I can tell you this Bobf,

I would play till I hit the top, then take a break, come back the next day and BAM some one had moved me down. So I'd grind out some more games, cursing under my breath every 600 damage 2 kill match that was a waist of my time.

Then you'd have that magic match (or series, at times). Damage is north of 1000, 3 or better kills. God is smiling on you. Hit the refresh in 15 minutes and you're back in. So exhausted, you'd go have dinner, take your wife shopping, whatever, knowing that inevitably, some one else was playing and climbing as you did.

Even now I'm at work, hitting the refresh button every half hour, obsessing. Knowing I promised my wife Cheesecake Factory tonight. Wondering how sick I'll have to fake being. Knowing that some one else will be at home, watching their score inch closer and closer....

I played Friday night into Saturday morning, when I was just too drunk to play anymore. I haven't played since then. I was at 20 in my Orion K when I quit. It was at 64 last time I looked today. I thought the tourney would be over at 10 am PST because I didn't pay attention. Now I'm gonna have to see where I can get it before the tourney actually ends.

The last tournament had more incentive to participate even if you didn't hit the leaderboard and scored 130 point you made c-bill. Gave people a reason to continue to work as a team. This Tournament was a waste of time from the time it was suggested and implemented and to its finally. I can bet if you look back at the other tournament a lot the same people are taking top prize. (syncdroppers and a like) I did notice when I played opposite these Top names the games were stomp fests and found myself in 10 to 15 game loosing streaks while dishing out 700 damage and getting one or two kills. More then once I seen top players in same group. To me this entire Tournament was an eye opener for me. why even have the tournaments, might as well give prizes to the same people every month and not even promote a tournament. I didn't appreciate being a group of peoples point farm for a weekend. Thank you for a most unpleasant weekend of MechWarrior. Will be glad when this is over and I can go back to a decent grouping again.

This is a really good point. The 10 million c-bill got me hooked last tournament, and once I got all of the reward, I stayed to try my hand at climbing the top ten IS Mediums. It was frustrating once I hit 5-6, because the level of game I'd need to achieve to climb higher was ridiculous. Something like 4-5 kills minimum, the rest of the assists picked up, 800+ damage, etc.

I have a friend who plays irregularly, usually when a special event comes up or we get a group together. He struggled and was only able to pull in 2-3 of the 500k cbill rewards with his Atlai and Jenners. It frustrated him so much to get good game after good game, only for his team to fall apart, denying him a reward. He's a good player, but gets shafted with bad matches way too often.

He bought the 45% off Stormcrows at my recommendation and is posting really good games. 700-850 damage, multi-kill games. He just didn't care to mess with the tournament however because it's a waste of time to get a couple bucks (or less) of MC if you make the top ten. That's IF you can even make it up there, and stay.

If another of these tournaments comes up without a reconfigured scoring metric, I'm passing on it. It will take c-bill rewards to bring me back.

The tournament was very fun with a lot of good players out. Not many steamrolls in fact most of the matches were very close. Agree they should have had the cBill rewards like previously.

That said... I'd have a huge score if you didn't have to win for it to apply. Not that I mind but damn... some of the matches you work and work and it's just not enough... gotta carry harder I guess

UPDATE: The tournament will end in about 10 hours!!! For those of you who still have time, try and win if you think you've got a chance! You might make it!

I had one match where someone was going around killing off his entire team one by one. I'm pretty sure team kills don't give you points, but I don't know if he knew that.

Yeah, only counting victories really sucks. I had a few 800-900 damage matches that got thrown out because my derp derp potato teammates. It really sucks.

Same here only I can appreciate that you have to not only game the system but still play so your team wins. If they include losses then it's even more self-centered.

An easy fix and should have been done before the Tournament is Make it Most Damage Kills for 20 points not just a kill for 20 points, this would have trumped the KSing that takes place in these Tournaments.

I never play these tournaments.

I played the last one - the one that gave you 10M c-bills - and ended up just slightly off the scoreboard for Clan Assaults. One of the worst experiences I've ever had in MWO.

So yeah, I never play these tournaments. They bring out the absolute worst in players and encourage gaming the system more than doing well. It's a team game and the tournaments should encourage teamplay, not discourage it by giving the highest scores to the most selfish players and forcing everyone to use solo queue (which is, pretty much by definition, the place where nobody plays like a team).

Heh, at least 1441 Stormcrows opted in. (deliberately scored 31 :P )

I starting to believe the ELO is something that can be altered by the gamemasters at pgi and for the course of the weekend they have been trolling me for some reason. There's noway I should be playing with the likes of proton and odwalla on a regular basis. I've seen and the more times this weekend than i have over the last 6 months. In short this weekend has been long waits in searching, not fun at all; just a shite grind against the odds.

Yep. This should be self evident. PGI needs to change it to Most Damage Dealt for 20, all others including killing blow as assists.

It would have been totally awesome to get 10 million c-bills like the last tournament I didn't have time to participate in.

PGI, give away ridiculous amounts of c-bills every time, it'd be awesome, thanks.

Ya my best 2 games I had were losses, and 1 was for a lone spider that did 0 damage and capped all game, apparently just to pi$$ me off lol.
It is really disheartening to have epic games not count...

The amount of "Most Damage Kills" without "Killing Blow" is too damn high!

Guess it went alright. When I started with the griffon was at 147th. Right now I am 19th.

Mostly cause I could play today. Trying this on saturday is rough. And sunday is crazy.

I gave up on the tournament early on Saturday and ended up enjoying my gameplay a lot more for the rest of the weekend. I felt a lot of frustration in a lack of progress due to the win-or-zilch restriction, and there was more abuse than usual in chat which is always charming.

I guess with the last tourney I felt there was a goal that was achievable for me by flat out, grindy, persistence. This one didn’t really have that for a player of my skill level.

Having the tourney coincide with the addition of the reward mechs (and to a lesser extent the Stormcrow) made things more volatile than usual in the PUG queue. There were a lot of folks who were still figuring out their new mechs, and while on a normal day that’s not a worry, with the requirements of the tournament it could be another source of frustration.

But luckily I figured this out early on, shut down the tournaments tab in my browser and played for fun from there on out.

I read that in William Shatners voice. Well played Tiberius, well played indeed.

The Kirk that could remember his lines or the Kirk that kept forgetting his lines and had those pauses that he is so frequently impersonated with?
