Hi guys,

I need advice about which Hero Mech to buy.

Only criteria it had to be a fun mech and good C-Bill grinder.

Categorically, can't be a light mech because I am over 40 and my reflexes suck and without that I suck with lights.

I don't like the assaults that much, if you choose wrong side of the map, assault are to slow to react either you are dead or fight is over before you arrive there.

So real only options are the meds (while they can react really good to changing battle conditions) and agile heavies.

I am thinking about Arrow, what do you think?

I was about to suggest the FireBrand, but then you mentioned 'agile'... and agile it is not. However, if you like the sound of Mega Dakka and nice, high mounted lasers, then you may just enjoy it.

Like the arrow eh? Look into the mastery bundles in the in game store tab. Get 2 more chassis and 30 days Premium Time too.

If you really need to consider more hitpoints, get the Cataphract bundle... I think it has the CTF 3D too, a tier 1 meta mech.

I look to the all Stalker variants as Missile Boats and that is not my thing. Is it different with Misery?

Missileboat stalkers are lame. Misery? 4xMLAS 1xSRM6 1xAC/20 1xLLAS/ERLLAS with maxed engine (65kph with speedtweak) is a blimp filled with nightmares and the tears of orphans on big, beefy legs

Arrow it is.
The pack is a nice deal and the Arrow a funny mech.
I own one and still like to play it beside all my Clan mechs

For fun the Arrow is awesome. For making $$$ the Firebrand is awesome. The Pretty Baby is not awesome... (in fact I sold mine for cbills that's how bad it is)

Yeah that is a good point.
As much fun as the arrow is, it is not the best cbill print in this game.

Pick something that allows customization if you want longevity. Most of the heroes are one-trick ponies(Arrow, Oxide, Ember, TDK, YLW . . .) while some of them can do well in a variety of roles and can be played with various builds (Anansi, Protector, Dragon Slayer, Golden Boy, Firebrand, La Malinche . . .). Personally one-trick ponies, even though effective, bore me to death after a few rounds.

I'd highly recommend the Protector. It does everything a heavy should do; it has good hitboxes and tanks very well, it has a variety of hardpoints that allow you to take diferent roles(brawler, sniper, LRM boat, all-round ranged support). Its only weaknesses are its speed and fragile sides. I've spent a good amount of time figuring out builds with this thing and it still keeps me entertained after one year.

Protector gets bonus points for being Kerensky's mech.

What more could you /ever/ want?

There is no reason to buy a hero right now - no sales and massive IS balance changes inc. The best buy is still Timbers a la carte - fast, agile, still best mech in the game with 30% cbills bonus.

If that's too much I'd suggest Ilya as one of the best heroes still especially if you're not that fast on reactions.

"Hifi popspot" Dragon slayer

  • Cheaper than a heavy mech
  • Agile as hell
  • Lasers are easier to hit with than ballistics, not as reliant on reaction time
  • Jump jets
  • More armour than an Arrow. (Besides, the Arrow is usually regarded as an easy kill, due to its size, lack of speed and lack of armour)

The Firebrand is my personal favorite. It's solid, reliable, and as long as you don't run twin gauss or twin AC/20, you don't draw a whole lot of incoming fire.

I run a fat Rifleman build, with 2x Large Lasers, 2x AC/5s, and 2x Medium Lasers. It's rock solid damage output, easy to use, and a lot of fun. It also tends to not be a priority target when people get a read on the loadouts, as it's not one of the big, scary meta bogeymen.

Apart from how good each ero mech is, I think you need to take into consideration how versatile the hardpoints are. In other words, how many different builds can you make for each hero mech? For example, the Yen Lo Wang has maybe 3 or 4 viable builds, and everything else is totally crap. And the best 2 alternatives by far would be AC20, lasers and STD engine, or AC20, lasers and XL engine. Basically the same thing. The YLW is nice, but it doesn't offer a lot of variation.

The same thing applies to hero mechs like Sparky and Ilya Muromets. They are arguably some of the best hero mechs in the game, but there's not a whole lot of different builds that work for them. Which means you'll grow bored faster.

I'd recommend against the Arrow. I like mine, but it's finicky and fragile.

While not quite a hero, perhaps you could consider an Invasion DoomCrow or TimberGod.

Those are both fast, sturdy and pack considerable firepower.

Dude buy Sparky or Firebrand. Both the best mechs of their chassis line.

But wait for Hero mech sales, seriously.
