Wel the poll seems to be going about Half and Half with the yes having a little bit of an edge. I My guess is this is NOT the slam dunk that PGI thought they had.

Easiest fix just put in another check by the user to either go Any game mode or back to the way it was and you pick the modes you want.

Rather funny how no one was complaining about any of the modes, why is that you ask? Because we could pick which ones we wished to play. If you did not like one, well you could avoid it.

I hate assault for the simple reason is maps like Forest Colony, River City, Caustic valley, half the map is unusable to me due to the LRM's of doom.

Also this is really not helping the ROFLStomps. Whether it be close ELO or not, they are still happening just as much. But why the hell you use your W/L record to make your ELO in a team based game just drives me nuts.

8 drop sso far with only Skirmish picked and only once on skirmish!!!!

Put it back and give us the option to choose what we want to play,. Forced maps I do not have a problem with I really do not. Forced Game Modes are making my experience horrendous.

If you understand voting statistics, 4% is nothing. In other words the community is split evenly, and the decision that causes the least strife should be chosen. Forcing someone to wait a few seconds for their preferred game mode will indeed create less strife than forcing someone to enter into an unwanted game mode.

This was a "PGI" decision. The community voted for it to be put in game.

So much Whine around here....

People whine that they have to wait so long to find a match.
People whine about the stomps.
People whine about not wanting to play certain modes.

Seriously wish MWO had an age requirement to play, getting sick of all the childish behavour.

The problem with such a close poll is that PGI can't win on this one. Either way half the community is going to be unhappy.

Therefore, they need to step outside the poll and ask what is going to have the least negative impact and go with that solution.

Something they should consider though is how many players don't visit the forums and aren't part of the debate. The reason this is important in this case is for determining which solutions provides a less noticeable change. Let me explain this part.

Take ELO, honestly if you didn't read this forum and didn't know they were making changes to tighten up ELO would you have noticed any change in gameplay? Even knowing about it, Do you really notice it?

However, someone logging in last night and finding he can no longer chose not to play Conquest is going to notice really quick something is different and if they don't like the change they are going to be very unhappy.

Therefore going back to my original statement, it is pretty obvious that removing the option to pick your game mode will have the largest negative impact. Therefore PGI just needs to bring back that option and chaulk it up as an experiment that didn't go so well. I can guarantee you they will get alot less negativity doing this than leaving it in.

I really think they should keep it as it is for now. Any change is always met with complaints. Hell, people complain even when they give away free stuff.

And age has nothing to do with it. We have some of the biggest and oldest babies right here in our forums.

I play all modes so either system of "chosing" modes is fine for me personally.

Did the change to MM help? Only played 21 games after the change, so far based on that very limited sample te conclusion is: rofllolnope. Just came from a 12-0, one of the worse Ive ever seen. Enemy had no chance. If that was a fun game for anyone on the receiving end theyve got to be huge masochists.
12-3, 12-2 and worse is exactly as non-rare as it was before,

So why do you post then?

I honestly thought this change was going to be for the Group Que only. People seem to equate ROFLStomps with ELO advantage/disadvantage. This is not the case which makes this change really a moot point. ELO in this game in and of itself is a flawed stat that the player really has little control over. The problem is this, If people want this change, put in the option such as we had before. If people want to play the mode they select put it like we had it before. We had this option already. But now I am forced to play modes I have no desire. I am now up to 10 matches with only skirmish selected and 9 of them have been either assault or Skirmish, I am sorry but this is killing me. II do not want to play assault or conquest in the solo PUG drops

I believe Russ understands this. It's the very last sentence in the poll post:

Since the game was active for so long with the game mode hard selection in place I think it is only fair to the community that the vote needs to come out with a strong majority again.

I post because I enjoy discussing Battletech and MWO. Turns out that the whining gets in the way of that though, which is why I brought it up.

You're in luck though - looks like the collective QQ of the minority (the original poll had 50%+ in favor, right?) has worked. The game voting system is going back to the old way.

Awesome. Now people will see that they can get their way if they cry hard enough.

The reason that it was put in was because people were complaining about the ELO differences in the Group queue. If you read the CC post, the ELO difference went from 250 to 160-180 in the group queue and had no difference in the solo queue. What this change showed is that people were more concerned about not playing specific modes than having "competitive" fights.

It comes down to what is more important, less ELO difference or choosing a game mode? For the solo queue you could argue that the change should be reversed since it had no impact but for group queue it should remain if lower ELO spread is the goal and it leads to more competitive matches. For the group players that really hate a specific mode use private matches or solo queue with the hard exclusion. As it stands right now the group queue does not have the population to support more competitive matches AND game mode exclusions but it appears that the solo queue can support those limitations.

As do i, however if the cart is not broken do not try to fix it. If we wanted to play ANY mode well guess what we could by selecting all three. But instead of keep it that way and finding the root of the problem "ELO Calculation" they forced this change on a vast majority that did not want it because it was already in the game.

The Original thread was not off by much than this vote. , (I honestly do not know).

Once again if we wanted to play any and shorten up the match times then we could have done that before yesterdays patch.

Fix ELO to actually be based off of more than your Win Loss record and then you will see MUCH BETTER games

I can see this for the group que, no reason to have changed the solo que. I honestly thought it was for the group only que until I logged in yesterday.

Yes it's dead:

Maybe now they will fix the route of the problem i.e. Match Maker.
