My hope is that once you buy one variant, the other variants of that chassis are heavily discounted in price. I couldn't imagine paying full price, or even 1/4 price, for each subsequent variant.

That just doesn't make sense, and is completely unrealistic.

Quite a feat given that you only get only 4 slots... (plus the Founder mechs). This was confirmed, I think, by the devs and can be seen on the Mechlab video.

but with the legendary you will have one mech in each catergory. this will of great help I think depending on how it works.

Doesn't make sense? Maybe I didn't explain properly. If I buy one mech chassis I will not pay the same price, or even just slightly less, for ANOTHER variant of the same chassis. At that point I would consider each variant an "add on" to the base model and pay a modest fee for each one.

That's entirely realistic and if they don't do that, that will be some major price gouging on the developer's part.

Aye - this was the final thing that swung it for me to get the Legendary package - I couldn't decide which mech to get and didn't want to fill up all my slots with mechs I didn't think I'd use - having them extra, that removed that worry. :(

Not really, since you'll be buying multiple chassis - that will be important in the Drop Ship missions, since you can use up to 4 mechs in the one mission.

I expect the pay to play system to be similar to Star Trek Online. There you can pay into an account to buy dilithium (which can be earned in game but takes ages) or purchase costumes/ships directly from the store. These ships you can only use once your charecter is at an appropriate level for the class of ship. This stops it from being pay to win.

You can also buy extra ship slots so that you can have more than the basic maximum. This just means that you can buy more varieties of ship in game. I expect PGI to impliment a similar system as it seems an obvious way to make some cash.

From what i have heard and read, I'm sure that's the way it works, 1 chassis, with many swappable variants..

Could we get a dev's answer on this? If we can just buy in variants on top of the base hull, it would be interesting - the video seems to suggest otherwise though.

I agree that they could make it so that all variants of a mech take up the same spot in the mech bay. That way you could technically have 16 mechs in your bay...but I am not sure if that goes with the limited mech bay slots idea

They'd be stupid not to sell additional mech slots.
I have this pretty solid hunch they aint stupid..
Just sayin'.

I really hope they have additional slots, because I'm with you there are a few mechs that I want all the variants of.
