people to do something besides take the hill in the middle sometimes.

You mean the fabled "take the basement in the middle" maneuver?
