While I'm sure EVERYONE is well aware of the new rediculous feature with fixed JJ's, to those who own clan mechs not many people seem to care. I read an earlier post that had ALOT of trolling, harrassment, and bullying towards 1 player but unfortunatly his post was removed while I was trying to reply.

So here I am calling out PGI on the second worst mistake EVER in the history of MWO, only decideing to make MWO a strictly PVP only game. Yes PGI isnt perfect, they are human, they need sleep just like we do. They arnt cyborgs or we would be in trouble. But they have more than 1 head, they commuincate and they have a wealth of information at their hands, including an enormous player community to rely on who (sometimes-not always, troll-badmouth, have their monthlys-period, social problems and cant figure what they really want from PGI) can help PGI. Yet here I am, trying to rationalize the brain dead idea to change a couple mechs into something that should never have been changed in the way they were. I dont agree with the patch, I never use JJ's even if I'm on the timberwolf. Not sure what other mech was nerfed with perminent JJ's since I just logged in to check 1 mech to confirm.

Not like I really should care what happens to the game but I care about my account. I paid for it, why shouldn't i if PGI is going to ruin something I was confortable with before. Why fix something that wasnt broke? Point is [redacted] the JJ's NO ONE USES THEM ON THE TIMBER! It totaly ruined the build I used to use on it before, no point in having omni LRMx2 on it since its useless now with the stupid JJ's taking up almost half the space.

When we get to the point of changing the global construction rules in an effect to nerf one specific overpowered mech, I think it's time we recognize that the specific mech is the problem rather than the construction rules in play.

Translation: Nerf the Mad Cat with quirks focused on it only, don't change Omni rules just because of one mech.

Those pods are optional. You don't have to use them.

The TBR-S torsos are the single most overpowered omnipod in the game - they have the best hardpoints, more hardpoints than other omnipods, and essentially no negative quirks. Having JJs was just icing on the cake.

Now you have to take JJs if you want to use those torso pods. If you don't want JJs, don't take the pods. It's that simple.

And you know what? The TBR-S torso pods are still the best omnipods in the game. They just aren't a total obvious choice for literally every TBR loadout any more. You can take LRM x2 on all of the TBR torso pods.

You know that the TBR-S torsos have double the missile slots of the other pods, on top of their JJs, ballistic slots, and energy slots? There are entire mechs that have less hardpoints than the TBR-S torso pods.

And if you want my advice on your specific build? Just run 4x LRM5 instead of 2x of bigger LRM racks.

ever stop to think that may have been part of the the point of the nerf? They have this telemetry. Probably well aware 90% of TW-S have no or minimal JJs. And see that as part of the problem.

So kills two birds with one nerf.

Correction its 5 tons since 1 JJ is a ton for that mech that makes it 5 tons.

Yeah but they didn't have to drag the Kitfox along with it did they?

Yeah... of whiny troll threads that one was worthy of a cake. My main humor is all these people crying about "how this isn't battletech" but they have Endo Steel on all their mechs, which there are less than 10 planets in the entire Inner Sphere that can one off customize that (that's not even considering the nightmare it is to have to keep your special ordered structure parts around for repair, play A Time of War with a rules lawyer GM like i did and you'll sell off your custom Griffin you took the time out of the game to travel to Solaris VII to actually get it done!!!!) or how everyone using Engines that don't even EXIST in Battletech. There is nothing said about that... but try to make people take more than 1 JJ (which is about the stupidest thing you can waste tonnage on in an actual Battletech build) and all of a sudden they are crying CANON!!!!!

When I heard about this patch I preemptively installed JJ's on my S omnipods. While it certainly hit my Timberwolf it didn't nerf it into the ground. I can still mount 4x aSRM6 3x MG and 4x MLAS. The only thing that really changed was now I couldn't use pulse lasers.

I love my Timberwolf, I love it to teeny tiny little pieces but I can admit that it needed a nerf somewhere. When compared to some of the ideas that I've heard, fixed JJs are not that big a deal.

It certainly doesn't warrant an entire vitriolic thread about how you're uninstalling MWO.

