Plain and simple, developers have been lining up for years to make Battletech games and haven't been given the chance. The only reason that the franchise has been dead on the computer for so long is because the money men didn't think there was any profit in it. I want them to see that there is.

True.

Create a donation button and plenty people will put a coin in the slot. That is how people pledge their intention of also purchasing later.

I have customers who pay me £50 for a software I created, then buy it again for another £50 just to ensure I keep going with my work.

A very good friend of mine said, he paid around 100 EUR for hope. Is there actually a better cause?

I really don't understand how people can sit here and demand to try a product before they buy the product. Very few manufacturer's allow a consumer to try products before you buy them. You have to research, read up and use your best judgement. Personally, I think there is enough information out on this product to justify the founder's packs. I get paid tomorrow and I will be purchasing the Elite founder's pack, not because I don't want the Legendary pack, I simply cannot afford it with my other financial commitments. I feel that is legitimate. Not being able to "try before you buy" is not a legitimate arguement.

Can you try deoderant first? Can you demo a slice of pizza first? On a bigger scale, can you demo a house first, live in it for a few weeks to understand all the creaks and groans that it makes? How about a boat, can you demo a boat? We purchase things everyday without demoing them or trying them out first. All of you people that want to try before you put some money down; do you all demo every game you play? No, you don't because not every game comes out with a demo. Don't make it seem like you should have a right to demo the game before you put some money down, because you can't do that with the majority of other purchases in your life. Yes, I get that this is a free to play game. You don't have to purchase a founder's pack to play. Those of us that have and will purchase a pack do it for various reasons: to support the development house, to play the game early, to show developers that there are people out there that will pay to play f2p games. I can guarantee you that every person that has purchased a founder's pack has done so based on how the game looks at this time. They are satisfied that the gameplay and presentation are good enough or above their expectations to put money towards it. If this game looked like junk in screens, videos, dev updates, etc nobody would be putting money up. But this game will be a AAA-title, quality game. What do you get for free in life, other than a sunburn and death? Everything costs something, quit sitting there and demanding that you should be able to demo before you put some money down.

The entitlement that people emanate these days is sad. To feel you have the right to demand a "taste" of something before you "eat" the whole thing is disconcerting. If you don't want to purchase a founder's package for whatever reason that is fine, as long as that reason is not: "I need to see the game and play it first". Next time you go to buy a house, tell the current owners to move out for 2 weeks so you can demo the house. See how far that gets you.

All this feel good 'I vote with my money' talk is neat. But I really did it because I want my name in the credits...and I was intoxicated at the time. :)

Really it's not the Game that has put me off of Mechwarrior Online and made me to finally choose to pass it up it's the Asinine community since the founders packs came out.

It's great that so many choose to support the game and it's also great that the majority have done so quietly with out having to seek validation of there purchase on the forums .. posting like there God's Gift to the Gaming Community and Game Industry.
While anyone who hasn't or doesn't share there views or not really wanting to take the risk is taking the ''free ride''. is a welfare player, or has no money.

So good job guys you just cost PGI and Mechwarrior On line a Future Paying Customer and i probaly won't be the last.

Here is hoping the game can make it on your Super inflated Ego's and founder pack purchases :)

Both sides are to blame here. When founder packs came out we had a whole load off people that started topics about PGI trying to rip us off, how they could possibly have the guts to ask money for an unfinished product, how they could demand us to pre-order a game we haven't seen yet, how the founders are gullible morons and other negative and largely incorrect stuff about the founder packs.

The result? A huge influx off positive topics to counter the negative topics. It's simply human nature. You see something you stand for get attacked? Small chance you're gonna let them get away with it, so you're gonna make sure your side is heard as well. Then the other side tries to be louder by having more negative than positive topics and as a result you saw a topic about the founders pack pop up on an hourly basis.

this is the most i have ever spent on a game. but it also has alot of potenial for everything I want in a game. i dont spend money often so when i want something i can buy it
not in any particular order
1. very good lore/backstory(also that the game will progress side by side with it)
2. skill based fps.
3 team work based
4.objective based.
5. faction warfare so that grinding i do matters besides just grinding.(also ability to roleplay)
6. nice graphics from what ive seen.
7.competitive.
8. devs seem very passionate about the game.

