I'd like to see posts from the people who participated.

1. Where did you place?

2. What loadouts were most effective?

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?

I'd love to hear from the crazy pilots that took out Locusts and Vindicators and still managed to put up some decent scores.

For me it was:
1. First in Awesomes, 23rd in Thunderbots, and waaaaay down the line in Warhawks

2. I used all the Awesome variants, but my only "scoring" matches came from the PB and 8R. PB was a combo of Pulse lasers and LRMs, 8R was mostly LRM's with some lasers.

3. I played a few hours each day, playing the most time on Sunday. It took longer to place than it did to stay. I got to second on Sunday, and it took probably 2 hours to unseat BlackhawkSC, who put up a great score.

4. One match the last red guy disco'd out of frustration. We were running around the maps looking for the free kill, with Orcrist and myself both needed the kill badly. I was lucky enough to find it first, but it was Raven wedged into a corner that for some reason wasn't registering my pulse laser hits. Of course now he was on the radar and the team was closing in so in frustration, I dropped an arty on him. Well, just after I did, Orcrist drops off the ledge to shoot him and the arty kills them both. It was hilarious. Sorry Orcrist, you deserved better :)

5. Shout out to Zolomek, who although he placed lower than me, killed me in 4 out of the 5 matches we dropped against each other. You suck, I hate/love you man. Also so Mensch in a few rounds, but never got to go head to head because of the battle, although he performed well each time I saw him. And waking up Monday to see Blacke on the boards at 5 (he made it to 2) freaked me out. We only fought once this tourney (although he is a guild mate) and in that round, my team won, but we never went head to head.

So that's my experience, what was yours? And please, no butthurt "I didn't compete because blah blah blah". This thread is for the people that tried and are proud of where they placed, where ever it was. I was just as happy the first time I broke 50 as I am of being top in this round, so where ever you landed, tell us about it below.

I placed 23 in quickdraws with a score of 1,659.

Played mostly friday and saturday and didn't had the time to play much on sunday. I had one or two outstanding match but many many stomps.

Key seemed to be that you need a very hard push but your team have to help or you'll go down too fast. "Kill stealing" didn't work for me mostly because of landing in the wrong corner of the map.

I used mostly two loadouts, starting with a 2xPPC/2MLs and a laser boat, both with mediocre success. when both of them where dead and even my IV-4 was still in a game I used my last quickie, 4xML and 3x ASRM4 and tell you what, had a blast.

So that brawler got me up the ranks, something I didn't expect. Have to say I tried to use some airstrikes but that felt lame so I stopped that. In the end it was not actually fighting, it was farming. You wait for that one match where everything comes together, good teammates, good enemy, good map and good positioning. And of course a good bit of luck. Maybe that's why I stopped playing after a while.

1. Where did you place?

15th on Blackjack and on Hunchback, Shadowhawk, Thunderbolt about 20th.

I honestly had almost all the time 170-185 point games. But even with 5 kills, 4 assists and 623 damage it was only around 200 points. The best round in kills i had was with 7 kills, but that gave me only around 210 points too. So i wonder how people got 2100-2400 points with ten matches.

2. What loadouts were most effective?

Ballistics for kills, LRMs for assists and damage.

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?

Startet on Saturday night as i had two days of frustrating new pc problems. But then non stop until Monday. Had to sleep here and there, but didn´t bother to shave or eat healthy. ^^
How many matches? I stopped counting, but i guess i made about 10million credits including the use of UAV and artillery every match.

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?

More than once i bumped over something and lost 4-10% armor. The wierdest thing though happened on HPG. Jumped onto the middle platform roof, fired my UAV. Suddenly my teammate from directly below me warped onto me and we both startet to loose armor. My legs and his head. Well, that must be the first real Death from above kill....he died and i got stuck on his corpse.

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?

I have no rivals. But playing every round against the top5 of the tournament and the so called high skillers made me wonder about my Elo.
Someone explain please. :x

P.s. i noticed that SRM builds were very effective in damage and kill farming. Normally my Shadowhawk wields them too. That is why Odwella placed first with Griffins and Shadowhawks.

Trying to do poorly for the most part on purpose to see population numbers.

Chassis Score Rank

Atlas 254 894 Ran my S maybe 4 times.
Banshee 752 86 Spent more time in stock banshees than any other during this.
Highlander 298 127 Probably 6 matches
Jenner 94 439 1 match
Locust 30 277 1 match
MadDog 240 292 Couple matches
Raven 94 513 1 match
Shadowhawk 250 304 2 matches
Spider 140 383 1 match
Stalker 291 291 2 matches
Trebuchet 56 155 1 match

Ran a couple more, but the Commando, KitFox, Adder and maybe one or two more didn't show up in my rankings.

