its outright better than the IS gauss and the whole "equal but different" balancing methodology doesnt apply to clan gauss for some reason.

IS-(U/)AC20/10/5 (The IS-AC damage profile is the only hope that the IS may be able to show some resistance against the Clans)

when you hit someone with lasers they don't respond like they do with ACs
so for battle field reaction I love my ACs (I can make them pull back or great fire suppression weapon)

Hope you guys like "rainy" days.

Lrms easy to dodge, guassrifle impossible to dodge, or torso twist against... and it can be fired without giving away position because unless there zoomed in with advanced zoom and already looking your way your just a blur on the horizion.
Hell if your a jagermech your a very very tiny blur on the horizion.

How does a slightly increased charge up time for the clan one sound?

They are equal in reality. The weight/slots have to be lower on the CGauss or it won't fit on any of their 'mechs due to less customization and room available on them.
For instance how many 65t Clan 'mechs do you see running dual Gauss? That's right, zero. The IS have two 'mechs that can do it. The lightest Clan 'mech that can run it is the Timberwolf and even then you have limited ammo and no armor on one side of your body.

I used to think like that also, but the game has changed dramatically now that the Clans have arrived.
The IS MLAS just doesn't have the range to be truly viable any more. It's a fantastic filler weapon though, and great when boated, but you just have to get too close to use it (and really, it probably runs too hot also) - which is hard when most fights I see spend the first two thirds in long range peek-offs, which is where the Clans (especially DireWolves) seem to excel.
The CLAN MLAS is just too hot, IMHO. I used to consider it a primary weapon for the Clans, but now I carry and fire them only as a last resort over other primary weapon systems. Larger Clan lasers have far better DPS and HPS, IMHO, and are just more usable.
I would say that the best weapon for the 'sphere is Gauss (hands down). For the Clans, I'm torn between the larger lasers and Gauss there also.
Hello, waiter? I'd like to order a large portion of FLD please, I hear it's delicious.
Excellent choice sir. You'll be pwning n00bs in no time, sir.

You can bet that if the Clans were able to fit lower rated engines, you would see dual gauss all over the place. I know it would be the first thing I mounted. A slightly slower TW with the better portion of a meta-Dire's firepower? Yes please.

If/when they introduce any Clan battlemechs into the game this will be interesting.

Once you define an appropriate chassis and engine size then things will become interesting.
