It did work. I used another monitor to set it up, thanks to the advice you gave. After seeing your post, I noticed there was nothing for a monitor in device manager and violently placed my right palm against my forehead. Everything is good now.

I found a dark side to this game that I find discouraging. I am a newbie and I have made mistakes...5 times I have accidentally hit my own teammates *BLUSH*

I recently tried a new loadout and mouse config. I was running 2 mpls on my right arm and 2 ac5. I momentarily forgot I switched mouse buttons and instead of shooting over my Spider teammate with the ac5s as intended, I accidentally hit him in the back with my mpls when he maneuvered.

I immediately apologized. He then turned and shot me.....fair enough.....I screwed up. He then continued to shoot me until I was destroyed. I didn't shoot back but there was no need in his taking it that far.

My point is: I know we are responsible for our actions but some people take this game (or themselves) WAY too seriously. I have been shot by teammates...forgive and forget because sometime in the future you will make a mistake and how we handle things will affect how many people stick with MWO.

Sorry for the rant and for posting twice in a row.

This is something I should've done when I first started selling what I didn't use anymore. Since we have an unlimited salvage storage space for all our unused equip.. don't sell any of it other than the 'mechs you don't want to use anymore. Even if you have multiple copies of the same equip.. it's easier to save them and re-equip them to your current 'mechs instead of having to strip 'mechs then restock the ones you want to bring out into the field.

There's an option to 'Strip 'Mech' in the Configuration window where you can Remove Equipment, Modules and/or Armor. I always do that when I'm done mastering the XP for 'mechs when I don't want to use them anymore. Or sometimes when I want a clean slate I'll remove everything from the 'mech and start from scratch when setting them up the way I like to.

I could've saved a lot of C-Bills if I had of just kept the Engines and Weapons and Equipment I earned through buying new 'mechs that I wanted to try out. Recently I found that I'm having to buy more armor points too. Didn't know we had those in reserve but all the same.

It's time for me to start grinding out matches and saving enough for 2 more Shadow Hawks. Thanks again for the tips and I hope to see you guys on the battlefield.....even if you rip me a new one, lol.

When I get more experience, I will be sure to help out any other rookies. The way you guys have helped me out!

We have all friendly fired on someone and been friendly fired on. It is annoying when it happens to you but I have had to apologize numerous times for firing "over" someone only to hit my friend in the back so I try to brush it off when it happens to me. It was uncalled for for someone to kill you in return for your mistake. Unfortunately some people are jerks, but in that case it was him not you.

yes it happens to everyone... the people that retaliate are just A-holes.... I have hit a button on accident, happened more before they changed it so when you click back in from being tabbed out, it used to fire your weapons.. whoops! Though i must say, it does piss me off at the start of the match when people just start firing for no reason what so ever. Faster mechs get hit as they run by.. slower mechs have a ton of fire power and can take off serious armor.

In battle it does happen to.. especially with brawlers.. People just don't have good enough aim, or can't wait a second for people to clear... I swear at times i have been brawling and my own team tore me up more than the enemy.. So far no-one has ever fired on me, but if they did i would surely fire back.

I have even spoken up in game when people have TK'd.. they always give the same thing,, they shouldn't of done it.. Yes you are right, but loosing a couple points of armor, and us being down a mech, and you just being a jerk does not make things better at all.

It happens,, someone runs in front, you miss aim, happen to miss drop an air strike, or a friendly runs into said point right after you drop... Just don't let it get to you and move on. Just in the future be more mindful. And if you really must fire your weapons at the start of the game,. Do it into the ground right in front of you so no one else can get hit..

@edit.. figures.. first match after writing this...

Match starts.. I get blasted from behind in my raven.. Back armor bright red, the dude shot me 4 more times, legs, arm, torso.. even as i was running and trying to dodge, I finally snapped and turned, fired some SRM's and my lasters, and then ran off in the other direction.. I certainly wasn't going to let him kill me before moving out of base.. The weapons i fired were to make him think twice for a distraction to get away.. I think i had some pretty good restraint in this situation.. Ya never know when someone is just new, or just being a jerk.. *sigh.. Keep on the look out for a rouge Firestarter.....

This is Shaemus.....I tried setting up another account and crossed them up. I had no intention of posting with this alt account but screwed up.

I was firing at an enemy not open air, but the bad thing was if I had hit the right mouse button my ac5s would have cleanly fired over the Spider. My mpls were set a little lower so...I beaned him. Totally MY fault but...PLEASE don't kill your own teammates for mistakes that ANYONE can and will make.

For the record = I set this account up for my kid because he wants to play but likes the Spider and my Shadow Hawk is too slow for him.

Just to mention, it's usually better not to try to fire arm-mounted MPLs over allies; they are low hung. Also range issue. If the enemy is close enough to be using MPLs, you shouldn't be standing behind the spider but in front.