If you think preordering this game is an 'investment' I weep for your retirement portfolio. Yes, you are a statistic, not the one you think but oh my, yes, you are a stat. This game MAY be worth the $120 Founder Package, it may not be. The simple fact is that the devs have not shared enough data to make an intelligent, informed decision. If you are in the closed beta, right now, you may have enough data to make the call; but even then you have to realize that the game is in flux. What they are playing right now in beta is not what will be on harddrives in a month and a half to two months. You are using wish-thinking and emotion to drive your purchase. That is the kind of 'investment' strategy that gets you into Enron, not Apple.

Exactly why I havent dropped any cash. I'd love to buy the $120 package, but I dont feel theres enough info. Nevermind that I cant seem to contact anyone through this website and despite filling out the beta app and being "pending" for a month now, I still show 22 of 23 questions answered with no way to resolve the issue. Feels more like a money grab to me. The videos look good, I'm excited, but low on info and getting low on patience given my history with mechwarrior and extensive alpha/beta testing experience.

I would rather drop money to a game that I have been waiting for then buy another console or pc game . Did subscription in EQ and EQ2 and also in WoW, having my costs be upfront is something that I rather like.

I can understand people who didn't buy into this game. They want tangibles. Since they are not in beta they don't get the tangible game. Sadly not every game will make it out of beta with out help. I saw this first hand with MPBT. We had a strong community that if given the opportunity and help from the devs we could have had an awesome game. I feel that with MWO we are given a second chance. The founders pack is my vote in whether the game gets made. We did not have the opportunity to support MPBT and show that it can be fun and a profitable enterprise and personally I want this game to succeed so that M$ and EA can see what they lost. My 120$ vote was well worth it. The mechs the founder title the extra cbills that was all a bonus.

Amen!

My wife of thirty years sat down with me... we are buying a brand new, top line desktop... and she told me to upgrade to the Legendary as "I'm sure you'll find a use for the extra mechs LOL"

Wife her again. So to Speak. But it's great to see that your Wife enjoys you playing a PC game. :)

I thought there was great value in the $60 deal. $80 of in game currency right off the hop covers more than what I paid. Then add a free 2 month sub and a free Mech (I didnt even know about the 25% boost at the time). All this for a game I am foaming at the mouth to play, yes please!

I've paid plenty for first access to games over the years and have played many that I have bought first access or collectors editions to, but times are a bit rough here and not sure I can atm.

It's nice to see the game coming back as I used to love even playing it on ladders in the early days of it, I'm forced to hedge I guess at the moment :)

Salute.

I guess I shall be digging my old joystick out it looks!

You typed all that text??? Let me try...
The Founders: A Real Reason
1) The company needs more money to finish the game, so they make this pre-order to get it.
2) We buy it because it's a good value and/or we want to support the resurrection of this one great genre.

People putting up millions on kickstarer to get a long dead franchise revived.

Wasteland!

I hear you man. Let the game dev fossils cry about losing revenue to piracy, Piranha is making cash even before releasing the game. PC gaming is not dead, it just needed a 21st century business plan.

Piracy does not hurt an MMO or F2P game at all.

Vanity, definitely my favorite sin :)

You sir have sold out for the wrong sin. May I suggest you try Lust? Or if you prefer you may have Gluttony (in the form of playing MWO for 12 hrs straight every day?).

As for me and why I opted in to buy a founders package.... I like mechs and this game looks to be a lot better than what WoT has shaped up to be over the last 2 years. The Lowe once cost 30$ and my clan bought me one. You NEED at least 1 premium vehicle to advance quickly in the F2P format. So for 60$ I get a couple months of premium, lots of in game cash and a premium mech? That's one HELL of a bargain. I notice the 120$ package would give me 2 mechs I don't want (jenner and hunback.... omfg sell that pos!) the same amount of in game cash and only one month more of premium.

I'm sure that with the other 60$ if I choose to spend it on this game I can get another mech slot or two and several more months of premium. If only there was a package in the middle of elite/legendary that gave you 3 months premium, 2 founders mechs and the same amount of ingame cash.....
