I'm starting to think that the occasional LRM-reaming is not such a bad thing. Do I hate getting splattered by an endless pain train of LRMs? Yup. But it's almost always my fault for not paying attention when I got NARCed. It happens far less often than catching a dual gauss or AC40 through the eyeball, and at least the NARC has several hard and soft counters available that offer the possibility of a reprieve. The direct fire instagibs offer no such thing. Sometimes you just get unlucky, or make a small mistake at a bad time and pay big for it. Getting a NARC on target requires enough risk that there should be a pretty steep price to pay for letting it happen.

Top recommendation, ams. It can shoot down the narc. FYI

Also, I love my mediums when a narcing mechs somes around. Eat the narc and quickly stand behind cover. Most LRM pilots are not aware enough to stop throwing missles at you for the juicy narc bonus. thousands of lrms wasted from the enemy team. LOLZ

I respect all your opinions but for me every weapon or weapon system must have some counter-measure for balance purposes, i don`t see any for Narc and that is why i called it cheat . Domonecy sugested geting inside ECM envelope but what to do if there is no ECM in the team or is in the other side of the map. You all know that if isn`t below bridge or very very tall building you can`t cover successfully becouse LRM arc is nearly 90% angle. For me this is not ballanced well and all you can do is sitting helplessly and watching missles rain on you.

You will get the hang of it,everyone who puts in the effort learns how to handle the NARC of death situation.

These days I'm generally piloting a mech that has speeds in the 90+ kph range and I am very very rarely killed by LRMs (unless I have lost a leg but mainly it's the one legged issue that'll kill ya not the weapon that does you in)

First easy step is realize that the slower your mech is the harder it is to slip a salvo of LURMs.If you pilot a slow assault or heavy you need to proactive rather than reactive. What I mean is pay very close attention to enemy mechs that may be slinging NARCs around and try real hard not to be an easy target for them.LRMs may be capable of firing from 1km away and arcing over cover but a NARC must fly in a low predictable straight line from very close range.

Next is know the maps and where there are some deep cover spots that LURMs can't arc over.Once you know these spots try very hard to always be within 5 seconds of reaching one if the enemy is slinging loads of NARCs and LURMs.By far the most dangerous maps for facing LRMs with NARC support are Caustic Valley,Alpine Peaks and Tourmaline Desert (in decending order of pain)

Always keep in mind that a NARC has a very limited range (270m I believe) and is a MISSILE! anti missile systems can shoot down a NARC!

Also get some perspective.Pilot a NARC equiped chassis and see how a NARC works.Once you know how a weapon functions you will be better prepared to exploit any weaknesses it may have. Then pilot an LRM carrier.Learn how to pick targets as a support missile carrier and see what is and what is not effective cover from the shooting side of the equation.

The broader the knowlege the better the understanding.

Also,I strongly recommend finding a unit to join and playing with other organized players. You will have access to veteran player's experience and this will reduce the steep learning curve also it doesn't hurt to know that if you need AMS/ECM cover all you need to do is ask for it and the team will support you.

nerf em! nerf it all! nerf TW! nerf tactics! nerf all the systems! nominal all the nerfs!

Exactly.

Basically, this all boils down to a weapon that is dangerous. By "dangerous," I mean that it caused someone to get killed. That, by definition, puts it on the block to get hit by Paul's Football Bat.

If it has the potential to cause a new player to die before he even gets his first volley of LRMs off, then it needs to be nerfed. ESPECIALLY if he can't fire without stopping and zooming in.

If the mechs that could take AMS did take AMS....

LRMs would be totally useless. So, keep building your mechs to max your Alpha and neglect that AMS.

Seriously, though....

NARC warning from Betty would be nice. It is bad enough that these futuristic robots have such a narrow field of view. Apparently sensors can only see what your eyeballs can see. Me, I would put sensors covering my 6.

If you've ever played the TT game or read the books (or if you have) take another glance through, the era this all takes place is after a huge fall in technology. I'm supprised things are as forgiving as they are.

Ya'll should be glad the NARC's are as forgiving as they are.

In MW4 ALL UNLOCKED friendly missles would track the beacon...

That means every single missle in range would come at it, you didn't even have to aim, lock, or wait, just shoot LRM's straight in the sky.

Be glad they nerfed the hell out of it.

I wonder how many people who hate NARCs realize that if they had taken AMS it would have shot down the NARC? I'm assuming it is probably the same crew who hate LRMs but can't find room in their build for .5 ton AMS and a ton of ammo.

Well, two ams. Improved narc tends to make it through one AMS and still ruins your day.

Its ridiculous, you get Narced and everyone on the map within 1000m fire missles at you. Standing behind coverage doesn`t work becouse of the stupid LRM arc. Its literaly death sentence. Needs to be corected becouse it`s game breaker. There is no protection. I have tried powering down mech, doesn`t work either.

First off, it's only the people with LRMs that fire at you. Second that's kind of the way NARC works. What should it do instead?

As to the arc, again, what should it do? Be useless? BTW, find a tall building or break the lock and move at an angle.

As to powering down, that breaks the lock, but the LRMs land at the last known position....which is where your unpowered mech is. You have to power down, then up and then move. If you don't have the Elite skill, and they aren't far away, it won't work.

Bottom line, you offer nothing but bitching. How about a suggestion instead?

There's been several suggestions on the forums. But no interest in them from the devs has ever resulted. Clearly they think LRMs are fine.

I don't agree with that. I think LRMs are either too strong because of Narc, lack of viable cover due to high arc, and the half weight of Clan LRMs. Or they're too weak if you're trying to run them on your own. You do scrap damage because of ECM or you're on a city map where typically you can't get a good lock unless you have a narc light on your team.

I've made suggestions. But eh. Nothing has come of that.

That's the point of a narc my friend.

It's also a 3 ton piece of equipment with only 12 shots per ton. On a light mech that represents at least 10% of your weight, for support equipment. It needs to have a very obvious advantage or it will sit right along side the flamers in your mechlab.
