The Black Knight at least would be a somewhat improved Orion for energy boating. The Grasshopper is just going to be a bad CTF-3D.

- Grasshopper (a great mech from the Battletech Introductory Box)
- Guillotine (slightly better than the Grasshopper and probably more common)
- Black Knight (very powerful mech in TT and iconic for the MW4 fans, but rare and with variants mostly identical)
- Lancelot (ultra fast heavy mech, more common than the other 3 candidates and with very different variants)
My vote would be for the Lancelot or the Guillotine.

1. BK has even less varied loadouts due to being pure energy spammer.
2. Even a bad CTF-3D is better than energy boating Orion. Remember that.

Having a head mounted missile slot is apparently a selling point?
BK would have higher mounted energy slots in the torso compared to the Orion which, while not great, is at least a niche it could fill.
The Grasshopper is basically shooting lasers out of its waist.

Missiles are just a nice perk, which the BK doe snot have. The same as....JJs. Oh yeah. Those. Also, your "high" mount energy? Might matter if it was Battlemaster high. Instead of mid 6-pack like on the GH, it would be Nipple level on the BK. Whoppty-freaking-do.
Also, as of 11pm PST, actually the GH was up by 6.

All valid points.
But the Guillotine is not one of the options given.

I'm actually more comparing what the Black Knight gives us relative to the Orion to what the Grasshopper gives us relative to the Cataphract.
Black Knight gives us an energy oriented Orion with hardpoints that aren't at knee height.
The Grasshopper is just going to be a bad CTF-3D.

In every media in which they have both appeared side by side, the grasshopper has had much bulkier arms and a much narrower torso than the black knight. Plus the grasshopper carries fewer weapons in the arms than the black night.
The black night has spindly little arms and a huge barrel chest.
The only times it had big arms was in MW4BK where they decided that anything spindly had to be replaced with boxy stumps (i.e. the hexagon on a swivel arms which replaced the marauder style omnipods on clan mechs,), and the MWDarkAge Clix game, which had massively divergent artstyle compared to the rest of the franchise. (which is the source for the "cool" looking black night BLK-NT-5H everyone keeps posting, which is from 3145, 93 years in future of the timeline.)
Also the Flashman is clearly superior.

Have to admit though, I am a sucker for arm shields. Even though they just make bigger hit boxes; sigh*.

heres the load out from sarana
THS-4T This Thanatos variant uses a lighter engine that reduces the top speed to 64km/h. It also replaces the extended range lasers with four Medium Pulse Lasers. It also carries the MRM-20, Guardian ECM Suite, and C3 slave of the standard Thanatos, but its main hitting power comes from the LB 20-X autocannon in the left arm. It mounts four jump jets, enough to cover 120 meters at a time. BV (2.0) = 1,760[5]
