Seen in CW of all places, in my team! I spectated while he was slowly killed by a Davion Locust with 4xMG (if he had lasers he didn't use them). It was a strange, slow spectacle.

I'll bite.
The 7MPL T-Bolt 5ss is considered by many to be one of the most of not THEE most competitive IS build available for CW. Head shaking, face palming build in your opinion? Please explain or expound.

The thread title says "head shaking, face palming", not "uncompetitive builds". Have you ever gone to a local game store where people play traditional games? Every store has that one guy that nobody wants to play with.
He's the guy who is banned from every D&D group for arguing with the GM that pun pun is totally legit so he should be allowed to run it.
He's the guy who will rules lawyer that in W40K, he should be allowed to place a huge piece of impassable terrain covering exactly 50% of the board, in your deployment zone, so that you can't deploy anything and automatically lose.
He is the guy that is banned from every magic the gathering tournament because he will mana weave and then argue that it's not against the rules and that his opponent is not allowed to re-shuffle his cards after he finishes mana weaving.
He's the guy who plays tabletop battletech and brings nothing but 7/11/7 jump mechs with clan pulse lasers and targetting computers, and insists on a board covered with heavy forests.
He is universally known as "that guy" and is banned from every group at the store. People who run 7 MPL tbolts outside of tournaments are "that guy". Also known as your ******* cousin who absolutely insists on using nothing but hidden boss characters when playing fighting games like Street Fighter at a party.

I still don't understand. I was hoping you had some builds that were better, than those you mentioned.
I took the OP to be asking for stupid or goofy builds that make one "face palm" or "head shake", etc. I took your response to mean that you feel that the normal, so called "competitive builds", invoke that response in you. Okay. I still don't understand why. I don't understand what rules lawery-ing, or those other games have to do with what the post is about either. No worries.

I can explain it for you . . . it's called, in the tabletop (TT) gaming world, "munchkining" or "being a munchkin". It's the art of rules-lawyering things, that aren't technically against the rules, into such dickery as to utterly break the game and ruin the enjoyment for everyone involved, except the person "munchkining". There's even a parody card-game called "Munchkin" that mocks every facet of the concept and nearly every gaming stereotype out there.
What Jun is basically saying is that when he sees these min-maxed builds in MWO, he has to just sit there and shake his head. No matter the mech's actual lore-based role, players have "munchkined" min-maxed builds that push the quirks, hardpoints, and hit-boxes of mechs to their utter limit. Now, the correlation with TT gaming is the fact that in TT Battletech mechs don't have hardpoints, and technically anything can be built into anything else, as long as the tonnage is there. The Thunderbolts and whatnot that he's referencing here basically mimic the builds that people put together in the exact same scenario he mentions for TT gaming. In MWO the mechs just happen to have the hardpoints to basically clone those old TT builds pretty close.
In effect, it reminds him of "that guy" in TT Battltech gaming who will come in with said min-maxed "munchkin" build. Then he demands that the game be played in the perfect scenario where his mech thrives and it screws over everyone around him who is actually using lore-friendly mechs and builds. Not unlike how in MWO people run said MPL T-Bolts and then ALWAYS, without fail, vote for Frozen City (for that ice-cold close ranged battle). Then, without fail, if they don't get the exact map and game mode they want, they scream and yell and throw tantrums that basically equate to, "How dare people want to play something where it's not my optimal scenario?!?"
Is it wrong? No . . . well, not at face value. Does it defy any rules? No. In fact, are the mechs even bad builds? No. However, does it make some of us just sigh and shake our heads because it wreaks of the days of "that guy" and TT gaming? Yes . . . yes, it sadly does.
Without even asking, yes, some of the "that guy" players are those same min-maxers of certain facets of the MWO community. They're the ones that scream and yell and throw tantrums over not being able to exclude themselves from every game mode except one and want map exclusions on top of it. Then they believe they shouldn't have long wait times, either, because anyone who hasn't made the same level of nit-picking exclusions as them should just be forced to play what they want; and people should always cater to their desires.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On another note, I am also the source of much head-shaking and face-palming in MWO, because I strongly advocate for Flamers to get fixed and refuse to stop running them in game. Funny thing is, though, I make my flamer-mechs work for me and still score well above average in most games (granted, we all have ups and downs). Of course, I currently run them as support weapons (with my Flamer-primary variants shelved until they're fixed) . . . but one day they'll be fixed . . . and one day I'll be happily scorching everything in my path and cackling with insane glee, like the pyromaniac I am.
. . . Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Just another BRAVE CLAN WARRIOR who is looking for a new thread where he can QQ about the big bad 7 MPL-Tbolt that tore his shiny golden Timmy to shreds, which is so unfair. You know, that should never ever be allowed to happen.
No worries.

Back to topic, this week I spotted a Hunchback Grid Iron sporting an AC/5 as his single balistic weapon, alongside two MPLs. I forgot to take a screen shot, unfortunately.

I see what you did there.
Yeah, I agree with you, and yeah I remember The Guy from my face-to-face gaming days. However -- and I'll say unfortunately -- the dynamic of anonymous online gaming is different, and we cannot really not play with The Guy. I'll never personally understand the fun in running these one-dimensional, one-button min-max builds, and especially in non-comp environments like the pug queue. I like to run in "superstock" builds which retain the essential character of the original mechs while updating for 3050 tech base and slightly focusing weaponry -- no greater pleasure than handing The Guy his *** in something like that.
