Tutorial, horrid. Instructions for building mechs equally so. This game is a nightmare for a new player. How do you expect someone to grasp the basics of this game? Seriously....

A serious question. Were you trolling with this statement? A number of exceptional community members here hailed your call of frustration with some basic advice and offerings of help and......silence from you?

I hope you took them up on their offers via PM or TS3 and just forgot to update here. The community here (In the New Player Help section) is amazing. Take them up on their offers and you wont regret it.

Relax. He might have vented his frustration after a string of bad games, then went to bed and had to get up the next morning for work/school, not having the time to go and look at what his post wrought.

It's far easier to do that in this game. :P Twin AC/20s + anything's cockpit = instant kill.

That's assuming you can aim that well. I have a dual AC/20 Jager and only once have I ever 1-shot(ed) anything.

It's true there is that issue.

About the only thing that keeps them from dominating the game.

Though between the possible targets, a Clan mech is a lot easier to hit the cockpit of than an IS mech. The trick is to lob the shot while they are stationary so their bobbing doesn't risk you missing.

The basic skills for this game take a while to learn, but is shortened with experience playing past Mechwarrior Games.

Remember, once you feel proficient at one area of the game, expand to others. Brawling, LRM boats, sniping, scouting,ECM cover, and their counter roles.

The best way to develop is to play with a group of experienced players, sure you will be playing against experienced players, but that will shorten your learning curve. Talking is the best way to go for learning this game. Then watching how and where people go to do certain things. So many little things that make this game, but so many things makes it harder to play.

Get to a point where you do not care if you are running a PPC locust, or an AC 20 Raven for no other reason than having fun. Sure they are joke builds, well until your target dies.

then have fun.

just scanned the two pages of answers/sidetracking posts and would like to add the following:

- offering your help is chivalrous and everything
- offering links to 3rd party tools is spot on helpful
- mentioning ts3 servers because L2P reasons is useful (even if it requires some kind of extrovert skillset which might be not what everyone is wearing)

and now ... try to imagine this forum did not exist. and then try to argue about his post.

just my 2 cents

Patience and ambition. If you don't have either of those two.. you're better off playing a nice game of hop scotch.

Patience to figure out what works best for your style of combat.

Ambition to ask other players what works for them and their builds and also ambition to watch tutorial videos or read up on guides of certain builds to assist with fine-tuning your own skills.

Keep in mind that nobody (nobody with any common sense at least as there are the select few in any game who will resort to calling anyone a noob) expects anyone to be able to just dive in to anything that's new to them and completely understand everything without asking questions.

So if you have a question.. ask it.. don't make topics like these where you're ranting about frustrations you're experiencing because it just opens you up to mindless bashing which is actually looked down upon anyway.

We all recognize that there are problems with the new player experience. But this is the new player help section so we attempted to help.

If getting the things to change was the goal it would be better to go to the feature suggestion, feed back, or maybe even general discussion forums.

you are correct. what was written was not constructive ... i was answering to that what my internal rantfilter already tried to interpret into "i want a better documented game, why is nothing really well explained anywhere on premise" (of course via forumsearch and google and teamspeak and so on you can find stuffs)

and you are correct too, Rouken. this IS the section of the forum where the most helpful (and sometimes other ppl too *mumble* :P ) gather to enlighten the "little-ones".

i'd also second that this rant ... err ... the constructive translation of it, i mean ... would be better suited in the forum sections you mentioned. alas, it would drown there quickly, but that is another story.

With the exception of "Autopilot" and the specific keys... this Tutorial might teach you quite a bit.

If you haven't got time, well here's a sampler for the lols.

"You have successfully displayed the ability to do what I tell you to do. I like that. My dog does what I tell it to. I like my dog. I should introduce you two."
He's quite the character.

Good luck, and Spike Brave here has some really good tutorials for just about everything on his youtube videos.

I'll just drop this here:

As a non gamer woman I've never played a game like this before or had any experience with the background of the game. I have played WarThunder and thats about it.

I started appallingly in this game but then switched to lasers and a fast raven and got the hang of things, After that I switched to clan heavies but stuck to my lasers and have been having fun since.

Smurfys has helped as has searching other players smurfy builds and talking with players who know a thing or two.

This should help you get started with mech building. I geared the guide towards new players.

For the record, this game's learning curve is one of the hardest I've seen, however, it can be extremely rewarding in the long run.

I did; it's really not that hard - particularly if you've ever played a MechWarrior game since MechWarrior II. Many people find themselves with difficulty understanding the game, however, and that's what these forums are for.

Many of the Merc Corps (read: guilds) in the Factions: Merc Corps thread (under the MWO Universe section) will be willing to help you out with training and hands-on assistance, as well.

good lord there has never been anything mechwarrior since mw2 to even approach how GREAT that game was. sadly i doubt anything ever will again :(

OP sadly you are correct if you are new to the mechwarrior/BT universe this would be an atrocious game to figure out especially with the god awfulness of the UI 2.0. hopefully someone of some importance will take note to posts like this and help our badly needed new players and make a proper tutorial of sorts upon downloading the game. this community needs every player it can get and then some.

add me in game if you like and ill gladly help in anyway i can.
