In some situations it could be a tactical item

The new caustic map at night shows several lamps which have an illumination cone. Such makes me hopeful this will be pursued...

While we're on the subject, how about flares like in MW4? Those were a lot of fun!
Gasp no! More immersive features you say? Too much to code. On the other hand, we have these new shiny distrac... er mechs. Buy?

It would already blind people since that is how the low light feature works. Any light source produces glare (which makes some maps tough because they are dark but there are bright lights nearby), so a searchlight, being a light source, will be a glare in the eyes of someone who looks right into the beam.

the blinding of pilots with search light weather in night vision mode or not is not a good idea and as mechs use multiple sources of information for vision rather ineffective

that way searchlights wouldnt be strictly inferior to vision modes because vision modes would require skill points to use.

I think that's why they didn't do this. Since shaders usually only handle 4 dynamic lights (iirc) they'd have to code in some kind of wrapper that aggregates all the dynamic lights.
In a typical full match that's 24 dynamic lights that would have to somehow efficiently squeeze down to 4 or less.
If any of you know how this can be done then please shed some light on it (pun!)
