Not likely, its been asked a lot and answered a lot, the problem is physics interactions over the net, and they haven't been bothered to fix the physics we currently have. So it won't happen at least until or unless we ever get collisions fixed in game.

**** physics interactions. We're not asking for them to do goddamn gymnastics or ******* mecha-karate. A punch or a kick. Do we even need to bring physics into it? Just info. Did a hit register? Ok. -10 points Gryfindor. Armor turns yellow. Done deal.

Melee combat? Never, because it's stupid. Do tanks charge at each other with bayonets? No, they do not.

It would imbalance the game in favor of Inner Sphere mechs. because most clan mechs are lacking in lower arm and hand actuators, and so would only do half damage with a reduced chance to hit.

We know the only acceptable way to balance the combat potential between clan and inner sphere is to nerf clan.

Light mechs need to be able to stand directly in front of an atals without fear of being kicked for 40 damage.

It takes skill to stand directly in front of an atlas below their cockpit level, don't punish lights by adapting rules from the table top game. The table top game should only be used to restrict what hard points or fixed items clan gets, those rules aren't for anything else!

Heavy Gear will have melee.
To all melee h8ters go somewhere else. Hawk is awaiting you. Melee is a big part in battletech game and lore. Its a reason of existence of count less amount of deferent mech designs. Just to name few ; charger, ti-tsiang, no-dachi, berserker, axeman, ghurka, preevater, hatchetman, dragon, etc.
So as soon as they realize that melee is out there and can be a major selling point, we will get it sooner then you expect.

It's not that people are melee haters. It's that to add it to the game has been stated by PGI as too much work. It requires rebuilding all the mech models and creating new animation for all of them. This is a crap ton of development hours that they are not going to undertake.

I think melee would be cool, and I'd love to see it implemented in game. I'd love to be able to tear the arm or leg off of another mech and beat it to death with it's own appendage! I'd also love to actually be able to do the "Highlander Stomp" in my Highlanders. Or, pick up an enemy Locust or Raven by it's feet and swing it like a club to kill it's team mates!

Sometimes you just have to punch a Direwolf in the face.

I doubt any of it will actually happen though :(

This. FFS we don't hate melee, we happen to have a clue that it's a massive undertaking and probably not worth the effort. There's enough issues with the game already, we don't need to add this giant one on top.

I wish we had physical attacks. But, it's not going to happen any time soon. Adding animations for physical attacks is mostly what is holding it back. Costing time and money they would get no monetary return on.

A good way to salve this problem is if we can make some kind of agreement with PGI to make donations into MWO specificly for putting physical attacks in MWO. If they are willing to put time into putting physical attacks into MWO. We can give them the money to make it happen.

Suggestions have been made. All have gotten nowhere.

This is probably the best argument against melee combat in MWO. MWO online mechs do not move like people and are not implemented in a way that lets them move like people, unlike mechs in TT. I think in a best case scenario it would look like Rock'em Sock'em Robots or a punching nun puppet, if you've seen one of those. Also, if a mech can punch then for me it raises the question of why it can't then lift its arms to raise those hardpoints in an attempt to gain the height advantage of mechs like the Jagermech. I have this hilarious mental image of 24 mechs running around with their arms sticking strait out--zombie mechs indeed!

I'm not saying the idea is intrinsically bad, just that it doesn't work unless the game is built from the ground up to make it work smoothly, as in the case of games like Chivalry, mentioned above.

Though honestly all you have to do is make a weapon with a 5m range, and have a hotkey for it, and no visual effect.

Whenever youre bumping uglies with an enemy mech, or chest bumping...smash the hot key and do some damage.

Its really not that complicated. Nor does it need an animation or any fancy mechanics.

And the same holds true in first person shooters...in real life you can lay down and hold your weapon over your head and fire from behind cover.

No FPS bothers with that and no one really complains. It doesnt have to be fancy.

No, and never.

If I wanted to play Rockem Sockem Robots. Id go to a thrift store and pick one up. There is enough face hugging in this game as it is.

and there would be far less of it if was dangerous to face hug.

Someday, years down the line we will get a Melee mech package and we can at that point unleash all of our pent up rage in close quarters combat, and it will be EPIC.

You obviously haven't played TT - melee was vital aspect, and fun. Punchs, kicks, charge, oush and Death from Above!

Although I LOVE that picture, I'm on the NO-side of this argument. I do not WANT melee, because for me it just feels stupid. Our mechs are no gundamns or power ranger bosses....

On the other side, what I would like is a shield-arm. You equiip it like everything else, it uses up x hardpoints on your arm and you can load it up with as much armor as you can carry, with armor weighting as much as normal armor. Done. That would be cool. A 10-ton shield would have 333 armor points for example (one Armor point is 0.03 tons right?).

Soo, you don't want punches or kicks because Battletech isn't Gundam, but you want a Gundam shield?
