This is running an HBK-4H

Nearly 900 damage for me is the most I've ever gotten ever with any mech.
I usually get 300-500 damage (500 being good for me) on average, running mostly mediums. (5 med, 2 hev)

So, tell me. What are your damage values for good and bad?

Worst case scenario I like to do 300,
average it about 4-500.
anything 600+ is a good average day.
1000+ I must've been angry and positioned well.

This is based on my atlas

-100 I really should've gone to the toilet first/grabbed a drink/not smoked/drank another one/forgetten I'm in a game because of the forum/not taken the jenner out that time.../stopped verbosely explaining things whilst bouncing full speed to towards my doom

Reasons, excuses for badness... many of them.

Edit: forgot to mention

Quote

They call us cannon fodder? But then who are the ones they ignore in combat?
The mediums.

Love that

Most of the time when I get really high damage it is when an assault or two let me whale on them. I don't attribute it to a direct indicator of skill.

Well, I follow the metric used in World of Tanks, if I get my tank's health in damage, I have done my job and can atleast say I gave my share of the damage. Anything less and its like meh....I coulda done better, anymor and its like aww yeah..

So, I do the same in this game, my warhawk has 526 armor, so, if I can manage to get atleast that much, I can atleast feel satisfied I did my part, any less and ugh, anymore...cool.

Just had a game, 571dmg, 1 kill, 8 assists.....very nice. Now that ive got a sensitivity setting that works and the game seems to be running atleast moderately well now. And we won....it always helps to have semi equally matched teams, 12-8 I think it ended....I didnt die either....awesome haha. I musta gotten lucky, or the MM truly is a bit better, cuz yeah....that was a far cry different fight from the last like 80 ive played....

That sounds like a pretty reasonable grading system, actually. 'Spose 320 is good for an 'ol hunchie! :D
Ever since I tried out this new Wub-chkback config I've been getting a consistent 500+ damage.

I consider a sub-200 damage game to be a bad game. 200-400 is average, 400-800 is an excellent game.

It depends on the mech and its loadout really, I tend to play mechs at 55 tons or lower so anything above 600 damage is pretty great. I think the best I ever did was something like 800 damage in my Jenner on a crazy frozen city match and I really regret not taking a screenshot of it, I do also have a screenshot of a memorable match with 790 damage with my SHD-5M brawler though.

Spoiler

Yeah this is pretty good metric. Id say you did your job once you hit 300, and excellent is 600+

Damage is not an accurate indicator of skill. In fact, inflated damage scores are indicative of poor shot placement. Many Clan mechs, for instance, get far higher damage for the same battlefield impact, due to the nature of Clan weapons and how they tend to spread damage more.

That said, I figure 1 kill and 200+ damage is minimal acceptable performance, as that's basically accounting for your own slot in the team roster.

300-400+ damage, assuming several component destructions and 5+ kills/assists is a decent game, where you've done a bit more than your share.

500-700+ damage, assuming 8+ kills/assists and lots of component destructions, is a good game, where you've made a reasonably dominant impact.

More than that, with 11-12 kills/assists, means that you've had an amazing game.

1k+ damage with only 1 or 2 kills and only a few assists means that you really need to learn to aim better, or you need to stop farming damage on crippled targets and do something meaningful instead.

Well my global average is 425 across all mechs including the ones I suck with so I use that as a measuring stick.

Below 350 damage = poor match
350-450 damage = average
450-600 damage = good
600-800 damage = great
800+ damage = outstanding

You don't need to strip all of that 526 armor to kill it though. You'd be surprise how little damage is required to kill an assault mech with just a few well placed shots.

I don't think damage is an accurate indicator of skill. There are instances where I killed 2 fresh lights with 2 alpha each. That roughly amounts to sub-200 damage, but effectively take out 2 players from the other team. I wouldn't call that a below average performance.

200 or less damage in any mech is abject failure. This is out of necessity than out of critcality. Or in other words: If you don't do 200 damage, you weren't an integral part of your team's success, as there are 12 enemy mechs out there, slathered in armor.

Average you're going to want to look in the 300+ ranges up to 500.

Once you start pulling in damage at the 500+ level you're pretty much 'in-the-zone'. It's likely that you were in a route and were slinging DPS unchecked. If you win a match at around 500 to 600, you will look down the roster on your side and chances are you will see at least two other people pulling those numbers, or 5 or 6 people pulling in high 300's and 400's.

800+ and you carried the team. You know it, I know it, everyone reading knows it. When you check the scoreboard you'll note 3 to 4 people on your team with next to no points at all (single diget often).

So with all that in mind - congratulations for carrying your team. Keep it up.

This is my inner monologue.
  • 0-200: Wow, that was an embarrassing performance. Quick, find a way to blame your team before they blame you!
  • 200-300: sub par. At least no one will call you out... Good thing you got that last second airstrike out to fool people into thinking you did something. 40,000 cbills well spent!
  • 300-400: Meh.
  • 400-500: respectable. Begin secretly judging your teammates scores and blame them for the loss! Ohhhh Self- righteousness... you are truly Nature's aphrodisiac!
  • 500-700: Looking pretty good. Now you can overtly judge your teammates scores via all chat!
  • 700-999 : Play cool Jman! act like you do this every game! I hope no one was watching you farm damage off the disconnected atlas...
  • 1000+ : This

It really depends on the weps you bring. If you bring lasers or lrms then higher damage numbers are expected. If you bring pinpoint (PPC or balistics) weps then it more about kills than overall damage.

5 kills, 1200 damage, Glad you were on my team :D
3 kills, 5 assists, 500 damage, proud of you.
2 kills, 7 assists, 400 damage, still proud.
1 kill, 3 assists, 200 damage, not going to complain.
100 damage, 12 assists, probably laughing at you.
45 damage, 1 assist, why did you install this game again? (unless you're in a commando or locust, then I applaud you for dealing any damage, but would rather you didn't suck so bad)
