So I broke 3.2 K/D in my Dragon (First time I have done that in any mech. There's just something about it that works for me.), and started noticing something. When piloting it and spectating, I am now consistently seeing players who can't aim, fail to press "R" and target enemies, wander aimlessly, make dumb decisions, and seem to have no idea in general what they are doing. I can do everything right, deal over 1000 damage with six kills, and my team will often fall apart and still lose, despite me practically doing the work of half a team by myself. That's an extreme example, but you get the picture. I'm seeing a huge increase in, um, "questionable skill" when spectating after crossing the 3.0 mark.

So my question is this: Does the matchmaker balance the teams based on your skill with individual mechs? I was under the impression that it just took into account your over-all skill level, but after seeing what I have been seeing for the past few days, I'm starting to wonder...

I usually hover around a 2.20 KD overall, and have not managed better than a 2.60 in any of my other mechs, individually. I have learned to expect having to carry a little with them, but not like I have been having to with my Dragon.

So, thoughts?

Welcome to mwo, where stats and elo are meaningless and dont provide anything in game.

It took you this long to notice this, or did you think 3.2 was leet enough to critise other people openly ?

Elo isn't determined by KDR, KDR has no influence on anything in the game at all.

Elo is determined, mostly, by your win/loss ratio, as each match the system gives your team and the enemy team odds of winning, Elo boosts or drops are decided by what the computer predicted vs the final outcome. Predicted to win and do, no boost. Predicted to lose and do, no drop. Predicted to win and lose, drop. Predicted to lose and win, boost. That's it, your personal performance has no influence on that and your KDR isn't important at all.

Not at all. I have only middling results with some of my other mechs. I know a lot of my success is due to careful builds using good chassis. I try to stay on top of what's good, currently, in order to stay competitive.

Yes, but the question is: Is this done individually PER MECH. That's what I'm asking.

No...you have an Elo Per class, not per chassis or per variant

Ugh, figured I might get this. It looks like with a certain mech with which I am doing particularly well, I am being paired with much more inexperienced players. Inexperienced. New. Not ZOMGTHESEGUYSSUCK. It's an honest question as to if the matchmaker takes individual mech stats into consideration instead of just your overall stats, based on something I observed.

Ah, makes sense because this is my first mech in the Heavy class. Thanks, finally a strait and useful answer!

I do believe it's per chassis type, Light, Medium, Heavy, Assault, but I can't promise that for certain. I do know that my WLR is almost identical in all chassis types and that I tend to see the same players regardless of my chassis type, I can see them while in Lights, Mediums, Heavys or Assaults, Mechs I've long ago Mastered or brand new Mechs I haven't ever touched before, like when I got my EBJ and Exec. Which leads me to believe it is by chassis type, not specific Mech or variant.

Same ...

In fact someone who focus on cap and finish all his matchs with 100 damage and 0 kill but a cap win will have a higher elo than someone like you ( and lots others ) who focus on kill mechs for win ( well this way provide a win in all game mode if cappers don't know ).

And thats why the MM put lots of useless cappers in your team and you have to get 1000 damage and 6 kills for your team win xD.

Yes it takes into account your mech class skill level. Lights / Mediums / heavies / assaults. Atleast that's what I have read previously, and it seems to hold true for me, I see way higher skilled players in all of my mech classes aside from heavies. Which are my worst mechs by far.

Its not like he called anyone out by name, take a chill pill. Nothing wrong with shedding a light on his experiences with crappy players.

Maybe all the unskilled manuvers are from the cheaters who were caught finally coming back and trying to learn how to play? x)

Could be any number of reasons. Low sample size, group/solo queue, time of day, build change, or your hidden Elo changing. Your win loss ratio and Kill death ratio can both go up, while your Elo trends downward. Just depends if you're winning the right games or not.

The better you are the more the matchmaker expects you to carry. This sucks especially when you are trying to level a new mech with a less than optimal build.

Definitely not. They had to quirk the arse off of the Dragon to make it playable. Anyone who piloted a Dragon before the quirkening was either inexperienced or suicidal. :P

Tell me about it. Trying to elite some chassis makes my head hurt.

No. Truth is we dont actually know what pgi uses at this time. All we have is guesses based on previous statements. They could have changed (added and / or removed) criteria at any time and not have, nor had to have, informed us.

Especially possible when you consider they have announced upcoming elo and mm changes.

So if a poster comes along and acts like they know ... they dont. They are guessing. Partially correct maybe, but again, no one knows for sure.

So take the guesses with a grain of salt.

If the K/D ratio is all you're worried about, I dont want you on my team.

Wankers like you watch guys like me take all the fire and pick and choose when you return fire unopposed. There is a term for that.....

The wide range of skills in the [average] makes the better and worse players suffer the most. About 6 months ago I was that mech in the back trying to snipe with 1 erllas and getting told how bad I was. Now I am the guy up front getting in the top 3 damage watching the mass of 600m chainfire no target lock etc etc try to eek out 100 damage, and when I die I fight the loosing battle of politeness.

What is a real shame is that the upcoming change to BattleValue will not affect the MM. I also am tempted to make an alt account that is never played in group que so that my w/l stays as close to even as possible.
