But think of the UI right now...it would need to have way better layout to organize.
Smurfys would suck as well, not a huge fan of weapon hunting on there.

Any given weapon might have 1 or more slots for an upgrade, you can input the upgrade it converts a medium laser to an intek laser, permanently. This could then replace the weapons modules systems entirely, which honestly make no sense, and still give you room to differentiate and specialize within the setting.

(Everyone would take the one shell model for FLD, though.)
Would also work with the idea of planetary influence on weapons' prices in CW. Lots of manufacturers means lots of small objectives on that IS map.

as long as its all balanced within itself....i.e. there is never any reason to pick one over the other, other than personal preference. im in 100%

I didn't look at your actual numbers though the point would be to hopefully to only let people make sidegrade trades.
So for lasers you could:
-increase RoF at the expense of either range, heat or damage
-increase Range at the expense of either heat, RoF or damage
I personally am opposed to letting people reduce the heat or up the damage of weapons but it would be theoretically possible if you got the numbers just right for it still to be a sidegrade not a straight up no brainer upgrade.
But basically when you look at that you realize that its just what the module system should be instead of the terrible L5 cbill sink vertical upgrade modules we have now adays. It sure would be a lot cooler and a fun fluffy cbill sink though if like you said you applied the modules directly to the weapon in your inventory and it became a Martell or Defiance laser.
I kind of love the idea of changing colors but I can see how some would take issue since it would make identifying the laser type visually annoying.

As far as Salvage- I think that would be 100% Amazing, but PGI seems to be on the fence about Materials as salvage instead of straight Cbills.
Balancing within themselves is my intention. (Current numbers are just placeholders, but they are meant to reflect drawbacks for any mechanical advantage.)

im just going off of MWTactics(RIP?). and also to some extent the multiplayer of Mass Effect 3.
there is a joy in the random draw at the end of the match when you get the toy you've wanted. rather than just..."ooo, that was a good chunk'o'bills....next match"

as an alternative i would argue for using the weapon module system for this sort of diversification, rather than the rather.... uninspired system we have now. and change the names of the modules, and lower the prices. as modules it keeps customization the same and not cluttering it with 15 varients of the same cannon, but allows for more specialization outside of the mechlab
rather than "AC10 range 5", name it "mydron Mk.4 AC10" for the range increase, or "Defiance m245a1 AC10" for a rapid fire burst model, ect. for ease of navigation in the module screen, alot more filters would be needed however. so a filter for range increases, filter for ROF increases, filter for others ect.
and weapons should only be able to accept a single weapon module

I would have liked to have seen these as modules, instead of the current modules which just promote boating

As mentioned it would have to be implemented in a user friendly manner that is not too overwhelming for newer players.
