Public Play = Solaris?

Well, it is, isn't it? It certainly isn't MW objective mission style, at least at the moment. There's been a lot of discussion on how the modes are all basically a skirmish. And I'd tend to agree- Assault and Skirmish are very similar, and while base captures do happen occasionally it's ultimately still a skirmish with gimmick mechanic. Conquest is a bit better since it usually has more tactics involved, but again, it doesn't make sense from a MechWarrior point of view. Anyway, improving the modes is another discussion.

But I have the solution for it making no sense!

Rename public play to Solaris!

Suddenly everything makes sense. This whole time, we thought the maps were too small to represent real battlefields... but they never were! They were special arenas set up to represent different environments!

Add in the crowd cheering from... uh... the crowd stands which I'm sure are hiding somewhere, a bit of Fisher, maybe a betting mechanic in a separate mode... yes? Fixed? :D

I'm joking btw. But it seems public play is much more like Solaris than anything else. :P

Yeah, really...the current maps feel more like solaris arenas for sure. MW4 Solaris arenas were just about as large as the maps in this game....

Mektek mod made maps that actually felt like battlefields...some junglish map with a base in the middle, THAT map took an eternity to run across, especially in a Behemoth packing the smallest engine.....that same Behemoth could run across all 8 maps in this game in the same itme it took to run across that map in MW4.

And heck, alot of the SP mission maps were bigger then MWo....

We definitely need a Solaris Arena as a part of the CW. Teams and individuals in several areas with the different maps and spectator modes is a strong immersion element for this game. I seriously hope PGI will think about getting this in motion ASAP.

What we have now could be described as a 12v12 Solaris, yes.

What many of us would like to see is a 24 (or 16, or 8) mech Free-for-all mode as well as 4v4v4v4v4v4 Lance mode, etc.

This can be done to an extent in private matches, but not fully.

Pull in 24 mechs and go at it free-for-all and the match ends when one 12 man "team" is eliminated. There could be any number of mechs left alive on the other 12 man "team" still trying to fight.

The solaris I want is a free for all. Bonus points for announcers/crowd noise.
