@Shar Wolf : You were mentioned before you announced yourself :D

So I saw. :P

Was having some issues that kept me from posting before that though.

Edit: And speed is life, never stop moving, and never run in a straight line. ;)

Speed is life - but light mechs can take a surprising amount of damage.

You know that if they all hit the arm hitbox (which, admittedly, shrinks massively after being blown off) a Locust can take over 200 points of damage before dying? :o

Firestarter, Commando, and Spider have much bigger "dead" arm boxes - and there have been plenty of times I have spent an extra 5+ minutes of a match still fighting because I had a STD engine.
Which is (semi-obviously) much easier to do with SL builds

I know my urbie/spider can tank damage:) I just know when I was learning lights going fast and never stopping is what got me through some of the learning curve (do you ever really get over the learning curve in a light?).

I had better luck moving slower - but when I was learning it was very much pre-HSR, and the lag was hurting me more than them.

Thanks for the tips. I guess I just need more practice, that way I can get a better feel for when to make certain moves. I try to hit and run but every time I make a run, Ice ferrets, Jenners and Ravens are all over me and chasing. I get some hits in and go down swinging because I don't want to go down with my back to them. By then, i'm a pinata at a party that everyone wants to open and even though my teammates are pounding them, they concentrate on me. :D

Watched Konivings TDK vid a few more times...I will be on tonight and try again. Maybe I will see you guys on the battlefield.

He has the right idea I think. Start a post and then continue asking all of your questions. None of us can resist posting if we get a chance :) I did that when I started and I have progressed all the way from awful to "not that bad" (my sons words).

i Advice you to play all Weightclasses to get an general first Feel for them.

As Mediums realy aare the Backup for Assaults you seem to understand the game mechanics very fast :)

Just keep in Mind that you still need an Assault on your Side to play that Way :)

Have fun in your next matches .
and yes meds are some of the best assualt suporters all but my kintaro 18 witch can best serve the team by back stabing assualts to death in 2 good shots

Yeah, I bought the Shadow Hawk 5M. I love it so far. I ran it as is for the first match then took off the lrm20, changed uac5 to ac5 on left torso (other people on the forums recomended that), tried erppc on right arm but suck with it, some guys I played with last night recommended erll instead of erppc so that's on now. I haven't figured out Smurfy yet lol but here is what I have going on..... I have Ssrm2 on head and right torso firing together - ac5 in left torso- erll on right arm - full armor - 5jj - bought 1 extra dhs to help control heat with the erppc.
i will point out that a uac5 has a dps of 6 on dubble tap witch is higher then a ac10 jest an fyi and yes they can be hard to use till out get used to them

Definitely wait for sales on the bundles, but they are an awesome value when you do ... How are you liking the shadowhawk?

I was really hoping to avoid coming off as needy or annoying by dragging this thread out. I enjoy this game and the people on the forum have been great. I am not good at MWO by any stretch of the imagination...yet...but with the tips and videos you guys have shared, I can only improve.

Thanks for the supportive attitude.

As for the Shadow Hawk.....I am a fickle mess. I tried to like it but I used the cbills I have been earning with The Deaths Knell and traded it in on a Hunchback 4G. In the first few games with it, I feel like I am contributing to whatever team I am on. My damage and assists have gone up already. Then again, maybe I have lost my way.

you are still a beginner, while eliting a chassis is an advantage it is not essential. it is better to find a Mech which feels right.

I purchased the Legendary Founder package as a birthday present to myself (the Mechwarrior series had always been one of my favorates), expecting to enjoy the Hunchback and Atlas (as I have in previous games), I did not give the Jenner a chance (because in previous games the objective had always been to get out of lights as fast as possible) and I could not play the Catapult or Hunchback effectively, so I elited the Atlas, then the Cicada was released so I decided to try that.
The Cicada and I just clicked, all of a sudden I felt like I was contributing to the team (I had never felt like that in the other Mechs), realizing you can kill a Mech more than twice your size one on one is a great confidence boost. that led me to realize I am more of a light pilot so after eliting the Cicada I tried the Jenner and also loved it.

if the Hunchback works for you then great, its torso twist makes it feel so much more agile then the Shadow Hawk (and it is not nearly as high priority target for the other team), that is probably what you are enjoying.

Good luck with many more Mechs.

Im beginning to see more Hunchies out there. And they are to be reconed with so yes! The quirks has helped it alot...

@Shaemus: You're not loosing your way. Being fickle about what chassis to run only indicates you're finding your way around what to chose. I have tried alot of mechs, mastered a great deal of them only to find myself wandering to the next one. Ususally that is a mech that cought my eye on the battlefield and I thought "I gotta get me one of these!" and off I go... I know that some pilots only swears to a weightclass or prefers a chassistype. To me its a question of mood. If I feel like dishing out some bloody noses Ill drag out my Dire Wolf, if I feel like ninjaing around Ill fire up the Spiders... When we run drops in my unit, we have a set of mechs that fullfills specific roles and creates a structure needed for a given tactic. What Im trying to say is you cant be too fickle about what mech to run. Even if you are failing horrible in, say, a light mech you still learn how they move and that serves you when you go against them...

best advice i was ever given.....

Play HBK's.... it will make you learn to twist....

Now... the quirks...... Will peiople say the hawk is the way to go? I never liked that mech anyway due to its twist... Maybe this 12v12 stuff is still good.... but for a PUG... wow.... i can twist to behind me!

When I started this game I had the fortune of tapping into my younger brother's knowledge that he had gained from playing since closed beta. I just kept firing questions on the mail and gushing about cool moments, learning points and horrible fails. This was through Gmail, which has a limit of 100 e-mails/thread. Yeah, I ran through 2 of those threads before I ran out of questions.

One thing to keep in mind, and I know because it went this way for me, is that you WILL get better. You will think maybe the new chassis is awesome, it isn't. You may think you are just better in the new mech, you may not be. Instead you may just be at one of those improving stages and simply doing better. Some mechs are worse than others, but more often than not that is secondary to the person behind the keyboard's skill.

Don't write of the SHD permanently, it is a bit more complex than the hunchie or centurion. Those are great starter mechs as they both rock in the right hands, are very forgiving and each can teach useful skills. In the HBK, practice peeking with that high right shoulder weapon for instance.

I haven't completely written off the Shadow Hawk, because it is a good mech and I have played on teams with others that do much better with it than I do. I loved it at first but after playing with other mechs, it faded a little for me. Like I said, I am a fickle mess. :) It looks like I will have to rein in my tendencies in order to master a certain chassis.

I have become an avid student of the game and have been all over the forums looking up loadouts, strategies, beginner tips and tricks. If I show improvement it will be because of the resources that the experienced players have shared. Practicing what I have learned from the forums has helped me a great deal but I still have SO much to learn

Thank you to everyone that has shared with me and everyone else.
