But Glythe... then you take another step back and realize the most of this "controversy" never left our little sphere. And what little that did was more or less gibberish to anyone outside of the game.

Heck i will hold to that the forbes article did a lot more good then harm with the "people". Now i can not speak for how the weird world of investors and partners reacted to it... Seeing as there seems to be no real logic to that

All in all not even the 500$ mechs made much in the way of ripples... And i would not bother to get in to a discussion with Vassago over... well.. anything. He has been here a long time and i have a hard time remembering anyt point that he was happy about anything. I fear a kind of stockholm syndrome... Fittingly ironic as it is.. =P

Proud Gold Dire Wolf owner here. I was wondering if PGI/IGP will ever get around to doing the in-game badges for Gold Mech buyers? As I understand it, that was promised as part of the deal for $500. But to date no other mention.

I will never, ever understand the venom that was spewed over the gold mechs. I mean, sure, I'd never drop that kind of cash on them, but so what if people did? It's like having road rage over someone you see in a limited edition Ferrari. Does it diminish anything in your life that someone else has it? No? Then move on.

I also wonder how many people who raged about them went out and spent hundreds of dollars on a Star Citizen ship?

I mean, maybe it's simply because these people were giving what amounts to heavy contributions to MWO's development that some people thought were unwarranted. That said, I don't know why that's anyone else's business.

And I say this as someone who has been critical and skeptical of other moves PGI has made.

To those complaining about gold mechs, I refer you to the TF2 community, who are happy to spend several hundreds of dollars buying HATS, thats like if PGI released a gold bar that hangs in your cockpit for 200+ dollars. At least with the gold mechs its easy to see, it does have an effect, and you are supporting a developer. with TF2 the users are benefiting from the hat trading and selling for gross amounts of money, not valve.

but tf2 is an actually good game

you can forgive idiots for pumping money into tf2 because it's not just barely a step above a scam, nor have they suffered countless lies and position changes

Not true. The game is good. Better than good. You didn't get the game you want.. so you threw your toys.

While my initial reaction to the gold mechs was negative, I now don't see anything wrong with them, and think they are a pretty good way for some people to support MWO.

The whole gold mech thing was a great example of people being angry because they want to be angry.

Gold mechs have zero impact on gameplay, I thought they were too expensive so I didn't buy any. If PGI wants to do that deal again I say go for it. Apparently the sales paid for the development of the skin last time around. I imagine now its just a case of fitting the existing texture to mechs.

some people complain because they can't afford it, but that is not the real reason everyone had a who-haa about it, it was more the message they said with it "only for the real MechWarrior fan" was the real sting most people didn't take well, I can understand the anger of those that have helped to give MechWarrior online the necessary funding to get the game on its feet.

Angry cos we wanted to? Im ok with gold mech - im not with the way they were represented. "For true supporters only" - was stated right in the description (changed it now so i guess someone still have some parts of brain left) so founders are not true supporters (also a very wast chunk of founders were banned for openly opposing idiotic changes in gameplay mechanics) phoenix pack are also not the true supporters and so are sabre ones not to mention all those people, who have bought Mc and hero mechs which are "not pay to win" (YOLO wang, Muromets etc riiiiight) - whole campaign on the page, forums etc boiled down to "you are not our true supporter unless you bought our shiney ****" bug reps? useful suggestions? community work? frak that - buy our golden or you are not our supporters! And you people still questioning "why all the hate about golden mechs" and insult us with "its just angry because we want to"?

The description reads "The most ambitious of Kerensky's followers" that is the wording I remember from when it went up, so I'm going to assume that is what it said unless you have a cached version or something.

Nope. At start it was "For our true supporters only". Same as "bonus module slot on gold variant". But since i didn't bothered to save it you are free to believe in what you want to.