I can't speak for the top guy in Warhawks, but I got #14 using 4xLRM15, 4xERML, TAG, CAP, and 11 tons of ammo. In my best matches, I would run out of ammo with a few minutes left in the game and then proceed to get a few more kills/assists with the lasers.

My best game of the tournament was Conquest on Mining Collective, with 5 kills, 4 assists, and 1346 damage. I could have gotten 2 more kills that game if I'd been positioned better. I had maybe 2 other 1000+ damage games out of my 10.

1. Where did you place?
I placed 23rd in Centurions with 1690 points

2. What loadouts were most effective?
I used my CN9-AL with a pair of ERLLs and a pair of MLs for half my matches, and my shiny new CN9-AH with a Gauss and 2x SRM4s. Staying at a distance, using shield arm to block return fire, and peppering everyone that popped their heads up.

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?
I probably played somewhere between 30-50 matches before I got tired of it.

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?
I always find it hilarious when light pilots think they can dodge my Gauss shots and more often than not they end up legged.

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?
I don't remember getting matched against any other top 15 Cents, but I never really pay attention to enemy names unless it's people like JagerXIII or Errodien or other big names.

1. Where did you place?

2nd on the Atlas board.

2. What loadouts were most effective?

Just used one loadout: AC20; 4 SRM4; 4 ML on the AS7-S

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?

A bucket load of time and matches. Probably the both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, but took loads of breaks in between matches.

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?

Nothing really unusual happened actually? And face hugging dire wolves.

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?

Pretty much got whacked by Kh0rn.

1. Where did you place?

5th in Quickdraws, 5th in Wolverines

Quote

2. What loadouts were most effective?

Laservomit, because that is the meta.

Quote

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?

Too many matches and too many hours.

I spent most of the time on Sunday watching football instead of playing this game. No reason to get frustrated (I played a few games, and realized I wouldn't be able to get the scores I needed, so I slept on it).

Quote

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?

I died to a Locust. When you're in a Quickdraw and decide not to put the LL on the arms, the Locust has power over you when it chooses to brawl... wisely.

I gave credit to the Locust pilot after seeing him again in another drop.

I forget if he's on the Locust leaderboard (he might have been at one time).

Quote

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?

Yes, but there aren't that many that I've seen in the brackets I participated in (did see chimerathon, danattacker, AidenPrydeX, BlackDrakon to drop a few names).

I did OK for the most part, except in some of the matches where I was still debating builds in the Wolverine mid-tourney... and just ended saying "eff this" and just went with what I knew what was working. I was doing horribly in the 7K build I had (needed to redo it due to ghost heat and LRMs).

While I did this for the rewards... I wouldn't want to do this again, even though I know I will torture myself intentionally to do it again. For many people, these tournies are soul crushing. If an MWO break isn't in my future, then it'll be a ragequit somewhere along the line.

1. Where did you place?
3rd in Wolverines. Picked it because I like the feel of the mech, it's looks, and medium brawling.

2. What loadouts were most effective?
I started with a pretty normal loadout. 3 Medlasers, 3 srm6+artemis and a STD 260. It's nice like that but I soon realised that high risk-high reward is the way to go, and it's also a hot mech when brawling like that. You just can't find the weight or slots for heatsinks like you can in clan mechs.
I stripped the arm medium lasers to mount more srm ammo and use an xl 320 because I had one in my Cicida (no cbills to get the 300 that I wanted). The mech overheats if you use the 3 mediums all the time with srms, and the damage come from the srm's and speed anyway.
7K Build I used
I saw one of the other top ten guys (vandalhooch i think) using a similar build but with 2 mg's in the arm. 6R I think, I wanted to give that a try but didn't get a chance to buy the mech etc.

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?
A lot. On saturday after about 20 matches I think, I was at about 6th with around 1900 points, sunday and monday were spent trying to get the perfect games.

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?
Nothing really. I dont think mwo is very 'funny' ^^

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?
I saw a couple of them a few times. ELO was obvious because I only saw 2 of the players regularly, didn't have time/concentrating too much to see their builds.

I used every Orion Variant I had and my Protector is running Kerensky's build minus the artemis on the SRM6 and a regular PPC instead of a Snub Nose PPC.

