There is no such thing as kill stealing, only kill securing.

Maybe a penalty for kills that are done while the most-damage-dealer is not near death might be a good idea? Doubled if the killer has not dealt damage the whole time but just in the last seconds?

I find it offensive that people kill the guy I'm trying to kill ste-- I mean secure. I mean, I'm just there trying to take all of the lovely lovely c-bills making sure he doesn't score a lucky kill shot.

Yeah, I would like to see kills knocked down to 15 and the deduction for friendly fire tripled.

Friendly fire has gotten ridiculous when finishing off mechs. I feel sorry for the lights who are harassing and in close. At least triple the FF penalty.

Or the kill credit is dealt to whoever dealt the most damage to the mech.......

If they were the only ones with the ability to aim, there wouldn't be a kill to steal.

I was playing a match earlier today on Tourmaline, and I got the upper hand on an isolated Storm Crow in my Nova, which is pretty rare. He makes a run for it and I pursue, slowly taking him apart. One side torso, then the opposite arm, and after a while I get his leg. Lo and behold, as I'm waiting for my lazors to cool down, a friendly Summoner swoops in, having followed us, and grabs the kill.

Now, that Summoner did absolutely nothing to earn that kill. The Storm Crow was basically disarmed at that point. I did all the work, he just got a single alpha strike while I was cooling down.

On the other hand, I was playing a match where I was pretty sure we would lose, and I got tired of teammates playing badly against LRM boats, so I leave my unit and run off. Against all odds, a Spider pilot (Lord Auriel) is able to slowly take down one mech after the other, untill the score is 10-9. I rush to help him and our third teammate against the two remaining mechs. Finally, there's 3 of us and 1 of them. A CN9-AH with no ammo. At that point, I still have all my weapons. Lord Auriel is at 29% health and barely alive. I could just have gone in and stolen the CN9-AH kill, but to be honest, I did very little towards earning the victory, while the Spider pilot had 5 kills already, so it would have been a douche move to just go in and face hug the Centurion for a cheap kill. So I hang back, watch the Spider get its 6th kill of the match and tell him "GJ".

Killing stealing is only for people placing in the tourney. Everyone else is clearly bad at it.

Its not that simple. The kill goes to the person who most efficiently killed the mech. Damage is a poor metric.

I never intentionally kill steal and feel intensely bad when I do it, apologising profusely. This weekend was even worse, getting a higher than normal number of lucky first/final shots (admittedly AC/20 ones) with kill stealing being even more painful to people fighting for points

I see an ennemy mech, I shoot him. No matter how badly he is damaged and no matter how good are my allies. (Unless they asked for the duel and the ally insulted me. I don't help guys insulting me. Unless it's placing me in danger. )
An ennemy still alive is still laser pointed at, the lesser, the better.

(I know it is not the way of the Clan. But Zellbrigen is for the CW.
But I know it can be frustating... But it isn't a one vs one

Sometimes it's kill stealing, sometimes is life saving. I prefer that you get the kill and I continue to fight than you left me just because you don't want to steal kill from me. And next second I'm dead.
