Maybe in another 10 years?

The Mechassualt series was a reason I bought an X-box. Seeing the window glass flying everywhere sold me. But the game itself reminded me too much of the Sega Genesis Battletech spinoff, and it lacked some heart. Now unless they bring a true salvage/customization system into the game, I would be forced to wait till the price tag read $5 before buying it.

I picked up Mechassault from a bargain bin (literally a wire bin, even!) and enjoyed it. IMO the only real problem with MA is that the developers did not divorce the game from the Battletech franchise when the game they were creating started going its own separate way from not only Mechwarrior, but Battletech as a whole. For example, if you don't want hitscan weapons in your game, don't use a setting where beam weapons are common. If you don't want lots of fiddly loadout options, don't use a setting where most armored units are astoundingly modular and refitting to make use of whatever salvage is available to replace lost parts is the norm. That doesn't make it a bad game, just a bad fit for Battletech.
I just wish fans of one but not the other would stop trying to equate the two and think they should be merged, or that one should be killed to "make room for" the other when there is no reason they should be considered to have anything to do with one another. If you want more of one, stop trying to attack the other and maybe you'll get a warmer reception and more constructive dialogue.
Battletech and Mechwarrior are rich in depth and customisability, dark "space opera" lore, and heavy metal retro-future feel, all of which are starkly at odds with the bright, shiny, plasticy remote-controlled toy feel and über-cheesy "Saturday morning cartoon" plot of Mechassault. I like both, but they just don't mix well. I would like for the developers of Mechassault to come up with their own world in which to continue to work on their popular gameplay and aesthetic style, so MA fans can have what they want. Speaking of Saturday morning cartoons, failing that I also like the idea of giving MA canonical status as a hilariously cheesy in-universe dramatisation based loosely on current events in the 'Sphere, much like the cartoon.

This new game is just for you, OWL, as I can see that you are a gamer that loves a game that engages ones imagination and is full of story. I created this thread, NOT because I want the devs to make this game into a MA clone. No way!! I want a simulator game. One done right. I only started following this game's news feed because of the false promise of it being on the 360. During that time, I have come to realize that I actually want to play a sim style MW, since the others I have played were not my cup of tea. I take NOTHING away from those gamers that really love some of the old MW games, but they were not for me. I am, however, now really intrigued by this new game's possibilities and I look forward to the release. That said, the name of this thread is "The NEXT MA...Make it happen!!", not, "Kill MW so that we can have another arcade version of BT!" Please don't get me wrong. I also am trying to get the attention of other MA lovers so that we can band together. If you had played MW3 with a group of guys for years, would you not want to get together with them and play this game, AND,...is that not what this forum is for?
PS- Am I the only one to notice that MWO is a lot like MA in the fact that it will be sans SP or any campaign to speak of? Hehehe...(Lets be honest here, MA's SP sucked ice cubes)

Did you know that M$ had once planned to allow PC Gamers and XBox360 gamers to compete against one and other, under their Games for Windows initiative?
Games like Halo and Gears of War etc.
Just one problem. They decided to test it out how it would play out, they invited the best console players and set them up against mediocre PC players. Thing is the PC gamers kept roflstomping the console players.
And the project was subsequently abandoned.
Now granted this was a rumor. But it does explain quite nicely why M$ never did anything with the possibility of X-box/PC crossovers. This despite the coding for both being essentially the same. Unlike with the PS3 and the PC.

Second one though, no thanks. And no thanks to further entries in that installment. No more Korn boss music.
