Depends on the mission & what is required from sneaky scouting in lights to fire support (medium to assault) to brawling -medium to assault.
In MWO - don't know -depends on how the missions are set up and what the mechs are like (with no Aero or vehicles what use is a stock Rifleman?)

I like my heavy mechs in this time frame, my favs are the Marauder, Archer, and Cataphract.

The Rifleman is only good vs those in the fluff because of its targeting system, which was never translated into the game unless by some house rules. It has good weapons and can rip another mech to shreds easily, it just has a horrid heat curve and is definately not for beginner pilots.

no love for the Battle Armor?? or is that what you're classifying as ultra light.

battle armor, or elementals, don't even qualify as 'mechs' an ultralight is any mech weighing in less than 20 tons but even the few of those making more than chicken scratchings are still pushing 15 tons. Battle Armor is exactly that, a suit for a single person, might weigh one ton fully loaded with the pilot.

Massault! I favor assaults that little bit more, though

Medium all the way. I've been a phoenix hawk pilot for over 25 years. Love 'em ;)

For versatility, I gotta go with mediums.

Same, and if the devs do it well there so gona be a few assault mechs here and there.

I have to say im probably a meavy person, In league drops most of the time the mediums were the work horses, But im a clanner at heart and you gotta love the Ares, Mad Cat, and Cauldron Born. although the Dire wolf was one hell of a weapons platform. just something about the way those mechs look.

I have a feeling the technical term for lisault would be 'medium' :D

Super Duper Ultra Colossal Mega Mech that has a gun so large....it fires urban mechs at the enemy.

But seriously...for me anything 45-80 tons will do for me. Don't like anything lighter and anything heavier's just a big, slow target.

Assault
not becuase its the biggest gun boat with the most guns. But i have always had a love of heavy and slow. I love soaking damage up, wading through gunfire that would roast my smaller friends and standing tall through it all. Guns flaring out as locks light up.... or heavy as i love the Awesome

i prefer assault and light which was not listed mainly cause they are such different classes and it makes sense to use different strategies which helps me become a better pilot.

again, I'd point out that an assault/light would just be a medium, or at most a meavy, there's no 'lisault' because it would just be the median weight, the cross categories are more for those mechs that are one bordering the other, like the high end mediums (meavy's) they're not quite big enough to be in the heavy weight class but are still quite a bit bigger than the average medium.

Personally i choose medium and heavy, because i tend to get killed with light mech.

Depends on what Role I am playing.

Personally, I plan on playing Scout (Light) and Comander (Heavy). Then eventually try the Assult/Def (Mediums).

I think the different classes you can play will make this a really standout game.

As we as the fact that say a ML on a Jenner will do the same damage as one on an Atlas. :)
