There is a certain... etiquitte that happens betwixt two AS7 pilots on the field of battle. This behaviour is unexplainable. Lately, as an Atlas pilot, I've noticed that on the battlefield; when two Atlas' face each other, they seem to stop to acknowledge that both of them are there at the same place at the same time. Other pilots sometimes tend to stop and watch the ensuing behaviour. After their few seconds of acknowledgement, an epic brawl ensues, and on more than a few occasions I've seen people stop in their tracks to watch the fight betwixt the two Atlas'.

It's probably a very stupid discussion topic, but I'd like to know opinions on as to why this phemoninon happens. I want some clever, possibly logical explanations for this behaviour between the titans of the battlefield.

Perhaps both pilots are confused the other one can see him, what with ECM suppose to be making him invisible and all....

I don't pause when I see other DDC pilots, if I do, its because I'm lining up an alpha strike on his left torso.

Or the right and trying for the sweet sweet silence of disabled ballistic on all other Atlases. Lining up my torso weps takes time yo.

Used to do this all the time in Team Fortress 2 when playing as a Medic and happening across another lone enemy Medic.

They pause long enough for both of them to say "Hulk smash", then duke it out

When in my D-DC or my (F)Atlas, and i catch a glimpse of an enemy Atlas, My instinct goes, "Yes! Worthy Prey!!!" And I lumber off after it. to see who the Alpha Dog is.

I do the same thing against every "Meta Whine" Mech. You cannot be the top dog if you cant beat the boogieman! ^_^

Maybe its a bad habit from the Closed Beta?

back then i always attacked the Atlas - first - no matter how many foes were around me.

If I'm in my atlas, I get focused down all the time, no matter what's on the other side :(

I think it's because everyone likes to relive this moment. I imagine everyone suddenly running into an Atlas likes to say "My God - I need fire support"

http://youtu.be/3CWr3ZUQJeo?t=57s

It's a very weird phemoninon, that's for damn sure.

Actually this happens these days when you turn a corner in a medium or even heavy and stare down a direwolf's main canons all lined up. You know its gonna hurt and you know you have to get out of there, alpha and bail.

Try running a non ECM Atlas. Really, it works!
Its almost like being invisible sometimes. Although others see you, the fact that they can target you seems to confuse players enough to shoot someone else instead. :D

Oh yep - that is indeed working - last time i did drive an Atlas DDC - i have seen multiple "TAG" pointers - and i thought
OH? Freeze - Don't Move.... but those ******** did shot anyhow - i really need a white flag - as cockpit item.
The Sky went black than it did fall unto my Atlas and everything from hip upwards went from green to nothing in less than 4 seconds.

It's a recognition of a worthy foe, like two knights catching sight of each other across a medieval battlefield, brandishing their standards, and charging to do battle.

Anyone who still pilots an Atlas these days is a hardened assault jock. Many of us have been grinding mechs to powder since closed beta, and through thick and thin we have stayed in the cockpits of our 100 ton death machines. No 6x PPC Stalkers, pop-tarting Highlanders, super agile Victors, or huge alpha Dire Wolves will dislodge us from our warhorse. We continue to plod across the battlefield, stalking our prey, ambushing the weak and unprepared, and punching holes in the enemy lines.

The sight of another Atlas pilot on the battlefield is a rare one. So many other mechs have tried to knock the king off of his castle. The meta has moved far past us, and there are newer, shinier horses for everyone to gallivant around on. Still, we persevere. Veteran war dogs dedicated to doing the impossible; tanking the enemy team and grinding them into powder at close range.

Unless, of course, the other Atlas is an LRM boat. Then I just laugh at the peasant in knight's armor and show him what a real warrior can do.

There's a similar moment between my Battlemaster and Atlases I've noticed.
It's a "wait is that really an Atlas?" and I think the other guy is thinking "Is that a battlemaster... the 1G no less?"

And then the melee ensues... me trying to get behind him and evade his AC20 and him trying to spread the damage from my lasers.

I do love my Battlemasters. I even went so far as to put the SRM6 back onto my stock-weapons 1G. It's such an enjoyable challenge, especially when I kick the tar out of a meta Dire Wolf in a mech that requires 5 weapon groups to use effectively.
