I know it, you know it, your mother knows it, and your goldfish knows it: if PGI made and sold the Kodiak, they'd be rolling around in money like Scrooge McDuck.

Releasing the Kodiak should be a priority for PGI after CW. Why? Because every Clanner with disposable income would buy one. Why is that, you ask?
  • It has claws - that were never intended for melee, so no worries there
  • It's big, scary, and at least 173% more awesome than the Awesome
  • It can use a varied selection of weapons and doesn't "boat" effectively
  • It would allow PGI to cement their policy on Clan BattleMechs (suggestion: exactly the same as IS battlemechs, but keep the locked engine, structure, and armor - not heat sinks)
  • It fills a niche that needs filling for the Clans - frontline, in-your-face assault mech brawlers

No, PGI's license to print money is the all-powerful URBANMECH.

Kodiak and Piranha are two Clan mechs I would pay good money for.

As for IS mechs, we all know that the forbidden mechs would bring in a fortune; Warhammer, Rifleman, Marauder, etc.

How about an Urbanmech that pilots a modified Kodiak?

I would also pay out the ear for a Stone Rhino, but that one is nowhere near the level of the Kodiak.

It's a giant freaking bear.

Yeah, Kodiak would be nice. I'm on board so we can get some rules set in place for the not omni mechs. I'm completely in favor of your suggestion. Essentially lock the engine, endo, and ferro and otherwise treat them as IS mechs. I wouldn't be opposed to just saying they're omni mechs, though.

Making them omnimechs would mean creating omnipods. Mechs are easier to balance without omnipods, and I think Clanners would be willing to make the trade - unlock all heat sinks, but give up omnipods - if the mechs were cool enough.

The Kodiak is definitely cool enough.

That would make Clan regular mechs inferior to Clan Omnimechs though.

I think its a good idea, but the problem is what FupDup said.

Although, I think that is a bit of blanket statement for something that would differ case by case. But I could see a number of them being inferior.

I think we can all agree that treating them like IS battlemechs would be a mistake, though.

It's only inferior if you consider locked hardpoints to be completely inferior. I don't - plenty of IS mechs have great hardpoints. Jagermechs, Catapults, Atlases - none of them are really suffering from having fixed hardpoints.

You could also unlock Endo and Ferro slots - you couldn't remove the upgrade, but you could dynamically move them around the mech, just like IS mechs. Add in unlocked heat sinks as well, and you get a nice blend of IS and Clan without being superior or inferior to either one.

As cool as it would be, I doubt it would ever happen. The Kodiak is a second-line non-Omni mech with non-fixed clan components (including the engine).

IS mechs do well with locked hardpoints because every other aspect of them is unlocked. Also, Clans so far haven't gotten any hardpoint inflation, while nearly all IS mechs have in some form. Unlocked heat sinks wouldn't really do much because most of them just have DHS by default anyways (although it would help the few outliers like the Piranha).

If PGI wanted to make...a boat load of money they'd do it this way:

1)Release Urbanmech, Bushwacker, Mauler
2) Count Money
3)??????
4) Profit!!!!!

Or they could get CW going strong to get Players to Come back to the game FIRST AND THEN start worry about another 100 ton Mech

It's not an omni mech, they said the locked items were only locked for omni mechs, even inner sphere omni mechs.

So a regular fully customizable 100-ton clan battlemech with hard point inflation, that we can give endo steel and clan FF armor. It would be outstanding. Think Direwolf with 7 extra tons of pod space by default, dynamic armor and structure hardpoints and a changeable engine, and the ability to take jump jets.

It would not completely obsolete a few of the 80 ton assault mechs that can take 400 engines, but everything else...

Bushwacker and Mauler are out of the current era. Urbanmech is not a good mech.

Although as a Ghost Bear i will be obligated to buy a Kodiak it's not at the top of the list of mechs i do want. Those would be the Blood Asp, Cauldron Born, Shadow Cat. And the IS side of me, Mauler. In fact of the upcoming IS pack that's been rumored doesn't include the Mauler then there's no point in buying it. If PGI really wants my money they need to release the Mauler. That way i can do my Mauler Monday Madness campaign

No, the print money mechs will be of uber-cheese class such as the Kraken or the Piranha.

I'm not sure how the Kraken is uber-cheese, or how it would even sell - it looks like a pile of turds, and its default loadout is utterly unusable (10x AC/2)

You could try reading the OP.

Unless we're not allowed to discuss anything until after CW is published, right?
