Probably happened once, I bet. As for me, those ECM Lights run over as soon as the game starts and escort me like a high class lady. Just ask nicely, mixed with a bit of humor.

- You alt-tabbed during the loading screen and started moving 10-20s late. At this time, you're left behind. Depending on the map, this might have killed you already.
- While getting out of the spawn, you stopped moving to fire at the enemies. The team kept moving, you didn't notice.
- While moving to rejoin the team, you were shot at. You stopped and turned around to shoot back. As soon as you do this, you're dead. DO NOT TURN BACK. Let the lights pick at you with their puny pasers, your Dire can take it.
- You were in the friendly deathball, but you were still left behind for whatever reason. The solution is simple, always try to be at the frontline. Always try to lead with your Dire and I promise you'll never be left behind.

I always snicker when I see indecisive DW pilots at the start, and they are always there.
*plod plod plod*
*stop*
*turn a bit*
*are they going that way?*
*plod plod-nope*
*turns*
*this way*
*plod plod*
*stops mech to type*
"Please wait for assaults"
*plod plod*
*gets to the fight lasts, fires for three seconds, cores three mechs*
*gets 600 damage before dying*
"GOD I HATE PUGS THAT DON'T WAIT FOR ASSAULTS"
Pick a direction. With a mech of your mass and girth, lighter mechs will be inexplicably reeled in by your gravity anyway. I know that if I'm in a lighter mech, i'll hover in the same grid a DW is in.
Too many DW pilots live in their comfort zone - which is any direction they are facing while standing still. If the rest of the group moves, yes, you may have to give up your prime real estate to follow. Not being able to look at things while you walk is the burden you have to shoulder for having the firepower of a dropship.

As a Long time Atlas Pilot, I know the Dire's pain. Even with a 360 engine the team runs off to engage the enemy without my support, dies, then blames me for not helping them 1,200 meters away from my plodding butt!
Don't blame the slow man for not being there when you left him behind!

Hey, I often run slow-as-balls-to-fit-the-dakka Yagermechs. I understand.
I'm a little sheltered from the hate though, because when I die at the hands of a couple of lights with 6 or 7 total damage, people just go "oh well, just a Yager. Silly Yager!".
When an Atlas or Dire gets blown to bits though, it's like some sort of friggin greek tragedy.
"Noooo! Verily, yonder DireWolf must be a caluminous rude-growing barnacle to have carked it with nary a kill to his credit!"
"CAD! Wouldst thou have shown not the skills of a Turnip, we could have triumphed!"
I think people just need to understand that slow mechs are occasionally going to have bad days in the scrambling over each other to KIIIIIIIIL world of Pugs. What stage in grieving is acceptance again? Are we still on anger and bargaining?

Game starts. Everyone springs into action. Run-in-a-counter-clockwise motion, headless chicken, mode.
The team that spawns on the bottom often has its assault lance spawn furthest behind.
There's no way direwolves that spawn 400-800 meters behind everyone else can hope to catch up.
They get left behind and overrun.
The smart play is to wait for the assault lance & cover them as they cross the water.
But as so often happens, your team will do the complete opposite 99.9% of the time.

Now that lances are grouped, roughly, by speed it's not as bad but I tested both "bad" spawn locations on River City (time trials using DWF & Jenner) and you actually can't escape either of the spawn points before a light mech can find you, harass and spot for LRMs if any.
Even if I ran the instant I had control of the DWF, the Jenner always had time to spare.

At the start screen you can see what mechs are in each lance.
On the Minimap you can see where every team member is, and hitting I will bring up info on who is who.
There is also the "Show Target Overlay" feature. I forgot what the original keybind is though.

Allowing your DWFs to be flanked/LRMd before they join the combat = your team loses.

1) At the start of the match Hit Q and discover the location of the Assault Lance
2) Form up on the Assault Lance, or the Steiner Scout Lance if present.
3) Profit
With the lances grouped by weight you'll be surprised how many of your lance mates will follow you to the Assault lance if you're not already it in.

I feel as a medium with limited firepower and armour, it is my duty to assist Direwolf/Atlas etc, and enjoy the perk of having a big body guard to soak up lazorz and lrm rain.
Often this leads to opportunities to to take down or kill assist mechs that the direwolf (etc) has softened up/annihilated.
This teamwork is very satisfying.
