Seeing as we already had the option to play certain game modes and the wait time was trivial, and the matches were as balanced as they are after this change I don't see where this "fair bit of reworking" would be needed.

I would imagine that if they simply turned the exclusion option back on without changing much of anything then it would still make matchmaking a hassle for those who don't mind playing another game mode if the matchmaking is more balanced as a result, making the change not very worthwhile, and this is also assuming that it would be as simple as adding the exclusion option back in which I doubt is the case.

i think this is a good thing, one thought i just had, it has the same effect as random maps...when you know you're only going to play assault, you bring a mech build for that playstyle, if you might drop into conquest, you're going to think a little harder about how you build your mech, and you might want some more speed to get around to points a little better...

just saying, might help the light and medium numbers go up a bit in the queue

It won't help lights and mediums at all.

It really would be as simple as reverting the changed code. It isn't like they would have to restart coding from scratch to do so.

My issue really is Assault mode, I loath that mode since they put turrents in since they removed a VIABLE tactics for lights, now there are LRM guaridans that cut off half of some maps from light pilots. I like to get in your backs and its hard to do when the turrets are pusring LRM fire into you. In a light it does not take much.

I DO NOT care to play Assault or Conquest, I CARE to play Skirmish. When I group with my regiment different sotry. When I solo drop I do not want to be FORCED to play modes I have not had to choose in the past.

A simple exclusion criteria is not hard to ask for. It was in the game before today.

Its hard enough playing lights at this stage of the game. We do not need any more frustrations.
now this i can agree on. And i do sympathize with the light pilots that have to deal with such things. BUT... whats going to happen when they re-institute knock downs and light mechs that (as of right now) take advantage of no knock downs and sit right under Assaults because they can and cant be seen there? Guys that have been here from day 1 of beta will remember the days of knock downs and how differently the lights and fast mediums pilots had to play. Now most lights and mediums do not fear much because they can get up in your face or under a large mech that cant see them, and there is hardly any repercussions.

And then you have the newer players that are here now that have never had to play with knock downs that will SWEAR TO QUIT because this new/not so new mechanic will once again be added back into the game at some point. If light cant deal with running from LRMs and having to keep moving, Im sure they will not be able to deal with knock downs once its back.

The problem, Yoseful, is that Knockdown is a needed component of this game(this coming from a light pilot who, admittedly, played during closed beta and remember how much better pilots of light pilots were at actually piloting because of it).

This change to Match maker, however, is not a needed change. The inclusion of selective mode play was a great thing for this game after they added skirmish (to give those who wanted to play team deathmatch a mode it needed from the start) to allow people to maximize their play time by allowing a choice in what modes they want and don't want to play.

See, the problem with these polls about 'Would you give up X for better matches?' is that, on face value, it is easy to say 'Hell Yes!' to it because you don't really get the chance to see both how they propose to implement it nor the ability to fully evaluate the ramifications of such changes. They rely entirely too much on gut reaction to what sounds great without any chance of real logical discussion and discourse about the system as will be implemented(and not just the concept of a system).

What I'm wondering is how it would affect the matchmaker itself if that happened though.

Considering that this is a coding change with the match maker, the way to 'turn it back on' would be to push the files that constitute the previous version of the Match Maker back out to the live clients.. thus it would have the same functionality of what we had yesterday.

So, the thought behind this is, If we make people play other modes it will balance the games more.....
This is something I rather doubt, You draw from a pool of players, my bet is, in the pool, no matter how you slice it, the % of each ELO ranking remains the same.

So, as long as matchmaker uses an ELO weight system, nothing changes no matter how big the pool is.

And so far, my experience shows this to be the case.

A secret ballot among a select few insiders on a non MWO related site is hardly 'the community' voting for it.

i understand why some dont want to play some modes or maps. Please dont think im bashing you or anyone for that. But once CW is in full swing, you and others do realize that CW is not going to be JUST Skirmish mode right? And if people are willing to drop out of game modes and maps in CW because they dont like those modes or maps, how will that effect the game? Its will hurt your team, your ranking and the faction you play for. For what? All because people ONLY want to play what they want to play?

You can't trod on basic gamer freedom. It's just a fundamental no-no. People getting into CW know what they're in for, so that's a different story.

Then that would make the whole change pointless, I was assuming that wasn't going to be a consideration, or at least not when it hasn't even been a full day since the patch.

EDIT: LOL SO MUCH FOR THAT

The problem is this game is geting less and less light friendly. Conquest and Assault modes have had mechanism's instituted to take away from the lights ability to preform well. I am sorry but the LRM's taking out the legs of moving lights is not much you can do with when it's range is half the dang map.

I will gladly take Knockdowns over the current lagging to hell and rubber banding we have when mechs run into me.

The problem is with the understanding of a longer wait time, I should be able to pick the mode I wish to play,. Being forced to play in modes that I have not wanted to play in over a year is just not enjoyable. 15 matches today only 4 in skirmish.

If you don't like the new system you have several ways of making that known, without breaking the rules.

1. Make your frustration known!

Create a post about it on the forums. Preferable in an already existing thread if there is one.

2. Stop buying!

If you are buying MC or mech packages or whatever, stop doing so. You can combine that with 1.

3. Stop playing!

If you can't get yourself to play in an unliked gamemode, no matter what, then stop playing MWO completly until this is changed. You can combine this with 1. and 2.

What is not an acceptable solution, is to try to force your will, by griefing other players.

Bargained Well and Done!

I shall not spend money on or play MWO until this feature has been removed. I will make my displeasure know in every thread concerning this issue.

And I will not point out that PGI started the griefing first by using a poll with such low participation to make a change which effects all players.

Well, those of us who don't like this new feature have been told how to properly protest it. I for one, will do just that.