Also most spiders have 1 to 3 armor on the back. 1 MPL does 6 damage. 2 MPL might kill it even if it's fresh.

So If I stand about 50 meters behind an enemy spider that is not moving and I shoot 4 ML and 24 SRMs in its back it should be dead, right? (Yes, Unwashed, then that spider will be quite dead).

Thanks for the tip. I really only intended to fire the ac5s which SHOULD have went over him but I just pushed the wrong mouse button and oops.

I screwed up and trying to make excuses for my screw up would be like trying to put a candy coating over a T-U-R-D.

Thought I'd post a couple of thoughts as a fellow fairly new player (well, I'm probably not "new" anymore, just "not especially skilled" ;)

SKILLS
The "Skills" tab is very confusing. Or at least it confused me, and given either a] I'm an idiot, or b] it's confusing, for my own peace of mind I'm choosing to believe it's option B.

Some stuff about GXP and Mech skills, which is probably in every damn guide but which still confused me:
Spoiler

PILOT SKILLS
Oh boy. Even though I read a few guides, I still screwed this up royally.

In the Pilot Skills section, you'll see some obvious module unlocks, like Radar Deprivation. The way these work is that you pay a certain amount of GXP to unlock access to the module. Once you've done that, you can then BUY a module (or more than one) for C-Bills and put it on a mech. They're typically pretty expensive though -- so don't forget that it's not a *huge* hassle to move a module or modules from mech to mech -- you don't have to buy one for each mech.

There are also a lot of weapon-specific skills, range extensions and cooldown reductions. Don't ask me why, but I assumed that THESE options worked a bit like mech skills -- you unlock them, they work, everyone's a winner.

They don't work like that.

You still have to buy a module for C-Bills and install it on your mech to enable the capability you "unlocked". I got confused on this point and spent a small fortune in GXP unlocking cooldowns and range extensions for medium lasers and ... er ... something else (I forget, and am at work so can't check).

I'll leave the question of whether or not these modules are worth unlocking/buying to more experienced, wiser folks, but I think the general consensus is that there are other more useful modules to unlock first.

Radar dep is nearly invaluable, near instant radar loss means lrm's loose lock much quicker. Next to that would be seismic sensor, it requires you to be stationary, but allows creates radar blips through walls, targeting decay is nearly mandatory to counter dep for lock on weapons .

No worries my friend. We have all accidentally shot our team mates. We are usually forgiven immediately. There was one time I over reacted which was actually clever piloting form a spider pilot. I was leading our lance in Terra Therma, and had two pug members with me. One in an Orion, and the other a Dire Wolf.

As I was moving a long, I get nailed in the back with IS ERLL fire. I call over lance chat for them to knock it off. They tell me it wasn't them. A second later, BAM! hit in the rear again. I turn around and in caps tell the pugs behind me that the next time I get shot in the back I'm going to show them how it feels.

I turn around and sure enough once again get hit in the back. I turn and light up the Orion behind me, and nearly take off his left torso. I start growling at him over lance chat when I notice an enemy spider right behind him, equipped with an ECM poke his head out, and light me up from the front! I returned fire, and chased the spider off.

I felt like an a$$, well, because I was being asinine. I have never since that day intentionally returned fire on someone who accidentally hits me. I have to admit, that was pretty cool of the spider pilot to antagonize me into believing it was one of my own team mates shooting me. I guess my point is that we all make mistakes. Don't worry, this one won't be your last ~Grins

I learned my lesson from that...I have been staying off the the side and REALLY picking my shots so that my shots don't hit my teammates. My damage numbers still suck while I am trying to figure out which loadout I like best on my ShadowHawk 5M but I am still enjoying grinding away.

If you see PAINGUIN X running around in his pesky little Spider 5D, that's my kid.....keep him humble by kicking him in the pants. He's already better than I am. :D

Just keep in mind that "It happens"

I've scratched the backs of many allies on accident 'cause I'd have a clear shot and well.. sometimes the torso twist isn't fast enough to redirect the laser fire or I'll fire a salvo of SRMs at a target and you can't redirect those..

I've had my back armor removed a few times because allies decide to continue firing at the enemy while backing up and their weaponry just rips into me instead. I'd like to believe that they thought since their crosshairs were over the enemy that all their weapons would hit the enemy but.. nope.. doesn't work like that. If someone's sitting infront of one of your arms and you use the weapon on that arm, even if the crosshair is on the enemy.. it'll be blocked by whatever is infront of that arm.

Roger that. Lol.

SIDE QUESTION: I recently purchased some MC, so what do you think is the best Hero mech to buy? After playing the Victor so much at the start, I am looking hard at the Dragon Slayer. I am torn...

Dragon Slayer is a good Hero mech (no personal experience, but it is widely praised by Victor users here on the forum). I'd advise to wait until a sale though. There's bound to be one coming up again soon which will let you save 35-50% of your MC.
