Extinct doesn't seem to be a reason for PGI to not include variants... heck the whole Highlander chassis is supposed to be ultra rare.

Highlander is rare, but not out of production. Extinct means out of production and either the specs have been lost to the IS, as was the case with ALL b and sl variants, or the company which manufactured it did not desire to produce the 'Mech (as was the case with the Pillager, HildCo only reintroduced the 'Mech when they had the advanced components to continue production of the 3Z variant. Even though the 1N, with its standard components, would require minimal retooling of the lines) or had the plans, but not the technology (as was the case with the Devastator DVS-2, but a downgraded 1D was put into production in 3036 so the lines could be retooled to the 2 in 3048 when the recovered technology had matured past the prototype stage).

Extinct means a 'Mech or variant is gone in the time period and there is no way to get one. Effectively extinct means their numbers are dwindling and once they are gone they are gone.

sl and b variants were only deployed by the Star League Defense Force and SLDF Royal Divisions respectively. They are considered extinct at this point in the time line.

The Clans may still have some in their Toumans, but even the Comguards do not field them.

TRO3039, p.258: "While the Crab assembly line was damaged heavily during the early Succession Wars, technicians on Northwind were able to keep the lines active as a refit and repair facility, using the parts manufactured by the remainder of the plant to rebuild many of the crippled machines. Though not every damaged Crab could make it back to Northwind for repair, enough did so that the unlocking of the Helm Memory Core allowed the remaining hundred or so (not including those hidden by ComStar over the centuries or those gifted to the Draconis Combine in the 3030s) to be refitted back to their original advanced armor configuration." TRO3050 indicates that the Helm Core discovery was key to allowing refits of the downgraded Crabs. So as of the Clan Invasion, the ComGuards, DCMS, and Clan Toumans should all have Crabs. CRB-20, CRB-27b, or CRB-27sl. Are they rare? Sure. But MW:O doesn't limit access to 'Mechs on their in-lore rarity.

Only the armor of the 27. Note it said nothing about weapon configurations. Configurations which either left with the Exodus (b variants, because to a man the surviving Royal Divisions left with Kerensky) or were destroyed (sl, and most of those left with Kerensky) The actual design specs for the b and sl variants are lost! You could make them with a custom refit, but Cosara Weaponries' factories did not actually manufacture them any more which was my point. b variant loadouts were Star League state secrets and died with it (thank Comstar for that one, they purged the records). Could Cosara reproduce the 27sl in 3049 based on historical records if they wanted to? Sure, but not with the original manufacture weapons and it appears they did not want to. Could they produce the 27b? No, because there were no records outside of Comstar to glean the information from. At this point in time all anyone knew about any b variant 'Mech was they had existed, nothing else. At the time more was known about the Exterminator than the b variants. At least the Capellan Confederation had the blueprints for those, even if they could not replicate the technology.

I have TRO: 3050, it is sitting right next to me on top of TRO: 3058, Master Rules: Revised Edition, and TRO: 3060.

There isn't going to be a poll for the light or mediums. The decision on them is already made. The assassin is out because it doesn't have the requisite time line appropriate number of variants. The Crab really doesn't have much difference between two of the time line correct variants either though. Dervish might be another option though. There isn't much left in the TRO 3050 with enough variants.

Phoenix Hawk is unseen - so it's a lawsuit with HG. Certainly a no-brainer to not include it.

HG doesnt own the name, just the image. MWO mechs look nothing like their battle-tech equivalents and in court that will hold up
Phoenix pack 2 should just say **** it and do it. we would pay gold mech monies for that ****.

Not about the image holding up in court. PGI's finances can not survive doing so and that is why HG has been so successful at it. They have the finances to drag things out until the victim screams for mercy.

I really like the look of the Crab, but looking through the variants theres no real difference in hard points. Of course, I wouldn't mind PGI taking some liberties in cases like this. Since they are all laser boats and you can essentially make them all from the same variant, making up a variant with a ballistic in the arm or some SRMs wouldn't bother me.

Awesome design is awesome. Also it would be the first S shape legs in the game.
Where is the cockpit on that thing?
