Someone in my family (they all deny it!) agreed to update my laptop to windows 8.1 when prompted. I had been avoiding it. It seems to have messed up a bunch of stuff, including MWO. I know my AMD integrated graphics is just sufficient to run the game, and performance could be alot better, but it always worked. NOW, i get a message on startup of MWO that the graphics card isnt supported, and the game hangs up after i log on with password. It eventually gets to mechlab, but that takes 5-10 min. When I finally get into a match, it seems like I have a framerate of about 1 every 5 seconds. I updated the drivers to the newest version from the AMD site.

AMD Radeon HD 8610G
AMD A10-5745M APU with Radeon HD Graphics
6 gigs of memory

Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. And please go easy on me, im not as tech savvy as many of you.

Re-install your graphics drivers. You might need to uninstall the current one and then reinstall it, if just reinstalling the drivers doesn't resolve it. I had the same issue with Nvidia drivers, previously, it inevitably required reinstalling the drivers.

And outside of a match, it is still extremely slow trying to get anything done (each new screen loads real slow), its un-usable.

ok, ill try it

Win8.1 itself shouldn't be an issue. It does read like a gfx driver issue.

BTW, should I uninstall the driver through device manager? Or should I do it another way?

I have windows 8.1. I run MWO in compatibility to mode (Windows 7) or the game crashes at launch.

deinstall the graphic card completly
then reinstall driver(get the last version you used that worked)
sometimes fixes mess up more then they fix
i also use 8.1 with vtx hd 4830 1gb ddr5 card
i had issues installing the card on such "advanced" windows
solution was to use the rockbottom driver(one i got with the card)
no compability issues

Ok, tried to uninstall driver. Then let windows search for the driver and installed it. But I just noticed an alert on the graphics card in device manager.

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Huh?

Uninstall Catalyst Drivers: (this is assuming the PC installed the Catalyst driver set and not just the graphic driver)
http://support.amd.c...icsDrivers.aspx

There's also a utility to do a clean uninstall of the graphics drivers: http://www.techspot....ormation/16748/
This last is if you have a problem doing the uninstall above

AMD Drivers:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Direct links to the current Catalyst drivers for that should be compatible: (you'll need to know or find out if you're on a 32 or 64 bit system)
32 Bit:
http://support.amd.c...=Windows+7+-+32

64 Bit:
http://support.amd.c...=Windows+7+-+64

I'd recommend against having Windows detect your drivers directly, they will most likely be older drivers. If the above doesn't work, please refer to your laptop's manufacturer website and download the "supported" drivers from there. These will inevitably be older drivers since they mostly tend to be out of date (they sold you the machine, why continue to support it? ;P)
