There's a sound that accompanies those flashes too, like new target within sights.

But I've never noticed anything like that before.

You should forward this on to support@mwomercs.com and ask them about it.

That sounds like the "zoom" in sound, is it possibly related to that?

nah, it's a little different i think. I think the OP might be right. It's a subtle visual cue that no one ever seemed to notice. Perhaps related to being targeted by someone as someone suggested earlier. Perhaps put in when Betty used to tell you when you got targeted?

The white flashes is the RaDerp functioning, warning you that you broke a lock.

I learned about it the first day I bought it when it was released. Then it freaked me out. Then I realized what it was doing, and the little "Squee" that goes along with it makes me Squee as well. You WANT those flashes... and the more flashes, the more people that had eyes on you.

After watching some more, I am 99% sure it happens when an enemy puts you on target lock. I have had a few times where just running near somebody and I got the flash but nothing else happens.

Anybody else started noticing it, now that it has been pointed out? or are most of you still not getting them at all?

As others have said, the flashes are related to the radar deprivation module. It should occur when someone gets a lock on you, or maybe even when someone just targets you. Not 100% sure on when exactly the thing flashes, but it's surely related with radar deprivation, as i get it only with mech equipped with that module.

Actually, it's happening when the lock is broken - otherwise, it would happen before the missiles are incoming, not during their flight. =)

That is the effect of the Radar Deprivation Module. It also tells you: "HEY! SOMEONE IS LOOKING AT YOU! TAKE COVER!". Use this accordingly and the module is very much worth it's price.

wow, that's really neat. The fact that most of us thought it was a glitch of some sort just shows how much this game needs better explanations for some things.

The flash happens when you BREAK lock, not when one is put on you. I know this because there have been occasions where I was taking fire, and KNOW I was locked but no 'squee/flash' till after I got behind cover.
