Someone not-quite-important once said a GTX 660 would handle the game: An R7 265 is a smidgen moar, trading price for watts.

The lack of a ~$30 CPU cooler pretty much means you never get anything meaningful out'a the Intel Turbo, but at lest you sprang for 200 extra Hz.

$5 for the intake fan, and it's not really quiet; The case is crap, and the PSU is only Bronze; 28.5A out'a 40 on the 12V rail.

I'm tellin' ya': Save up some extra scratch …

When the Es first showed up, some thought a 90mm CPU cooler would cut the mustard. I have a 120mm, still, but with this case, I don't think you'll get all 5GHz out'a it …

Saved ~$4 with that fool Seagate …

I spent $20 to get a USB 3.0 patch on the case, and has a thing about video cards longer then 11.1"; I spent another $26 on the PSU to be Gold Plus and big enough for the R9 280X, which was ~$41 moar expensive then the nearest GTX 960 that could get by on a Rosewill CAPSTONE-550…

Or you could spend another $30 on this one PowerColor R9 290, on the same PSU …

It would seem the radiator will fit on the aft exhaust, and the displaced fan could go to the front as an intake; I didn't chose the Asus I like for it's heat pipe, and I can't really explain why …

Just like yesterday, I committed to this case too soon, so that when I went looking for an alt card/ PSU combo, card length became a price issue.

After having owned 2 OCZ SSDs, I will never deal with that headache again. Both of them died prematurely. Support wasn't all that bad (about average) but they've had some pretty major QC issues.

Let's face it: if you don't own an AMD FX 9xxx or plan to OC your FX 8xxx to something like 5 GHz, plan to install a dozen drives, a full-fledged watercooling circuit and other stuff, you will be fine if you think ~150 - 200W of your PSU will satisfy your system - aside from the GPU. Next step would be to take a look at the power consumption of your GPU and, ofc, the spikes under full load which are to be expected.

So, that#s where I can't follow you. You're pairing a Tahiti XT with a 750W PSU which is roughly good enough to power TWO of this cards in your system and, on the other hand, the thirsty Hawaii-GPU is supplied by a 550W GPU?
Don't take me wrong here, even a R9 290 is easily "fed" by a PSU with 550W maximum power (if it is a modern design which provides a large portion of this power on the 12V-rails), but I can't understand the system behind your decisions.

Finally... if someone invests a large sum in a new PC, especially in parts which require some serious power supply, I wouldn't be cheap when it comes to the PSU. Get a modern PSU with a layout based on DC-DC, which improves voltage stability. For example, active clamp designs from FSP are cheap and easily obtainable on the market. You get a modern PSU which saves you some money and internal heat (which would've to be dissipated by additional fans) and doesn't cost you a large sum. Especially with GPUs like Hawaii, powersavings are an issue. 5% of 400W are 20W - thats almost a small lightbulb or could light your whole room if your lighting is based on LEDs. Over time, it amounts to $$$.
80 and 80+ bronze are really just old designs which nobody needs anymore. A good and cost-effective Silver-design would be as low as I would go if money is such an issue.

P.S.: Arctic Silver 5 is "an all-time classic", but severely outdated. There are better options if you mistrust the thermal grease delivered with your cooler. Cheap options would be for example the Arctic Silver MX 2.
Take a look for youself :)

The Lepa 700 was the first Gold Plus to meet the 12V requirement, when sorted by price, and "filtering" for a positive review

Note the outrageous overclock, put in to pad the safety margin. -_-

I stopped doing these images 'cause no one ever read them. <_<

I wanted to put in the this Corsair 450 PSU, for $30, but alas …

I believe the cooler will clear the video card, as there's this PCI-E x1 slot in front of the x16 …

Feel free to add an intake fan, or two. ;-)
