It's a PC Game distribution/social hub.

http://store.steampowered.com/

It would effect MWO by increasing the amount of people it's exposed to and hopefully increase the player base.

They already do. Won't change much.

As long as we don't have a "CB to OB" transition like we did previously with the game shifting directions and moving away from tactical to twitch I think it's a great idea. Tons of new players, but lets not alienate those that have been with the game for nearly 3 years this time. K? please & Thank you

Hopefully not before CW, some new maps, and full interactive tutorials (hopefully like the ones in MechWarrior 2 : 31st Century Combat) that have been fully vetted by the community. Releasing the game onto Steam before the game is ready will do irreparable damage to its longevity.

I think it's fine. The more exposure the better for everyone.

Plus there will be a huge influx of n00bs to boost my stats on

That extra exposure comes with a price - Valve takes a fairly large cut from in-game store revenues. I wouldn't want to trade development of new game features for extra players.

After CW which means that's far from now. Since we are only on phase 2 of CW. Also this was said in the first townhall. Old news, man.

Oh god yes. My steam wallet is huge from selling counterstrike crates that went up in value immensely. I cannot wait to buy more mechbays for "Free"

I dunno... If you can get 100000 new users, each spending a minimum of 10 bucks each, even at a 50% bite that's 500,000 bucks you might not have received before.

Plus, my 'assumption' is that Steam would only get a bite of the income from their services, any income earned directly by PGI's own websites wouldn't be affected...

Bad news. The game isn't ready in its current state, and CW wont change that.

please for the love of all that is holy read the topic in my sig before ever going to steam... the influx of clueless steam players with no teamwork, tutorials or otherwise would be too much to bear lol

Although with a much much much better new player experience and dragging the community off the forums and more into the game... it will be beautiful

As opposed to how things are now? I'd like to see more players, and more $, and VOIP, and Chat... going to Steam will be a positive move.

Looking forward to this. The only reason I'm still using Windows as an OS is because I play this game. If I can (reliably) ply MWO through Steam, I'll switch to Linux.

Also brings a few features, like Steam's voice chat, and access to Steam's social/community stuff (chatting, units/groups, etc).

If they go with steam post CW. Hopefully fully developed CW. Then they need to commit to tutorials and other small new player experience improvements.

And they need to improve the social aspects of the game. We need to have an IN-GAME community. Not just on the forums. We need some permanent chat channels. Even if we have to pay MC to create private/public player channels.

And the bigger the community gets. The more varied and volatile it can become.
