If you want to go bigger, the YLW and the Firebrand are both quite fast for their weights, and both have fun builds you can run with them.

Ilya is regarded as one of the bests, you can run some pretty hard hitting builds.
Firebrands are pretty mean, twin gauss with some medium lasers.
I own a Ilya, but my favorite hero I own is the Jester, its a heavy with speed, punch, jj, and AMS so its almost a complete package.
There is a new Raven hero I believe, not sure if its any good.
Misery is also pretty cool, its the only Stalker with a ballistic slot, that means it gets missiles, lasers, AC20/gauss and tons of armor.

(Personally I'd wait until CW is implemented before I dropped any money, but to each their own on that one
Try out a heavy first though, seriously. Even if it's a trial mech. They play completely differently from lights in all aspects.

ILYA MUROMETS
There's a couple of builds I run in my Ilya. It's actually a very versatile mech. It can brawl, it can snipe, it can direct fire support. It can suppress, and it can soak damage. I'd suggest playing around in smurfy with it and a couple of its variants. you can really rack up the cbills in it as well.

However, you seem to be looking at mostly heavies. I don't have a firebrand but have all the other Jagers ... it is a good mech and the high mount ballistic hard points let it use terrain for cover better than the low slung arms on an Ilya. On the other hand the Ilya has extra tonnage to play with and can fit more ballistics than a Firebrand.
Sparky and Jester are both all energy hard point hero mechs. I have the Jester and like it. It can be effective but the build choices are fairly limited. I don't have Sparky but the Griffin is supposed to be pretty good.

The Misery is another premier Hero mech to consider.

I love my Misery but the OP didn't ask about assaults. If you're just looking for a hero mech in heavier classes, the Misery is hard to go wrong with. It has a very diverse loadout option and can fill just about every role on the battlefield. The narrow chassis profile make it a smaller target than others in that weight class and the weapon hardpoints are mounted high so you can "peek" over ridges without completely exposing yourself to return fire.
Can't say enough good things about the Misery.

there's a few builds to give you an idea of what you can do with the Misery

JESTER WUB
90KPH Heavy; It's more or a less a really big Jenner. Frikken hilarious. Dual AMS is pretty nice too.
EDIT: Fang is serious style points though. I love the way the Dragons look, and if you can play them well, they're amazing 'Mechs.

Edit: Because best heroes in their weight class, and extremely enjoyable to play.
For the 55 you pay for timbers you get 3 chassi and the included omnipods let you reconfigure your hero mech to whatever the heck you want it to be anytime you feel bored.
You won't regret it, even with the upcoming balance changes it's the best robot.

The YLW is huge for a medium mech and you really have to use that shield arm a lot... I don't enjoy it as much, but some people love it.
The Ilya is a great mech... 3x UAC5/3 med lasers can rip things apart.. It was my fav mech for a long time... The Ilya does have a problem of having it's arms low, so you really have to make sure to take that into account or you waste ammo but if you can get past that it's great.
So, I stopped playing the Ilya when clans came out and I started to skill those up... Nope not what your thinking, I didn't jump on the TW and not look back lol...
While skilling the clan mechs, I ended up with "the Arrow" when it went on sale... and I loved it... most fun in a medium mech I had in a long time... so when the Firebrand whet on sale, I figured, hey a BIG ARROW.
I grabbed it and it's currently my favorite mech.
I only stopped playing it to skill up the Mad Dog, and every drop in the Mad Dog, I am missing my Firebrand lol...
I don't run 2x Gauss on it although that is a pretty deadly build...
I run 2x UAC5 and 6MLs, 4 extra DHS and it's a ton of fun and very deadly... You have to watch your heat, but this rips things apart, and your not stuck with the slow rate of fire of the Gauss... I just miss too often with the Gauss, so I find this build a lot more forgiving
Only other thing I would say is moving from lights, you may want to drop in the heavy trial mechs just to get a feel for the speeds you will be moving... you may find you prefer the mediums...
For IS medium, I love the blackjacks as I say, but the Shadowhawks and Griffens are also great...
For clan mechs, the Timberwolf and Stormcrow would be my current suggestions... I prefer the Stormcrow over the Timberwolf to be honest... feels more exciting when I play it for some reason.
Also I see some people suggesting the Jester... that was one of the "most fun" mechs I owned before the clans came out... but the Timberwolf can jump and move fast as well, and carries more weapons and armor so I can make a better "jester" with the timberwolf...
I am really hoping the Jester gets some nice quirks as I do miss playing it...

True enough, high arms are nice. Probably why I am loving the Firebrand and Arrow
Just my opinion of course, but I just don't find the Jester as fun post PPC / JJ nerfs... pre nerfs I would have suggested the Jester to anyone looking for a Hero... now it's not my top 5 if someone asks

Well I play mainly light and Medium mech.
EMBER (Keeping with the lights you are already use to)
ARROW (Lots of fun loadouts possible, able to mount AC20 and has JJ unlike Centurion)

I wouldn´t waste money on the ember or any other "hero mech", but thats of course, up to you.
The FS9-H can mount 2 additional lasers, but lacks 2 (useless) mgs.
Ilya, Yen-Lo or Fang are all old designs, so their hitboxes are kinda screwed.
Take a look at Shadow Hawks, Vindicators, Jaegers (JM6-S, can mount 3 UAC5, the Firebrand cannot), Stalkers, Highlanders or Banshees!