Yeah but they didn't have to drag the Kitfox along with it did they?
  • You are required to use the JJ on the TBR-S variant - locked on the CT
  • Each omnipod on the TBR is optional. You don't have to use JJs - just switch out the torso for a different one.
  • You have a choice between 1, 3, or 5 JJs on the TBR-S
  • Other variants have a choice between 0, 2, or 4 JJs
  • The locked JJs are the price you pay for having such an awesome omnipod on the torso - other omnipods don't have locked JJs, but they offer worse hardpoints
Regarding the Kit Fox:
  • Most people use KFX-S torsos for the jets, and not the ballistic hardpoint (only 2 crit slots available)
  • KFX legs can be switched out to legs without any JJs.
  • There's no real reason to use the KFX-S torsos if you aren't using JJs. It's a very minor change, since there are *very* few builds using the KFX-S torsos that don't use JJs.
  • As above, the locked JJs are the price you pay for having a torso with better hardpoints
Also, JJs are very good!

I remember when the clan mechs got announced and everyone was like "A TIMBERWOLF WITH JJ's, GONNA BE OP"

Now they have to have the JJ's it's game over, man

Gonna have to work for those bills a bit harder I guess eh

First of all I don't give a danm mostly because I am mostly an InnerSphere pilot and think Timberwolves are over rated. Second of all I wasn't arguing I was just saying that the full mech with out omnipod change is 5 tons for the Jump Jets. I agree with you with the Kitfox part but this is going to make the canon people nuts and they are going to cry and leave again.

Ummm ...

There were omni-pods on one Kitfox variant and one Timberwolf variant that included jump jets. However, these omnipods let you fit additional jump jets anywhere on the mech or leave them off entirely.

It doesn't really make a lot of sense since all the other omni pods with jump jets had the locations fixed and had to include all of the jump jets if you use that omni pod. Some folks used these variant omni pods to include either specific hard points while leaving off the jump jets or used them to just add a jump jet or two somewhere on the mech.

PGI changed it so that all omni pods with jump jets are treated the same ... the jump jets are in fixed spots in these omni-pods ... it might have broken a few builds and possibly reduced the power of the Timberwolf by a small amount. However, the change really makes sense and is more consistent ... if anything, allowing jump jets to be fitted anywhere on the mech when a leg omni pod allowed the addition of +2 JJ isn't very logical.

My kitfox builds are a bit affected ... I will just shuffle up the omni-pods to get the features I want. Folks who are whining about the JJ change really need to look for something better to whine about.

-------------

On the topic of a PVE Mechwarrior game ... it isn't even clear whether PGI has a license to make such a game. We know that they obtained a license for on-line mechwarrior/battletech games on a pc ... how far that license extends, whether it covers making a standalone single player PVE game ... or adding PVE elements to online play either single player or in teams ... or building for different platforms is something known only to PGI. I am hoping that they can look at building a single player campaign sometime in 2015 ... but I would like to know whether their license allows them to do so or not.

So if the clan mechs came this way would people have complained? Or is it just because their ZOMG 1000 damage binky is now going to take things like effort and piloting skill to reach that lofty height that has everyone mad?

How many mechs did this change have an effect on? Two really as it had no visible effect on the Summoner. So the blanket statement rings truly hollow.

So now TBR-S pilots have to get creative about their builds. They have to learn how to pilot and develop situational awareness instead of point-click-profit. And they still retain most of their competitive advantages.

Tough life.

Isn't it 5 tons if you take all the S torso omni-pods? If you take different omni-pods presumably there are other builds that don't lose the tonnage to jump jets ...the kitfox S for example has leg omni pods with jump jets.

...I use JJs on my Timber...

Frankly, I just wish they'd buff JJs back to the way the used to be. They were fun then. Though I never poptarted, I enjoyed shooting pilots who did; it was like playing Whack-A-Mole! :D

At the very least, JJs need some kind of slight buff to vertical lift and a major buff to turn rate. JJs made Mechs agile in the books. In this game, they don't do much of anything.
