There have been many people talking about why to put you're coin on a game that you have yet to try. There have been many a reason about why you should not. Recriminations, trolling, and a plethora of other things happening in between. But what is the real reason you should pony up your money?

The simple answer is because your money talks. Your saying why you would or did not pay does not even register in the minds of the people with the cash. The people that front millions of dollars to pay for labor, hardware, software, an office...they do not give a damn about you if you do not pay. What they care about is if they will make back their money, if they can double their investment, and if it can happen again!

Plain and simple...money talks. People putting up millions on kickstarer to get a long dead franchise revived. Founder of a new game studio fighting tooth and nail to justify why a investor should part with their money. A million other situations that all speak to why I have a gold badge right now.

Simply put, I am now a statistic. I am a value on some analytic that another game developer can use to get money to make a game I may enjoy. I have helped not only Piranha and IGP, but many other developers that are faced with rising costs and a skeptical market. And that...that is worth $120...don't you think?

I agree. The best way for game consumers to "vote" is to support the kinds of games we like. Even if we dont get to see them first.

Money talks
BS........walks

I wanted to be a stat so I can play this game
And bringing in over a mill in 2 days make this look WAY better than me waiting till Aug 6th to buy
But that is what we have been saying about supporting our game
Be a stat for your game if you want it

no i dont agree. while i fully support MWO and its dev team, you dropping money on this project only puts you in the statistic of consumer who will purchase a product based on video and artwork. thats the same statistic as someone who watches a commercial about tampons and runs out to buy them. if you want to make the game better and contribute to the cause, you need to go out the door and talk to the masses personally.

Well, I don't think it's worth $120, but I have put up $30. Can you apply for Elite or Legendary status later or was it a 1-time deal? I believe in helping the folks who are working on MW:O but would have preferred to have had a quick look at the game in some form or other, before parting with my cash.

By buying the Founders pack without playing a beta you are basically becoming an investor.
But smart investors always check what they are buying into. Am I paying to become a beta tester? Am I investing $120 into internet stock in 1999?
The founders pack just does not offer enough reward for the risk.
If I got to play Beta I would probably buy it, otherwise probably not.

Welcome to the world of business. You would not be surprised at how many different data points are out there. Preorders being a way to see the potential market value of a release is. The amount of time it take in an infomercial to convince some one to buy a product. If you think about it most of what we buy is sight unseen. I have never been able to walk into a Walmart and try a bottle of detergent right there. And software...demo's are in no way the rule...shareware though is making it's comeback in a new form at least, the limited trial.

There is allot out there you do not get to try...and there is allot less you get to try out thoroughly enough to know if you like it. But money does talk...or may be a lack of it...any one had a "New Coke" lately? If people pay, investors and capitol venture groups open their wallets. They do not care about when they get their money back...just that it happens. And if it doesn't happen...those wallets stay closed to any future similar endeavor. Simple as that...

I payed $60 (despite the tag, I'm sure they'll fix that eventually) because it was mechwarrior and that was the highest package they informed us about beforehand. I want mechwarrior and battletech games to be made so I voted with my money. I want those damn investors to see the numbers and then maybe it wont be so damn hard to find investors for battletech games in the future.

I'm a statistic for people who will pay money because it's battletech. I'm totally fine with throwing money at battletech for the sake of battletech being battletech.

More of a gamble than an investment. I don't expect to get anything in return for my money, but hey, if I do that is awesome. At the end of the day 120 for my favorite IP is nothing.

The devs can more effectively communicate with the masses for $120 than I could. Unless! Maybe I could rent one of those speakers like they had in the blues brothers.....Lady's Night at Mechwarrior Online. Tonight Only!

In my opinion, the devs need money to move the project forward, so they offer this cool thing called "Founder's Packs". You are basically investing your real money (albeit a fairly small amount, compared to "real" investors) into the game/developer, and for your small but extremely helpful cash infusion, you get a cool in-game toy with perks (or several, depending on your contribution level), and some in game perks; a couple of months of premium, and several million in-game dollars, equivalent to a much larger sum of real world money than you paid for your contribution. That money allowed the devs to pay some of their game related bills (salaries, equipment, office space), and show their bigger investors, that the game is sustainable, and that people are willing to spend money on a F2P game. This in turn eases cash problems all the way around, and the game can go on.