4x LL + 2x SSRM2
2x LRM15 + 2x LRM10 + 2x ML
2x ERLL + 2x AC/5 + 2x SRM6
1x AC/20 + 3x ML + 3x SSRM2

and above mentioned Kerensky build 1x Gaus + 1x PPC + 2x ML + 1x SRM6

My best mactes were in my VA and M with my V being close (LRM build, AC/20 build, and AC/5 build). My K didn't get as much damage consistantly because 4x LL was rough some maps (grouped 2 left 2 right for mouse button 1 and 2). Kerensky was limited success mostly because it's a nostalgic build and for fun. But I ran all of them regardless.

#1 managed 10th in Commando's (which was my objective!)
#2 I started with mostly medium lasers on the 1B, but moved to the 1D with 1SRM2+1SRM4+2MLs.
#3 played about 50-60 matches total, moslty friday night and saturday night. A few late sunday to make sure 10th place was secure.
#4 The strangest thing that happened to me was on Terra Therma, I legged a Locust and it fired lasers till it suicided, miliseconds before it would have been killed, 1 minute later I legged a fellow leaderboard Commando, he decided to fire lasers till he suicided aswell... right before I would have killed him also. I laughed because we lost to cap anyway but I would have been a bit upset had we won.

#5 I played with alot of the other Commando leaders mostly on the same team though. plenty of the top 10 guys had there terrible matches I must say, including myself ofcourse. We just tend to have more good games than others further down the list / played more.

1. Where did you place?
1st Commando 2056

2. What loadouts were most effective?
ERLL 2 mediums ERLL for assists. Medium lasers cause nothing else fits. Started using the Death's Knell, did ok, but got tired of slow reverse speed so I bought a Com1B. Originally used uav and arty strike. Switched it up to coolant flush and arty strike later. UAV is useful for winning, but I needed the damage increase from coolant flush more.

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?
I was actually fairly busy this weekend. My birthday happened and family was visiting me so I went to multiple parties and whatnot. Still probably spent at least 5 hours a day on it. I played a lot regardless.

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?
Was on caustic early in the match. Zipping around on the top edge of the crater shooting at peeking mechs. Nobody was hitting me. Suddenly, AC20 to the cockpit, dead. My armor was completely untouched.

Got stuck on who knows what in River City night. I was in between buildings and I could move away from the spot for a second before it warped me back. So for like that second I was away from the building I could shoot enemies and they tried to shoot me back but by then I warped back to the stuck spot and they couldn't hit me My team lost horribly and eventually a jenner came up to kill me. Warping around fighting the jenner I managed to leg him but he finished me off. I thought it was funny anyways.

Almost any time a team mate kills me is hilarious to me.

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?
I only remember seeing like 3 Commandos my entire time playing, none of which were close to my rank on the scoreboard. One of the commandos I saw multiple times, Guard Moribund (rank 7) did pretty well from what I recall.

I actually remember seeing Banderon (Rank 3) once, but he was playing an Ember. It was one of the last games of the tournament and once I spotted him I followed him around for quite a while and completely stripped his leg armor. He didn't turn around to shoot or anything. Had to bug out when his team mates came, but later on I got to witness his legged mech doll get wrecked by my team mates. Wasn't in time to make it there personally.

Even though Errodien didn't pilot Commandos I consider him a rival of sorts. I mean we're all competing against eachother effectively. Sunday night, I had two ridiculously good games that Errodien crushed my soul in. Both of them I was last man standing vs multiple enemies. I kill all of them but Errodien in his Spider 5D. The last one I remember he was legged and his other leg was one shot away from gone, not sure if I did that or not. He backed himself into a crevice and put his remaining leg behind him. I having lost all my armor killing his team mates and really being unaware of his situation because ECM is OP, proceed to run back and forth across his view trying to kill him. After a couple of times of that, I die. 6+ kills 800+ dmg both times. I'm pretty sure I fed Errodien some of his top 10 wins there. Not nearly as good as what I would have got had I won, but yeah. I just don't fare well vs Errodien, he's real careful about not taking damage. Just barely exposes himself to shoot. A lot less likely to run into brawl range and get shot up. A lot more patient then me with that sortof thing. Means I pretty much lose vs him the majority of the time.

