The most recent poll shows a pretty even split between keeping and discarding the new Voting System for the MM but once one takes out the percentage of players that do not have a problem with a certain game more and don't have a strong desire to avoid it out of the Keep It votes then we see a significant portion of players that hate a game mode hate it enough to never want to see it again no matter the cost.

So instead of talking about MM and what can be done to ease it's load let's instead collect what players don't like about certain game modes and what you would like to see changed or reexamined.

Please post your thoughts and opinions, discussions are welcome! Personally I am not in strong opposition to any game more but I would like to see the turrets in Assault reexamined as well as the cap times for Conquest.

Update: Appears my assumptions were wrong on the cause. Looks like a Pre-Game lobby that showed the map and mode and let you pick your mech would alleviate some of the negativity to the voting system. Though for 3x4 modes would likely mean picking up to 4 of the same weight class.

The Combination of random map + "random" gamemode is really awful. You now end up even more often in Situations, were you have a huge disadvantage because of your Mech/loadout.
And the teamplay hasnt improved the slightest, so i think its a lose-lose situation.
No gamemode is bad by itself, its just the randomness.

I personally ALWAYS play ANY mode. But I voted against the system in place for 2 reasons:

1) I understand the frustration of taking your Direwhale and getting stuck in Conquest (or your Locust and getting stuck in Skirmish)
2) I would never equip Cap Accelerator if I wasn't playing on Conquest only

It isn't that I personally hate one mode over another (do think some need work), but some mech builds work better on one mode and not on another, if your going to get stuck with a lotto of modes, then a mech per mode selection should exist, not to mention some polish given to the modes to make them more favorable in regards to what people don't like about them.

I've already wrote a thread an hour ago about it... so let me sum up what I hate about these 3 modes (some more than others).

1) Skirmish - it's boring. It might be the most simplistic, but it's generally mindless. It can't be fixed.

2) Assault - "capping" is boring. Turrets are annoying. What's worse is that capping gets you nothing reward-wise.

3) Conquest - Spending over a minute to cap just one point is simply crazy. It plays too much like Skirmish inevitably. Rewards are worse than Assault or Skirmish.

All of them have flaws... some can be improved and are somewhat fixable. Skirmish is what it is.

How about a vote for most hated game mode.

Coquest objective is just....there really isn't one, why does the other team leave when I get more oil.

Have 1 central point that needs to be held for x points maybe have 4 spots for mechs to stand on all in a structure that's arty/air strike proof. 1 side objective that does something like activates some turrets that target enemy team. yada yada, you know actually take over a base.

My thoughts:

Skirmish is boring, but it's the nature of TDM mode - nothing can be done about it.
Conquest needs faster cap times and better rewards for capping.
Assault needs faster cap times and possibly some tweaks to turrets (not entirely sure about the latter).

Conquest plays like a skirmish, Assault plays like a Skirmish....why play any more but Skirmish? Atleast in Skirmish there is no other objectives to fool the players with, therfore, the players focus on killing and less on thinking that they can accomplish the objective.

And yeah, Conquest, I hate the cap time on the posts...Plus, conquest is always won by the team that just clumps up and goes Skirmish mode on the enemy team......only the fools think they can win by capping the posts.......but it doesnt matter if its 749-98 and hte 98 pt team has 9 mechs vs the 749pt team's 0....guess who wins?

Perhaps Conquest could be made to be the "respawn" game mode, where its based on the cap points and not on the number of mechs killed or left. Then maybe it would be a bit more fun and objective based.

Assault, those turrets are awful tough.....I sat in front of one once and unloaded into it with I think my Victor, it had like 2 ERPPC and an AC10....took like 6-7 volleys from each gun to kill it....capping the base seems mostly like a suicide run due to those turrets. They pack a decent punch to, lasers and LRMs...

I don't hate any one mode. I hate being on a conquest mode while in an assault mech (and sometimes our group leader with have all selected unkowningly so we are caught off guard.

If I am dropping conquest, I prefer to have a mech more suited to the speed needed for my playstyle. I don't grief quit matches though, I'll tough it out till next time.

Indeed, if you could set what modes a set of mechs you selected are able to do (would be nice for map allowance as well) it would be far more tolerable, give me my conquest mech, or the one I built for assault, or even the one setup for skirmish based on what I chose, not my skirmish on a conquest which I would prefer a completely different mech/loadout.

Ideally you could even accomplish this by adding a allowance checkbox list to each mech for what modes and maps you would find acceptable for its current build. Then have a selection list of your 3 or 4 choice mechs for matchmaker to choose from.

Hmm hating is too strong a word in my case. And sending ahead my experience is based exclusively on the solo queue.

I prefer Assault since it is the oldest of the gamemodes. I prefer it over Skirmish since there is purpose of defending the base that still has to be fulfilled, since basecaps will happen even with the turrets in place if the whole team walks too far from the base while trying to avoid the enemy at the same time. But the strategies involved in Assault are not too complex so you can still manage things using chat.

I prefer Assault over Conquest because conquest requires a level of coordination in the team that just isn't doable via chat thus in the Solo Queue it mostly follows the same well known plan every match which get's quite boring pretty quick.

But I don't mind playing conquest or skirmish if it is on occassion thus I was fine with the game mode voting. And for the short time it was there I personally found it had a positive impact on my matches and the search time. I had several 12 -8 and closer matches (which I usually only see on occasion once a week) and the average wait time was halfed for me.

I don't like assault mode because gameplay tends to be more static than the others.

I notice a large portion of these issue could be resolved with selecting a mech after seeing the map and game mode, although that would most likely make ELO and tonnage matching between sides really complicated.

I really just don't like assault on the smaller maps. If you are trying to avoid turrets on maps like forest colony or river city, a large portion of the map is lost.

I also don't like the fact the game mode is called assault when there really is no designated attacker actually assaulting anything, but that's another issue entirely.

It used to go by a different name. People complained because the second objective had nothing to do with said name.

Humor us, but what was its name supposed to be?

I don't mind any of the three all that much.

What I hate is not being able to drop into a mode with a mech I've optimized for it. i.e. I don't want to be in a light in Skirmish, or in a Dire Wolf for Conquest.

That said, here's some problems with Conquest:

PROS: Encourages speed, promotes situational awareness, has room for role warfare.

CONS: Paltry rewards, excessive cap times, standing on a square is uninteresting and dull, merry-go-round mentality isn't enjoyable to everyone, missed other opportunities,

Make it about territory control. Score the teams by how many grid squares their team owns, forcing battle lines to develop and mechs to spread out and defend territory.