Go out and talk to the masses directly? how is that going to help the MWO dev team create a good product? Think of it this way, Piranha Games is spending money making this game (probably millions because it is hard to develop a game for less) and they are planning on releasing it as a F2P game. They have to make their money back somehow, so they will put in buy as you go stuff like premium accounts and special items.

By offering the founders program, they give people who know they are going to play a chance to help in the development of the game. By paying early and receiving a future in-game reward, players help Piranha Games pay off some of that money they spent on development. This means that they can spend some of that recouped money on further development without additional capital infusion from the company. They already expected to pay (and I am making up a number here) $8 million dollars to get the game going, which they expected to take say 2 years to recoup through in game purchases. This way they can spend an additional $2 million (I think they have made at least that in founder sales) on getting the game up and running without going changing their initial investment and expected repayment (they spent $8 million and would still expect to make it back in 2 years). By immediately reinvesting that money in development it wouldnt even need to be counted as additional investment,

Actually, it would have been better for MWO to start this on Kickstarters, at least then new people like me woudn't troll this board so much with questions like they are investing millions in gold mines shares; face it people, it's all about your good will and how much you want to invest into project like in Kickstarters; Look at Wasteland 2 (http://www.kickstart...land-2?ref=live) and Shadowrun Returns (http://www.kickstart...eturns?ref=live) games there , that games also didn't give much previews of them, and people still put in faith in old developers and invested into both projects that were one of most succesfull ones in kickstarters history, and I bet same thing would have happen with Mechwarrior if it started there.
In the end it's not like your playing a high risk party of all-in poker, it's about positive thinking and little faith into developers.

The founders pack just does not offer enough reward for the risk.
If I got to play Beta I would probably buy it, otherwise probably not.

Do you know when open beta will be? Do you know if you'll get a closed beta invite? Not likely, however those of us who have invested in the game so far by buying one of the founder's packages are assured early access come Aug 7, meaning before open beta, meaning still closed beta status. Now sure, you, I, or someone else may wake up tomorrow and get a closed beta invite, who knows when or if that'll happen, but if you aren't in game come Aug 7 you'll only have your skepticism to thank.

Regardless we must each decide for ourselves whether investing in a game we want to be a success and the hope of playing some minor part in it's development process is worth a cash investment. If you decide it's not best for you to invest at this time, perhaps even for good reason, then you must accept the consequences of your actions as I have mine. I may be 120$ poorer, but to me this is such a small thing if my feed back during early access can help make the reboot of this franchise even better. If my words aren't headed, hell, at least I got four extra mechs and some other shiny bits out of the arrangement.

I'm actually a proud backer of both those projects, and I am so glad they made and exceeded their goals.

Supporting the company and the idea.

I may not like MWO but if it flops no one is going to try again. but if it suceeds maybe I'll like the next one if it turns out I don't like this one.

same reason I support indie games

no i dont think so .....

its not even clear if we get free customisation or they build in some ....... like hardpoints "mechwarrior2"
allready some .... yell that they want only stock mechs ....

I SAY IF YA WANT ONLY STOCK GO PLAY MECHWARRIOR LIVING LEGENDS.............

+ over 1.5 nearly 2 years i paid for world of tanks ... premium account yeah i even got 2 premium tanks
only to get everything nerfed to ground YEAH i played german tech tree
bullshit russian devs

cause of all of this im very very carefull where to spend my money

i agree its great someone finnaly making another mech warrior game

but to many things are in the dark ...... its about 1.5 months till the early access starts and many things can chnge

120$...... i can get 2-3 fullprice games for that , not to forget that if they balance c-bill xp like world of tanks is doing since 1 year you need a premium to dont end up with negative c-bill when you play heavy/assault

and thats another i say 10 euro a month
+
not knowing what will be in the story maybe something like fire exec.(world of tanks) or premium ammo

if they go the same way

like i said at start im one of the idiots who want an madcat and im pretty sure it will get premium cause its awesome mech that everyone wants