1.) 6th in Kitfoxes

2.) I bounced around on Monday with many builds, but the most effective was:

3xML, ECM, UAC5+3 tons ammo, 1xJJ
Special mention: 2xLL, ECM, 2xMG+ 1 ton ammo, 3xDHS, 2xJJ

3.) I barely played Friday, maybe 8 matches. I didn't play Saturday. I played a lot on Sunday and Monday. Maybe 50-70 games total? Almost all progress was made Sunday. I made almost no progress Monday. It got really bad.

4.) Monday was horrible, and kill steals were a serious problem the entire tournament. The kitfox has no front loaded damage options, so I'd brawl out with opponents, nearly killing them, only to lose the kill to someone with IS ballistics.

The funniest thing? I watched 3 team mates die to a single artillery strike at the end of a match because 2 team mates ran up the ramp on Terra Therma, stopped, and held the team in place. No one could move, and several players started yelling on chat to move up immediately. The calls were not heeded, and most of the team got wrecked. A real wakeup call to ramp sitters.

5.) I played with and against the occasional leaderboard Kitfox. I saw at least 3-4 of the top ten over the weekend. I'd say the match was determined beforehand by the teams more than us. That, and Kitfoxes don't make a habit of going after mechs in the middle of the enemy deathball. They mostly peck at the outside. Kitfoxes also don't push and pull a lot of weight, no matter how well you play them. I managed to hold several matches together with ECM and the occasional kill streak however. It's pretty clear by the low score cap that Kitfoxes are very limited with their combat abilities.

#1 : First in summoners.

#2 : 4xERML+UAC10+SSRM6 (i know it lacks enough punch... but its just me. can not work with a non balanced build)

#3 : dont remember. quite a lot. and it was very unhealthy. The rivalry and chat-fights were through the roof.!

#4 : I was in a match where the result was 10-10. I was a stick (with below 20% health) with only one SSRM6 with 3 volleys left and a DDC with LRMs. The enemy had a gauss jagger with cherry red RT and a healthy wolverine with SRMs.
The map was HPG. The enemy was in the basement and we were waiting on the northern exit. 40 seconds to the end, The WVR cam out from another exit and shot an SRM volley at me. I survived and decided to jump down and have a go on the gauss jagger, as i was sure that the WVR would finally get me. I charged the basement. the gauss jagger MISSED his shot. He was done with 1 SSRM volley. I got out and a cat and mouse play started between me and WVR. untill i realized that the DDC was showering him with LRMs. I decided a final go on him, with both of my legs cherry red, i Jumped to maximum distance and let loose my last SSRM6 volley as a last effort because the hard landing would have killed me.
The last volley killed the open WVR before i landed and the i realized the clock was 00:00 right at the 15 minute mark.
B) .

#5 : I remember dropping with or against "Wine O" quite a number of times. A very skilled summoner pilot. And against monsters like: Kh0rn, Colonel ONeill, eclisse, Carl Avery, Urdnot Mau, Budor, Coburn, FearnotDeath, Ugyat, Odawalla, Cyborx, Mister D, Tahribator, Writhen, Arresye, EL Bandito and etc... countless times. They were always there to make sure no body gets a high score.!

1. 18th ShadowHawk

2. I used SHD-2H with LBX, 2x MGs and 3x SRM4 and the SHD-2K 3x LRM10 3x MLAS when I was bored of LRM boats and I wanted to share my frustration.

3. too much time and patience

4-5. these tournaments are very frustrating because I not played against my everyday ELO "rivals" but with more effective players, due points formula team play was gone, LRM, ARTILLERY and Kills stolen practice were super used... I get Philanthropist achievement in a match and in another I have do over 1000 dmg with only a kill..... Then I scored below my usual, is indicative that I lost 0.02 in K/D ratio.

I was actually fairly busy this weekend. My birthday happened and family was visiting me so I went to multiple parties and whatnot. Still probably spent at least 5 hours a day on it. I played a lot regardless.

This is the most interesting figure out of all the rest. Because many people play all weekend, with upwards of up to 200-250+ games. I care less about what place you got and more about how long it took you to get there. I mean, if you played ~20+ hours over the weekend in solo queue for X place, was it worth the effort put into it?

This is actually the reason why I stopped. Playing two evenings in quickies *was* fun but after a while it turned into a grind and I got stomped so hard that I couldn't get myself to tryhard more on sunday.
Have to say, I played more concentrated than usual and indeed played "better" than normal (ok, after some beer not so much anymore :D ) but at the end it was more work than fun.

Never played for the MC but only to see how far up I could come so I just stopped. I saw where I could be and that was enough for me.
