Its half the fun of having (most) of my 'Mechs painted in full Com Guard titanium white, the stark contrast between the white and the barnacles.

repeat after me. everything went down graphic wise after that amazing 12v12 update everyone wanted. u know then all the graphics had to be tone down to manage 8 more mechs on the field. then the horrible gameplay that happened, the clustered maps. that is 1 thing pgi should never have kept their word on

I would think Graphics are client side...they probably brought it down in order to work with plebeian machines. (Like my current one.)
It may also have to do with having to do that individual damage thing to each model, for each weapon. (The picture Vass shows, which I do tear up for, is showing an atlas that never changed model with what you put on it.) They would have to do varying damage modeling to
[Part x (Weapons x Hardpoints)] for every mech.
I hope they do that at some point, it would be fantastic.

Even one grazing shot basically transforms a shiny mech into a pox filled abomination. How is it desirable or even realistic when my mech looks like it has gone through an asteroid shower when it still has 95% health? It simply turns me away from any camo purchases.
Context ma boy... context....
While I too have seen the nick result in a copious slathering of barnacle buck-shot (Hey, that was my porn name!) ... I've equally seen a full 50+ point alpha result in a minor chip below the canopy.
Its ultimately hit or miss. In the grand scheme of things I'm more willing to accept the inaccurate application of barnacle buka in favor of more accurate damage allocation...
I personally wince when I drop four large lasers on the right front torso and the left elbow glows cherry hot...
